As many know, I'm against this war and quite
frankly think it's George W. Bush's new addiction
to power that has placed us in this place. That said,
my parents are quite conservative and have always
been hawks - self proclaimed and proud of it.
We don't dicuss politics any more, fouls family
events and life it too short to mess with those you
love. My mother is a true patriot, state president
and national representitive on many occasions for
the D.A.R. and public speaker about our flag -
expert on flag handling, geneaologist for families
tracing their roots to OUR revolution and a proud
American.
Yesterday, in a casual phone call about my nephew's
birthday party, she asked me what she could do to
help the democratic party defeat George W. Bush.
Mom is and always has been registered republican but
she would be quick to add, does not always vote a
straight ticket.
Mom supports the troops, she and the other church
ladies are packaging things to send to them. she prays
everyday for their safety and safe return. She hates
George W. Bush and thinks he's crazy. She says she
sees addiction in his demeanor and an arrogance
that is very scary and dangerous. She feels he has made a huge
mistake in engaging in this military action, aka"war",
and that this is a no win situation - except possibly for
George Bush and his friends. I think I said something like,
"Mom? Is this you?" Also of note is the fact
that my mother has always been suspect of the UN. At
one time her motto was "Get the U.S. out of the UN".
Mom says all the women at church are feeling this
way when they gather to package things for the soldiers.
I, like my mother, support the troups. The signs in
my yard read " Support our Troops" "Pray for Peace".
My mother is not full of fear or paranoid-she is
rational and votes. I'm hoping there is a huge undercurrent
of people like my mother who will quietly insist that
our government protect it's people, including the soldiers
we have placed in harm's way. Looking forward to 2004
and for the very first time in my life, working for the same
candidate as my Mom.
In the meantime, I will pray for an Iraqi surrender and
a quick one.
