Our 1 year old cat seems to be missing. She got out back for an hour last Saturday when I was watering flowers, and there must have been something she liked--we were gone Saturday night and Sunday, but I hardly saw her at all today, no cuddling or leg rubbing.
I saw her about 7, and right after that I asked DS to feed the dog, which entails going out in the open garage, filling the bowl, and coming back in. He did, and even shut the door behind him--I had a bad feeling right away and went out to look for her in the garage or driveway but didn't see her. Anyhow, I haven't seen her since--checked all rooms, windows, basement. She doesn't really come when she's called so I don't know what to do. I might put sweats on and go look for her since I'm up.

 I hope you find her soon.

Hope you find her really soon! I know I panic everytime I can't one one of ours. Sometimes the smellof tuna or the sound of a special treat bag being shook gets them to come out of hiding. Worth a try anyway!

Well I walked two streets over and didn't find her. She has a little bell on her collar so I was listening for that.
What worries me is that when I first went out, I saw a cat on our back deck--Hurray! I think--but it wasn't Tabitha! It was some big gray and white cat I've never seen before. Only a couple of families on our cul-de-sac have cats and I've seen almost every one. It took off running north and across the street--the next street is a cul-de-sac too and there are lots of open yards. Well I couldn't go through the yards with a flashlight at 4AM, so I just walked over a couple of streets listening for her bell.
She is front declawed so I hope this cat didn't hurt her and she's lying somewhere :( .
I need to keep this from DD#1 who starts volleyball tryouts today at 10AM--32 girls trying out for 15 spaces and we can already guess the top 7 or 8, it's going to be tough enough to make the team without crying over the cat.
Just thinking that today I need to finish putting my soccer teams together and this week before Friday (when I have a 1/2 teaching day) I have a gazillion things to do--we haven't school shopped--but if Tabitha doesn't come back this morning we'll have to make flyers for the neighborhood and deliver them.

Sounds like the fliers are the best thing to do right now just in case if someone had seen your cat or if they spot her later, they would know who to contact. Hope you find her soon.

do people leave cats outside where you are? Sounds odd to me since even though we live in the suburbs people keep their cats indoors here....Hope you find her soon.

I hope you find her too. Maybe she will come back when she is hungry. I also agree that flyers would be a good idea if she does not come back today. Also phone the local vets or animal shelters if you have them to report her missing in case anyone brings her in.

I was wondering just out of interest as I have read quite a few cat threads over the past few weeks. In England it is more common for cats to live outside as well as inside so the cats can come and go as they please via cat flaps in the doors. This way they can get to their food and choose where to sleep or play. I have many friends who own cats and they all do this. Is it more common in the USA to have cats who live just indoors and cats that just live outside and do not come into the house at all?

Don't lose faith...she can still show up. My cat wandered off and I thought we had lost him. He was away three weeks. Miraculously he showed up on his own with the "what's all the comotion about ?" attitude. That's a cat I guess. I know how you feel but hang in there. She'll find her wat home.:cat:

She found her way home about 7AM and let her exhausted mommy get about 2 hours of sleep before taking the kids to volleyball tryouts.
Danauk, I think most people these days have their cats inside, although there are exceptions. I like mine inside because they have their front claws out. It's also a lot safer--no worries about getting hit by a car, or attacked by an animal (we do have bats living in the neighbor across the streets chimney, although I don't think they attack cats, but there is the occasional possum or raccoon as well). My older cat is almost 17 1/2 years old. Most people I know who let their cats roam have cats that don't live as long. I have a vivid memory of going to visit some friends of my parents when I was young, and the mom let out a shriek because her beautiful white cat was laying dead on the back porch. Someone had poisoned it.
Aprilgail 2, I didn't think people let cats roam here (I have only had cats out like this 2x in 6 years and both times were accidents). That's why that other cat surprised me so much! Who was it, and what was he doing on my back porch!!! A few months ago a cat was howling at 3AM and that had never happened before, but Tabitha just sat in my open windo by the screen and twitched her tail--didn't respond to the other cat at all.
I had to go out and chase it off because it was gosh-awful noise--that really is where they get the term "caterwauling"!!

I'm so happy that your cat came back!!

We have 2 three yo cats that we just made into outside cats. The female has ruined 2 carpets, many laundry baskets full of clothes, 2 brand new couches, etc. She was marking the house whenever any of the cats in the neighborhood came in our yard.

The male hasn't left the deck much, but she takes off for hours. She is just so much happier, but I do worry about them.

Glad to hear that she made her way back home. I know I would feel very relieved. DSD's cat ran away (he was an outdoor cat) toward the interstate over our back fence late the night before she was to leave for girl scout camp. I tried to calm things by saying that I had seen him dart through that hole in the fence before so I thought he knew where he was going and also knew his way back home. DW went out on the tollway to look for him and didn't seem him dead on the highway or anything, so I still held out hope but felt bad for DSD. I went out about 3:00 am and looked in one of his usual hiding places and, sure enough, he was there. I left him there and when I got up in the morning he was at the back door wanting to get in the garage to get to his food bowl. It made me feel awesome to get DSD up with the words that Butter was home! Unfortunately, dear Butter only lived another 6 months or so, though. Our present cat, Candi, is an indoor cat, which ultimately has been lots better. But she is not declawed, so even if she gets out she probably could take care of herself for a short time. When she has gotten out, fortunately, she either does not bolt away or she goes under our deck to explore.

I'm glad your cat came home.
