My kids are in adult shoes!!

This! My DD10 wears a size 8 and on the bright side, I've been wearing a size 10 since the 6th grade, so I'm thinking in another year or two, her foot will be maxed out (hopefully) and we'll be wearing the same size (not sure if that's good or bad, but it can only help right :confused3)? :goodvibes

I hear ya. I almost fell over in shock when we went from kids to adult tap shoes. The price doubled. $75 for a pair of tap shoes that I'm lucky to get through the dance year in KILLS me! On the bright side though, her ballet shoes are stretched out enough to at least get this season started in and her dance school had mistakenly ordered tan jazz shoes and the company would not take them back, so I got her a pair of those for $10 for classes. I'll have to get black come recital time, but that's months away at this point :)[/B]

DH does leather work as a hobby. If it's a light enough tan try this: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/2600-01.aspx It might take several coats and a steady hand but it's worth a try if it will save you $$.

I just bought dd13 pointe shoes. Dh was with us at the fitting. You should have seen his face when the fitter said dd should be getting a new pair every 3 months at least. I didn't even ask about the price of the pointe shoes until we were at the register. They were $88 which does not include the ribbon and elastic. This is not on the expensive side for pointe shoes. Since I don't sew I also paid $10 to have an experienced person sew the ribbon/elastic for me.

The dance studio does sell some cheaper pointe shoes (still doesn't include elastic/ribbon) but I would not get pointe shoes without a professional fitter. Fortunately dd has worn the same size 7.5 for two years now. Her ballet and tap shoes probably fit but may be too worn so I may need those too.

DD may be set for sneakers to start school but is now saying that I told her once her feet stopped growing she could get Uggs for the winter.

I wear a lady's size 7, but in a number of name brands (Toms and Lands End, for example), I can wear a kids' size 5. They're a little wider, so this might not work for someone with narrow feet.

Yep, me too :thumbsup2
DS is in a 9
DD is petite - a girls size 2 is often big.

Thanks. I may give that a try!

sounds like a perfect Cmas gift to me ;)

My DD (almost 8) inherited DH's feet- wide, Fred Flintstone feet. This child's feet have been the bain of my existence since she started wearing shoes! :scared:

Every since she hit the big kids sizes it is very hard to find a wide shoe. In the spring she started complaining about ankle and lower leg pain, turns out she has pronated feet and needed orthotics.

So, we just got the $400 orthotics for back to school which insurance doesn't cover, hopefully we will get 18 months out of them! :faint: She needed some sneakers they would fit in, luckily we are an hour from the New Balance Headquarters and hit the big tent sale last month. We let her get a subtle looking pair and a bright pair, luckily both were less than a full price pair from Zappos.

I have an impossible time finding her casual and dressy shoes that fit, now I need to find ones that will fit the orthotics. I have actually placed orders from Zappos of 8 or more pairs of shoes so we can try multiple sizes and brands without driving to a zillion stores, only to end up with one pair of shoes that fit! Last year we tried kids Dansko shoes and DD tripped so much at school a substitute teacher screamed at her never to wear them again- poor kid was traumatized!

There is actually one pair of inexpensive shoes that DD loves, runs wide and gives her good support, the Danskin Kenzie Mary Jane from Walmart. It goes up to a 3, which DD now needs with the orthotics. I am already bummed that I can't get the next size up for my back-up stash! Lands' End had velcro mary janes that worked perfect for her- this fall they got rid of the wide sizes! I get headaches just thinking about getting shoes for DD!

My youngest DD is now a size 7 in women's. We went to Off Broadway for shoes & she was able to get a pair of Addidas for $45. They had plenty of styles for her age in women's sizes including Van's, Converse & Nike.

I took my 12 year old niece shoe shopping... the lady measured her foot and said she was an 8 1/2. She found a shoe she loved but it was $150.00. The lady said well we have that exact shoe in kids size (size 7 youth). She went and got it and it fit perfectly. Paid $80! The sales lady said yeah a lot of people do not know that kids shoes go that big. She said Ughs go that big as well and are a lot cheaper. I know what I will be buying from now on since I'm a 7 1/2!

We have the exact opposite situation in house than most of you. We are the land of the tiny feet. I wear a 6.5, DH 8.5-9.0.

DS16 only moved into the men sizes in the last year. It was rough when he was stuck at a kids 7.5. DD9 wears a kids 13.5. She will be 10 in a few weeks. Thank goodness she is finally at the 13 level. She was in toddler sizes forever which made it hard to find a dressy shoe that didn't look too young.

DS Did everything except stuffing his shoes to try to make me buy him shoes that were too big just so he could get them in the mens dept. He hated buying youth shoes. I loved it because of the price. And he is about 5'8''.

An interesting side note.....DD was adopted, yet somehow she shares the family trait of small feet:goodvibes. We think thats pretty cool :)

Yeah, I buy adult shoes for my 15 and 13 year olds. It is more expensive for sure!

My oldest ds is 11, is 5'4 1/4 and in mens shoe size 10 which is my dh size....my dad is a 13 so I know where he's getting it from. He was in a mens 8 a year ago. He is also a hockey player and the jump in price to mens skates (and mens equipment) was harder for me to accept than the shoes! Luckily he's like me and loves a good deal and doesn't care about getting shoes on clearance, he's got it figured out he can get two pair for what the price of one pair is.

We bought tap and jazz today plus new dance paws to the tune of $140. Still need character and lyrical. She can still wear ballet and hip hop we got in December.

They are right. The boxes will break down, and particularly for a new student that can lead to injury. My DD's teacher has been teaching pointe for 30 years and insists on fitting all of her students herself, at least until they are experienced enough to know what feels right and works for them. We have probably one more year before we start down this road with DD9.

My dd9 wears a women's 7.5. I took her to get shoes yesterday (school started last week) and she was able to gets a kids size 4 converse shoe for $36. I wear a 6.5 and I'm able to put those 4's on and they are a bit loose.

Ds wears a 6 which I can still find in the boys department but probably his next shoes will have to come from the men's.
