This is crazy! My parents went to Epcot this last weekend. They had just walked into the park and were heading towards The Land when my dad caught sight of a man sitting on a bench with two Disney Security Guards by him and his wife yelling frantically in a foreign language.
Now, my mom rarely pays attention to people yelling (probably deaf from listening to us for all those years!), but my dad saw that something wasn't right and told my mom they needed to stop. (She is an RN and worked in the emergency room for years, so she has a pretty good grip on medical emergencies)
Turns out that this guy is unconcious and not breathing. The security guys are standing there unsure of what to do. My dad starts talking to the wife asking if her husband has complained of chest pains. Luckily for everyone, she knew enough broken English to explain that her husband has high blood pressure, but he had taken his medication that morning.
My dad turned around to tell my mom what the wife had said and was shocked to see that Mom had pulled the guy onto the ground and was punching his chest.
As Dad finished telling Mom about the high blood pressure, she told him that the guy had a pulse and was breathing now. She explained to the wife that the husband's medication dosage was probably too high and that (coupled with all of the walking and heat) probably triggered it. She hit his chest to "jump start" the heart into working again.
Right about now, the paramedics finally show up. (Keep in mind that the security guys were here the whole time and never did anything) They go over to the husband and start working on him.
Apparently, my mom looked at my dad and said, "Let's get out of here" and they just walked away and went on with their Disney Day!! (Dad has made a few jokes about the guy waking up the next morning wondering why his chest hurts!)
I can't believe that my mom saved a guy's life and just walked away! How cool is that?!
Anyway, I really wanted to tell someone at Disney what a wonderful thing that my mom did - not for the glory or for a reward, but for a thank you. They would have had a dead guy on their hands if my mom hadn't happened to be there and hadn't happened to be a qualified nurse. I also wanted them to know that their security department better work on their emergency training a bit. There's no excuse for standing there watching a guy die.
What do you all think? Should I tell their story to someone or am I just overreacting because it's my mom?

but I would expect every security person to be able to check for a pulse and begin basic CPR in an emergency. Security isn't just about bad guys.
