I know I don't post here much (I spend way more time lurking than anything) but feel like I want to share our little Ft adventure with you guys :)

We got down to Orlando at 2pm after a very uneventful flight. B was super cheery the whole time, which was awesome. We flew southwest and the flight wasn't anywhere near full. what surprised me is that while there were plenty of empty window and aisle seats, this one guy walks up and decides it would be a great idea to sit in front of B. Yeah, given the choice, sit in front of the 2 yr old in his carseat who figured out that he can open the tray table with his feet. (LOL)
Anyway, we landed and ILs picked us up. We went to walmart for the water/diapers/snacks trip then checked into Ft Wilderness and got our golf cart. We visited with ILs and then my mom, brother, and aunt met up with us. Off we go to Ohana.
It had been at least a year since the last time I had been to Ohana, maybe a year and a half even, and it was very tasty this time. I have to say that I really liked the noodles. They were kind of ramen-like but the sauce was tasty. I prefer them to the cheese potatoes and at least they are less generic than the potatoes were. I had my wonderful pina colada, which in my very biased opinion is made 100x better at the Poly than anywhere else. I noticed that they have put up a little sushi bar next to Kona, might have to try that out next time. B was over tired and not into eating so DH and DFIL took turns walking him around. The bread pudding desert was tasty (again) and if you don't believe me, well here is proof, as my DMIL will demonstrate-

The next day was our little private family breakfast without everyone there. DH, B, and I went to Chef Mickey's. We had never eaten there before. I thought that the character interaction was awesome (didn't feel rushed and we saw all the characters, though B didn't let us take pics with all of them and totally hit from Minnie under the table!) but that the buffet was just ok. I am just fine with the breakfast at Trails End and while there are definitely more choices at CM, the food wasn't "OMG I have to eat here" good.

We got back to the Ft. and since it was SOOOOO hot (93 that day) we decided to just hang out there. We gave B to DH's parents for a little while so we could take a nap. Then that night we went off-site to Black Angus and had dinner there while my mom watched B.

The next day off we went to Trails End for breakfast. We then waited for some friends of ours to come up from a diff city so that we could go play. My mom watched B while we went to EPCOT. We rode Space Ship Earth and then went to figure out where we wanted to eat. DH and I had ressies at Artist Point that night but we wanted to eat with our friends instead. (WARNING- *getting on my anti-dining plan soapbox here <and I don't mean to offend anyone who really likes it, but it is the bain of my Disney existence> I hate the fact that I need to make up my mind where and when I want to eat 90 days in advance. Things change and number of guests change and the fact that we could hardly get a reservation that wasn't at Mexico even though crowds were super low and there was nary a wait for any ride is BS. I miss just walking up to guest relations on any given day and being able to get in someplace...ok stepping down now). We couldn't find anywhere so we just decided to eat that the mexico quick service instead. We bought Mother's Day gifts for my mom, DH's mom, and my aunt at the pick a pearl in Japan. Then we went on Test Track and Universe of Energy. My brother decided to sit everything out and just waited for us at Electric Umbrella instead of just going back to the resort. <shrug> I would just have left.
Here is a pic of everyone besides me in front of SSE.

Part 2-

We woke up on Sunday and went to Breakfast with ILs at Trail's End. We ate late so we got to have some of their lunch too (at breakfast prices). Then my family met up with us and they wanted to go to a park so I went with them to MK for a little while. I then got some shopping done since we have a Bday party this Sunday and needed a gift for a 5yr old girl.

This is why you should never tell me that you want candid photos taken-

My family left to go to the studios and I went back to Ft Wilderness. DH and I took B to the quiet pool and he had just a total BLAST. It was so much fun and he laughed and laughed and splashed. I wish I had a waterproof camera then so I could have taken some pictures of that. I think it might have been the best part of the trip for me. That night DH's parents watched B while we went to MK EMH with his brother. It was fun. Again, we didn't have to wait to get on anything at all.

The next morning, we continued our pattern for Trails' End breakfast. That day the Space Shuttle Atlantis was taking off so we drove to Cocoa Beach to watch it.

Since it had hit 97 the day before and was around 95 that day, we waited till about 6 to take B to MK. We rode pirates, Haunted Mansion, and Buzz. We also enjoyed a (HUGE) Dole Whip Float (which DMIL and I ended up sharing cause it was that big- definitely not stingy for the $4 it cost) and DH had a citrus swirl and watched the electrical parade.

The next morning we got up early and came home. It was really nice to be back in the early afternoon and got B to nap and we got a rest.

It was a great trip and we are already planning one for November. I think next time we are going to do Hoop Dee Doo again. DH wants to :) Of course we'll stay at the Ft again cause it's just so nice and convenient, plus the ILs have a camper so they can just meet us and stay there too.

The Ft was empty while we were there, though. Whole loops were either empty or just had a small handfuls of people.

Thanks for the trip report! I agree with you on Chef Mickey...The character interaction was great, but the food had a lot to be desired on our last trip. Hoop Dee Doo remains one of our favorites! :lovestruc

It's just that given the choice between CM and Trail's End, I'll take TE. :) It may have less choices but they are alwaya consistent at Breakfast (dinner is hit & miss imo)

Thank you for the report, and WELCOME !
Love the pics, good look'n family ,,and castle. :thumbsup2
Sounds like ya'll had a good time.
I think the majority of the folk here understand how you feel about the food and eating situation,, I also feel some what the same.
Feel free to join us in posting any time/COLOR]

Great report!!! I saw a night launch on our honey moon!!! It is so much fun!!!!

I hear ya on the DDP. I think we will do one sit down dinner for each trip and that is it. The rest will be CS or off property. It really is a short drive too.

It really is a short drive too.

Especially if you take the back roads :)

I once saw the shuttle take off from the hub in front of the castle. Because of where I was standing, it looked like it was taking off literally from the needle of space mountain :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone :)

Nice trip report.
We saw the shuttle launch from FW a few years ago when it went up on the 4th of July.

That was a nice little trip report.

Thanks for sharing.

And, for what it's worth, I totally agree with you about the deterioration of WDW's restaurants. Unfortunately, I do not see that trend reversing itself. Back in the good old days, you could pretty much get an ADR for any restaurant that you wished on the day of, or walk up, and be seated. But, that meant that the restaurants were operating at far less than capacity. You have to hand it to Disney for figuring out a way to keep the restaurants full. I don't like it, but the DDP was a shrewd move on their part. And, they also have been able to keep their hotel occupancy up with the various offers they make. Bad for campers, but good for their bottom line.

Thanks everyone :) We had a fantastic time and I had a good time writing it :)
