He woke up last night with a raging temperature and has not been right since. The doctor doesn't know what's wrong with him but she said he is showing some of the signs of meningitis but not enough for her to be worried (whatever that means :confused3). He's currently fast asleep on the sofa, where he's been since 12.30

I'm torn between letting him sleep because I know he needs it and waking him up in case he won't sleep tonight :confused3

If there's any Pixie Dust going, which might help him get better, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Don't doctors know how to say just the thing to worry you to death! Poor little chap. I'd let him sleep he obviously needs it bless him. Sending you both :grouphug: and plenty of :wizard: to get him well asap

Signs of menigitis? :confused3 I would want to know what that means too. I'm a pediatric nurse in the U.S. and here are some guidelines for fever:

The high degree of fever is not as important as his behavior. Therefore you must see 10-15 minutes of activity at least every 4hrs, to reassure you that he is indeed fighting this on his own. Acetaminophen or ibuprophen will usually bring about a change of behavior within 60 min, so if he's perking up after fever reducer he's doing well. Other things to watch for would be stiff neck, flat pin-point rash, extreme irritability, or extreme lethargy(can't wake him or get him to interact), or trouble breathing.

It's okay to let him sleep awhile. His immune system is working overtime fighting off his illness. But be sure to wake him up every couple hours for liquids & potty breaks so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Hope your little one feels better soon. :umbrella:

Thanks for those pointers minkydog. He was complaining of a sore neck this morning when DH took him to the Doctors. He doesn't have a rash but he is irritable (but that's probably cos he's tired). He just stirred a few minutes ago, I went over and asked if he wanted a drink and he just mumbled 'Leave me alone' and went back to sleep - charming! I am going to wake him in a few minutes as he's now been asleep for 3 hours and hasn't eaten or drunk since breakfast.

It is so worrying when your children are ill, isn't it.

:wizard: :wizard: Aww bless, I'm sending your son some Pixie Dust and hoping that he feels better soon :wizard: :wizard:

It’s very, very worrying and stressful when they’re unwell. I wouldn’t worry about the not eating and the wanting to just sleep is understandable but any further deterioration and I would just take him straight to A&E. The mere mention of meningitis must have scared you to death!

I really hope he gets better soon :grouphug:

Thanks all - he is awake now and drinking at least, although he says he's not hungry. I am signing off for a bit to read him a story. Ta da for now.

Hi Joh, hope he is feeling a bit better now. It is worrying when they are poorly.

Sending some :wizard: and :grouphug: that he feels better soon.

hope your little man cub is feeling a little better now.
Keep us posted {{{{{{pixie dust }}}}}}} coming your way!

It's good that he's drinking now - hope he's soon on the mend.

Hope that your little one is feeling a bit better now. PD coming your way :wizard: ***** as well as some

DD (7) had Meningitis over the summer holidays, she was extremely ill! However she had a rash, so as soon as I saw it I knew what it was!

Hope your poor little soldier is feeling better and that you aren't too sleep deprived!

:wizard: :grouphug:

I hope he is feeling better already!! :wizard:

if you still have any concerns , take him straight to a&e. with meningitis, you dont need to have all the syptoms of meningitis . if unsure take him straight away.
