My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

I did it!! :cool1:

I'm going to cut and paste here because I've written the same thing in about 5 different places and I'm getting tired and need a shower! :rotfl:

I just finished my 5K and am sitting here extremely sweaty! :rolleyes1

As most of you know, before today, my longest distance was barely 2 miles so running 3.1 was a big stretch for me. The most total running time I'd had during a workout was 9 minutes (if you add up all of my intervals) and I'm pretty sure I doubled that today. :scared1: It does give me confidence that I can move on to week 4 of C25K without any problems. :thumbsup2

I had decided to go with a 1:1 ratio throughout the 5K (1 minute of running/1 minute of walking). I did include my warm up in my 5K time because I knew I couldn't maintain a 1:1 ratio throughout the entire distance. The first mile was great. Lots of energy and feeling good. The second mile was the hardest. I started feeling tired from probably going too hard in the first mile. The third mile wasn't too bad because I slowed my pace a little and knew I was almost done. I even revved it up for the final couple of minutes. I was excited and surprised that I was able to continue with the run intervals until the very end. I did have to add in a few extra walks, but I'm really happy with how I did. :goodvibes

I kept all of my walks above a 3.5 pace, which is really good for me especially since most of my runs were at about 4.3. :banana:

So..........Drum roll, please!

My time was 48:32. I'm pretty happy with that. I set a goal and I followed through. My time can only get faster, right? ;)

Such a pretty bouquet!! So sweet of your hubby to take care of you like that! :thumbsup2 Anxious to hear how your 5K went today, Carissa!

I thought it was very cool that the ship set it up so that the guys (and gals) could send flowers back home. :thumbsup2

You did super-duper, sweetie- or is that sweaty?? :lmao: J/K. Huge congrats! Get your shower, and revel in a job well done!!! :banana:

BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS from CHUCK, CARISSA!!! Just beautiful!!! :love:

:woohoo:CONGRATULATIONS on your 5K!!!!:woohoo:

Seriously, Carissa, that is quite the accomplishment and it is so empowering, isn't it!!! YOU DID IT!!! :cheer2:

Were the kiddos cheering you on? AND absolutely, your time will get better and better!!! ::yes::

:dance3::cheer2::banana::dance3::cheer2::banana:

Great job! Knew you could do it! FYI I still do run/walk intervals when I work out. For me it makes the whole running thing much more pleasant. The Marathoning for Mortals book and the Jeff Galloway theory talk a lot about completing long events with run/walk intervals. I can run for a whole 3.1 miles, but I rarely do. I usually walk at least 30-60 seconds every mile. I just tell you this because as you get further in training you'll know it's OK to stop and walk sometimes. (Unless your goal is to run the whole way.) Just figure out what is best for you.:thumbsup2

Oh and the person that posted that incredible 10K time under you on the virtual race thread races in a chair so her times are always a lot faster than those of us blessed to use our legs:)

They weren't cheering me on. I made sure they were occupied before I started so that I wouldn't have to deal with any squabbles! :thumbsup2

Congratulations Carissa!!! :banana::banana:

Thanks Amy!

Thanks for letting me know about that person's time. I edited my post. :thumbsup2

I've read Marathoning for Marathons recently. I'm sure I will always be a run/walk kind of person since I love walking so much. I do want to be able to run 5K without walking so I will probably aim for that.

Congratulations, Carissa! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Thanks Michelle! :)

GREAT JOB CARISSA!!! You did AWESOME! :cheer2: I think you should be VERY proud of yourself today, really. :goodvibes

The flowers are beautiful! :)

Thanks! You did awesome too! Glad you were able to get out there and run. :goodvibes

:goodvibes

I just found your PTR this evening. I myself am trying to get through the couch to 5K :scared1: I"m overweight, out of shape and I am lazy. However, I am working towards my goal of either the half in January 2011 or the princess half in March 2011.

I'm so thankful to have found your PTR, it's really nice to see that other people have set similar goals.

:welcome: Raecheal! Glad to have you join us. Good luck on starting the program. You can do it! Feel free to stop in here and share your progress. Everyone will help root you on. :thumbsup2

I"m overweight, out of shape and I am lazy.

You have just described me!

Between the knee surgery and this long crazy winter, I have not been able to get out and walk, so I have packed on the poundage. :eek: There's no way I could run, but as soon as we get a pretty day, I am out of here! I can't get motivated to walk indoors, and I don't have a treadmill. I do well when I can walk outside and with a friend, so we're just talking and enjoying the walk. I hope to lose a good chunk of this winter weight before our summer trip.

Congratulations, Carissa, on your determination! I applaud your efforts and only wish I could be as motivated. The older you get, the harder it gets. If I only lived by Disney World, though, I would walk all the time. I would go to World Showcase or over to the trails at Animal Kingdom on a regular basis. ::yes::

Thanks MeMom! I much prefer to get outside to walk and I really miss it. I hope the weather improves for you soon so you can get back out there! :goodvibes

Thanks. It felt sooooo great to get out there. I just love running, even when it's not easy.

Now, I need you to go reply to my email..... :teeth: :shamrock:

:thumbsup2

Way to Go Carissa! I bet it feels so good to accomplish a goal like that! :banana::banana:
