Hi everyone!

Just returned from a FL trip, and I was able to sneak over to the Beach Club for about an hour on Thursday night. It was dark by time we arrived (approx. 8:45pm), but some of the night photos came out pretty well. I'm uploading them onto my Yahoo site right now. The uploads are going SLOW, so I might have to finish the job tomorrow.

BCV photos 6-20-02

Unfortunately, the doors did not open for me, so I could only get outside photos. I'm trying to add descriptions, so you will know what you are looking at. There are several pictures of the building itself from many different angles. I also took some of the rooms through the windows as well as the public areas from the windows near the main door.

There are still mini-fences or walls along all the walkways leading to the BCV, EXCEPT if you walk all the way around the building - there is a walkway near the service entrance off of Epcot Resorts Blvd. that was not blocked. I did not hop any fences to get close to the building.;)

A couple of general thoughts:

- The building looks great at night!

- The vegetation between the BCV and the parking lot has really filled in nicely. I'll bet from most rooms, you won't even notice that the lot is there. It'll be most visible from the rooms at the very far end of the building. However, it will also be a very short walk from these rooms to your car.

- As we all know, Epcot Resort's Blvd. is pretty close to the villas along the back of the building. However, after 9pm, there were barely any cars driving by. It was quiet enough to hear the Epcot background music playing in the distance. The Illuminations fireworks will be LOUD from this side of the building, so don't plan on going to bed until after 9:20pm.

- The rooms facing the area of natural undergrowth (kind of facing toward Crescent Lake, or the area sometimes called "the jungle") will also hear some noise - the insects were chirping like crazy out there. Is it like that at VWL?

- Much of the first floor of the wing that extends toward World Showcase was taken up by service facilities for the villas (laundry, garbage, etc.). You probably won't be able to see anything from the rooms above the service areas, but you might hear some noise, especially from the 2nd floor.

- Stormalong bay had posted hours of 9am to 11pm. It was not crowded at 9pm on Thursday, but it had also just stopped raining. The slide was closed.

- The wait for a table at Beaches and Cream was 15-20 minutes at 8:50pm. They now have pagers to alert you when your table is ready (I don't remember that from back in November). The wait at 9:30pm (post-Illuminations) looked longer based on the number of people that were waiting around. They are still using the same refillable mugs (same one that I bought in 9/00).

- There was some BCV stuff in the store - a yellow tee shirt (not very attractive) and a nice hat. Also some newer general BC stuff that looked nice. Didn't notice any pins for BCV, but didn't really look, either.

- The DVC sales desk in the lobby was still open at 9:30pm. I don't remember it being open late into the evening on our recent trips.

- Anyone know what they are going the use the "Solarium" for? It's the room built off the front of the BC building, just left of the main entrance as you face the doors. I took some pictures of the hallway leading into it from the lobby. The entrance is across from the store, near the entrace to the walkway to the BCV.

That's all for now. Any questions?

Thanks, for the great pictures and for the information...We'll be staying at the BCV Sept. 16th - Sept. 23rd...I can't wait!!!

Grotto,

I just noticed that you live in Ann Arbor. Both my husband and I went to school there. It is a really nice town. We took our then 2-year-old daughter 2 years ago there just to visit the campus and the neighborhood. Things have changed a lot since we graduated but it is still so nice. It was a nice change of pace from the New York City area.

Anyway, thanks for the photos and they look great.

Thank you so much for the pictures and your thoughts on locations, sound levels, etc. Your time spent on this is truly appreciated. It is going to seem like forever before my first stay in September.

I watched the slide show and it was so beautiful!! Thanks again for taking the time to post these pictures..Can't wait to see it in person for our Sept trip!!! One of my customers who is also a DVC member comes to the bank everyday doing the countdown till his first trip to the BCV which I think is about 30 days now..He is just as excited as me...thanks again Marianne PS another customer just bought 300 points at the BCV..HE IS ALSO EXCITED and who can blame him...:earsgirl:

Glad everybody liked the pictures.

I just went back in and renamed the pictures and added descriptions of the images and where they were taken from.:

I was going to ask you if they had done anything else with that. When I got in to take the pictures, those doors "magically" opened as well. ;) I didn't take any shots inside because it was basically just a whole lot of furniture, pushed up against one wall, under plastic. The CM's working out in front of the BC told me that they thought it was another "lobby" for the BCV but they weren't sure at all.

Pretty room, isn't it?

Thanks for the photos!

I suppose that the "Solarium" could function as a lobby for the BCV, but if that were the case, I'm suprised that they didn't attach it to the BCV. It looks a lot like the "Drawing Room" area - a casual seating type area. I thought someone said something about a meeting room (like for convention people, etc.) but it didn't look like it was set up well for meetings. Plus, it's very open - I wouldn't think that people at a business type meeting would want to be looking at all the comings and goings around the entrance to the BC.

Pictures 21-23 are looking down the hallway into the Solarium. There isn't much at the end of that hallway, just a room with some nice chairs and small tables.

Grotto, does the "Solarium" connect to the BCV? I saw them just starting to build that in April and asked a CM, he told me it was a walkway to BCV. I then pointed further down to the walkway across from the general store and said "then whats that?" he told me that was also a walkway to BCV. I was a bit confused, I figured if the "Solarium" was a walkway, it was an awful nice walkway since it was completly enclosed.

The "Solarium" does not connect to the BCV. It juts out from the current BC building toward the very end of the BCV, but it does not connect. It partially encloses the courtyard where the main BCV entrance is.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I can't remember where I heard or saw the name "Solarium". Maybe on the new BC/YC/BCV map in the lobby of the BC. I hope that's the correct name for that room.

Grotto, thank you so much, wonderful pictures. Can you tell me what kind of camera you used, regular or digital? What film speed if it was a 35mm? How does the Yahoo site work, do you download to them or scan? I have been holding my own until I saw your pictures now I'm over the edge. Hope you had a great time.

Alice

Thank you for the terrific pictures...we bought into the Beach Club Villas and received a note yesterday that our deed had been recorded. I am more excited by far than with any home we have bought! Our first trip will be next May - if we can wait that long! Sandie B. from Maryland

I love seeing pictures like this. Fantastic. I cannot wait to personaly see the BCV.

The pictures were taken with a digital camera. I have a Sony DSC-S85 (4.1 MP), which I really like. The pictures were taken without any special adjustments (except turning off the flash). Everything is automatic, though there are many manual adjustments you can make - I just haven't played around with it that much. The pictures were not taken with the camera's highest resolution.

Digital cameras are really great! I would never have taken all of these pictures with a regular camera. The nice thing about a digital camera is that you can review your pictures instantly. If you don't like it, take another picture and delete the bad one. Plus, there are no costs for film developing - you just download to your hard drive. I actually took about 40 pictures of the BCV this trip, but only uploaded the 24 best shots.

If you sign up for a Yahoo account (free), you can upload up to 30MB of photos. The photos must be in digital form, either from a digital camera, or scanned and saved on your computer. There are other websites that allow you to do this as well - some free and some for a fee.

Thanks for the info. One more question, the reason I don't take my digital camara is I always think I'm not going to be happy with the print quality. Do you not miss having the actual physical picture. Sometimes I think digital would be better, because you don't have all those uninteresting pictures laying around, but for some wacky reason I don't take my digital. I know this is off the subject, but anyone else relate to this?

This year I'm going to take my digital! You've convenced me with these great pics.

Thanks again,
Alice
