Yep, more kitty stuff. Several nights over the past few weeks DD and I have heard some funny noises coming from her room but hadn't figured it out. A couple of days ago she mentioned that her new kitty (now 13 weeks) loves her stuffed cow and lays with him often. This is our first real week of not being home for 8 hour days so I told her to bring the cow out of the room and leave it where the kitty could cuddle with it.

So, just now I'm hearing those funky noises and :scared1: YIKES my kitten is suckling on the cow! and purring like no tomorrow! I picked up the stuffed cow and he is soaked:laughing: Never had a puppy do this:rotfl:

My pup brady does this and he is almost 3. He suckles a bulldog stuffed animal that he pulled all of the stuffing out of. He kneeds and makes little noises while doing it. My vet said not to worry about it.

My little siamese does that with all kinds of furry things. Might be a blanket, a stuffed animal or even a shirt I am wearing:rotfl: She kneads and purrs too. DS gets so mad when she does it to his pillow:lmao: I think maybe she was separated from her mommy too early.:guilty:

Many kittens will do that when weaned too early. It's a comforting thing, like a pacifier for babies. Our rescue is one now, and still does it sometimes. He used to do it when he was very little to the fuzzy blanket on our bed.

Well, I'm glad to hear that it's common because I find it very cute:lovestruc It makes me feel a little better leaving him home all day (I'm used to dogs);) I get a bit frustrated with his kitty behavior some times but this definately reminds me that he is a baby:cloud9:

Our cat does this as well, and he's 2 now. Whenever my oldest DS picks him up, he snuggles his head under DS's chin and starts suckling on his neck and doing the kneeding thing. And every morning just before my alarm goes off, he hops on the bed and snuggles in between my left arm and my body. Then he starts kneeding and sucking on my arm and purring like crazy. He was barely 4 weeks old when we found him (still had blue eyes) and the vet said he'd stop eventually. But I don't think that's going to be any time soon.

:rotfl: Has he ever ended up with a little kitty hickey? That's too funny :lmao:

I love kitties :cat:.

My cat Tony did that forever! He even toted his stuffed monkey around the house by the foot!! If I ever wanted him to go somewhere, I would just put the monkey there.

My wonderful Woody (who went to Cat Heaven a year ago) used to give me little kitty hickies. He was a big biscuit-maker- he would get in bed with DH and I at night and knead the side of my neck and suck on my earlobe (while purring REALLY loud in my ear the whole time). If he was really energetic, he'd make my ear all red. Man, I miss that cat!! The 3 we have now aren't cuddly like he was.

My cat Sage is 6 months old and he does this! He and his brother have a giant teddy bear they would cuddle with during the day, and Sage lays right in the middle of it and sucks, purring like crazy. It's so cute. My other cat Elvis is a 1 year and a half, and he likes to carry stuffed animals around in his mouth. He doesn't suck on them, but he lays on top of them and holds them in his teeth.

while were talking about odd cat behavior does anyone else have a cat that thinks EVERY bath towel is his? I use one towel to dry and one on the floor for my feet,my cat insists on laying on the floor towel. He sleeps in there all day.

Mine did that for the first few months after we got her, then stopped. In August, she had to have most of her teeth removed because of an infection and since then, she has been doing it again.

Please do a search on "cats wool sucking". This behaviour isn't always a cute, benign behaviour; most times it's a form of OCD in cats, and vets normally do not encourage this, and in fact will want you to discourage your cat.

Our vet made us aware of this when we got our Siamese kitten 8 years ago.

I had a cat that when I came home from work would jump in my arms and cuddle around my neck and if I had a sweater on would suck the sweater and kneed with her paws. It's a comfort thing for them. She was found in a garbage dumpster around 6 weeks old so we think she was taken from mom too soon. We were never sure if she was purposely thrown there or crawled into a bag and got accidentally thrown out.

My dog did this literally til the day he died at age 13. He had a "fuzzy man" toy that he had had since he was a puppy, and he would hold it and sort of massage it with his paws and suck on it. I told the vet about it and she said it was a comfort thing....she said that's how they got the milk to come down when feeding from their mother.

I have to say...he always looked so adorable when he was doing that. I miss that dog like nobody's business. :sad1:

Baby Girl does that to every damp towel she can find--and don't let any of her siblings get on it first!

With mine it dosent even have to be damp. I tossed one of my cabinate the other day and he sleeps on that now too. Hes my odd duck

My cat has a big stuffed dog he does this to. We found him at about 8 weeks, and after watching him sleep curled up on a floor rug, I thought he looked lonely so I put a stuffed dog next to him to see if he would cuddle with it. Well, that was it! He immediately took to that thing like I never thought he would. He suckled it for a couple years, he's 3 years old now and doesn't anymore. But he still kneads and drools on it. LOVES THAT DOG! It's a great source of comfort to him, and I think it's adorable.

Did I mention how many quarters I spent at Circus Circus trying to win that thing? Never imagined it would have the unfortunate cat-scratched-and-drooled-up fate it ended up with!
