:welcome: Glad you came over! Good for you for starting to get out there and walk! I definitely think this program is easier if you take a step between the couch potato stage and the running so walking a bit first is a good way to start (not saying you were a couch potato, but just saying that it's good that you've got two weeks of walking under your belt). :thumbsup2

And as almost every person who has ever done the C25K program has said, "If I can do it, anyone can!" ;)

DEFINITELY- I am/was a couch potato, trying to grow out of it. I am actually excited and it is exciting to talk to people who are doing it!!!!!

Just finished day 1 of week 5 today. This week there is a different routine for each day. Day 1 is 3 intervals of 5 minute jogs with a 3 minute walk placed in between each run. I found this to be a bit easier than last week's intervals. I had more recoup time between the runs and only 3 run intervals instead of 4.

I also listened to a fun playlist which helped. And I finally put something up on my stair railing so I didn't have to stare at nothingness. Here is what was my focal point today:

001-8.jpg

That picture on top is really what got me through. On all of my previous runs before today, I would stare at the wall and try to zone out. But, it was difficult to do. It was like my mind had nothing to feed on. The picture of the path through the woods was exactly what I needed. I could totally imagine myself running on that trail. It was awesome. :thumbsup2

Every once in a while, when the going got tough, I'd look at those words on the top and make myself believe them. I CAN, I WILL, I AM ABLE!!

And just to keep things interesting, I'd peak down at the picture of Wes and Tom and imagine that's what their faces looked like as I ran by. :rolleyes1

Running is feeling better. No pains in my body anywhere (well, besides my extremely sore upper/inner/back thighs from all of the lunges I did yesterday) and my form is starting to feel more natural. I always felt awkward in the past when I would try to run. That's a big part of why I didn't start this program years ago when I first heard about it. I was embarrassed to have others see me running outside and I didn't have a treadmill. By the time Chuck gets home, I know I will have the confidence to run with all of the other crazies out there. :cool1:

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

My totals for today:

Speed: 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jogs/3.3 - 3.5 for brisk walks, 3.5 cool down
Duration: 32 minutes
Distance: 2 miles

DEFINITELY- I am/was a couch potato, trying to grow out of it. I am actually excited and it is exciting to talk to people who are doing it!!!!!

I love to see other people excited about making changes in their lives. :thumbsup2 Feel free to check in often with your progress!

Way to go!!! You look great! Isn't it amazing? I finished week 5 on Sunday and did the 20 minute run. It was not near as bad as I had thought it was going to be. Pretty soon we will both be running 5k's like it's nothing. (Okay maybe not nothing. But we'll be doing it!) :rotfl2:

:cheer2:Awesome job Carissa! It's such a great feeling when running begins to feel right! I love your motivation too! I actually have a trail kind of like that I do my runs on, but not this month. We still have all the snow all over the trails so I'm stuck on the treadmill too. Keep chugging!

LOVE the pix you chose! If they are motivating, then YES, keep them up for every workout!

I am getting excited to start my C25K in a couple of months!!! All because of you!!!

Thanks! Glad to know you made it through and it wasn't too bad. I recently posted on Facebook about how I wasn't looking forward to that 20 minute run and my brother (who did the program last year) said, "Yeah, that 20 minutes nearly killed me." :rotfl: I was like - gee thanks for the motivation! ;)

I wish we still lived at Fort Meade. There was a great trail to run on. I didn't even need to drive anywhere. There really isn't anywhere for me to run around our house so I'll always have to drive if I want to run outside. I'll probably do my short runs on the treadmill and then get to the park for my long runs.

Love the picture, that's fabulous!

It's funny how much it helped me mentally.

Great Job Carissa! I love the path through the woods...with all the snow here it's nice to imagine the woods looking like that again!

I'm doing well...the last two weeks has been tough with my birthday, the kids off school, etc. The workouts have been harder to fit in and I was discouraged. But...I weighed in today and have lost 6 more pounds! YAY!! That's a total of 15 since January 2nd!! I'm back to the workouts today and ready to tackle the next 15!

Can I come play? :goodvibes
I love your motivators! :thumbsup2

Hello Carrie! :cool1: Glad you stopped by.

That is so awesome Missy! Watching the scale move and seeing the changes in your body are the biggest motivators out there - for me anyway!

That wooded path is so pretty! That's great it is helpful to you. Keep up the great work this week, you can do it! :cool1:

Whoooo hoooo Carissa!!! Way to go girl! You are doing awesome, and look great!:goodvibes

You are a big motivator for me!!! I need to start doing this like yesterday. No excuses.;)

Of course, I think my man is very tough and manly and protective!!

(Figured I should put that in there in case Chuck reads this. Love ya, hon!)

Does he visit us over here on the DIS? Can you imagine what his buddies must think of the tough and manly man coming to read about Mickey Mouse? Maybe he can help them do some trip planning after he gets them hooked. :goodvibes

Again, I applaude your motivation. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Looking forward to my run tomorrow (and a teensy bit nervous, but I always feel that way).

:rotfl: No, he can't come visit the Dis while he's on the ship (although they did recently allow them access to Facebook! :cool1: ), but he did check in periodically on my last TR. He'll probably come visit once he's back home. I do know he has talked about Disney with some co-workers before. :thumbsup2

:rotfl: Most of the sailors I know are of the computer geek variety. So, not very scary to me. ;)

I still wouldn't mess with him!

:cheer2:Hi just joining in. Came across this today (potty training my son so pretty much stuck at home for a bit) and wanted to say well done to you. Only read your bits but you've definitely inspired me to try running (I've always given up in the past but really need to take some serious action to get fit/loseweight/become healthier). Keep it up:yay:

I don't think he'd want you messin' with him. ;)

:welcome: The joys of potty training! Good luck with that. :thumbsup2

My biggest tip for taking up running is to take it slowly - both with speed and increasing your running time. The C25K program is great, but John Bingham also has a great program in his book Running for Mortals.

I'm still amazed some days that I'm doing this. Every time I tried to run in the past I'd have pain/burning in my feet/shins like I did when I started this program. Now I realize that was just until my body got used to it. That feeling is now gone. :thumbsup2

Let us know if you start!
