Our city has been feeling the results of the recession. Layoffs and major cutbacks are being made.

After 18 years in the db, I received my lay-off notice the last day of Dec!:scared1:

Fortunately for me, I have enough seniority in with the city, I can exercise "bumping rights" under the union contract. I bumped the person in the parks dept and she turned around and bumped someone in the finance dept.

So, as of Monday, I will be the new Parks & Recreation secretary. I will still keep my rate of pay and benefits, along with vacation time. I will get a new office in the new YMCA building they recently built in our city. The distance from home to work will remain the same. I'm only about 3 blocks from both the PD and the YMCA!

The detectives are taking me out the lunch today and the Chief & his secretary are taking me to lunch Friday. I have truly enjoyed working here and will miss everyone.:sad1:

Sorry that you will miss people but on a positive side you still have a job! :thumbsup2

Wow, TC, sorry you have to leave your current job but glad you can bump. I, too, work for the PD here and when we were going through budget cuts our Union will not allow us to "bump". So if your job is cut, so be it. I was lucky this year but who knows next.

Good luck in Parks & Rec! :flower3:

Wow, Cindy, thats a big change after 18 years, but you are so blessed to have a job in this economy. Hope you enjoy your new position.:)

Well, today is Friday and my last day as part of the police dept.:sad1:

Wed., when the detective bureau took me to lunch, we were sitting in the restaurant when the human resource director, his secretary, and another person that was with them, walked in. Shannon, the female detective, grabbed me and started wailing, as loud as she could, "Cindy, please don't leave us"!, loud enough for the HR director to hear!:rotfl:

Funny thing is, our cities' law director is a DISer!;) She and I are always talking "disney"! She & her family and youngest DS and I are going to be at WDW for Spring Break at the same time.

I have been trying to stay focused on the fact that I am lucky that I have another a job to go to after I leave the PD. It's hard, though, when you've spent the last 18-20 years (1 1/2 years part time prior to the 18 full time) working here at the PD.

Today the Chief & his secretary will be taking me to lunch. I just hope I don't start bawling before the day is over! I'll take all the prayers and good thoughts I can get!

We have a federal mediator coming into town today to sit down with my union and the city officials. However, even if concessions are made by both sides, I don't know if that would affect any of the layoffs that were already handed down.

:hug:It'll all be ok.

Definitely a mixed bag. Hard to leave after so long. I'm sure you're going to be very missed. OTOH, maybe it'll be a nice change. A new office in a new building sounds nice. ;) And working with kids now? That might be kind of refreshing.

Have a good day today. :flower3:

Actually, I will be working with the seniors since the senior center is also located in the new YMCA building.:)
