My Journal to Me - Comments welcome!

s- granola bar, handful of PB pretzels, small handful chocolate covered PB pretzels

I have never seen the chocolate covered ones! I am drooling, I LOVE the PB ones. I have to slap the bag out of my hand everytime we go to Costco...

You will get back on track soon, it takes time. And I bet seeing 170 again on the scale was just the push you needed. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!

Bad Scale!!! :badpc: (Forget the computer - they need this pic with a scale! - at least for me!!!) If I were you I'd just ignore it until the Chinese food wore off. Hang in there, Anna! I definately know how you feel.

Don't ya just hate that scale? Personally I think they should all be incinerated! Don't despair, Chinese food is evil for the waistline (American Chinese food cannot be authentic because if it was China would be populated by nothing but bloated, 300 pounders). Last time I ate Chinese, I couldn't get my wedding ring off for two days. I agree with Amy M., that number is good for one thing, motivating you to not see it again! And I hear you on the mom-is-a-taxi thing, my mother's rule of thumb was that if you could get to something by foot or bike, go for it, otherwise forget it. Clearly the fact that my minivan has 110,000 miles on it indicates I do not share her wisdom! As your new routine becomes old routine, you'll figure out your own schedule of eating and exercise. In the meantime, just keep drinking water and do your best. The rest will fall into place!

Thank you all for your encouragement. I really appreciate it :grouphug: . I got to some journals today and will hopefully get to more in the next day or so.

I did a bit better today. I drank 104 oz of water and ate not great, but better. I defense of the midafternoon pizza, I am taking a nasty antibiotic (sinus infection) and it gives me a metallic taste in my mouth all the time, as if I was sucking on nails or something. I go a little nuts trying to make the taste "go away". Still no exercise.

Finished the "Back to School" packet for DD10 and the rest of the paperwork (for now) for DD12. She is applying for Independent Study PE using her swimming. It means that she will get out of school an hour early (to do homework....). The application process is ridiculous though: half a dozen forms/contracts/etc to be filled out and signed by us, her, and her coach; a letter from us in WHY she should be allowed to do this; and the real kicker, all of her official competition records/results/ranking. This may be fine and dandy for something like tennis where there are "singles" and "doubles" events. For swimming there are events for each of 4 different strokes, long course events in meters and short course events in yards (depends on the pool), and three different lengths for each (50, 100, 200) - 53 pages of paper when it was all done. I spent the better part of Sunday and Monday pulling all the pieces together.

Food:
8:15a - peach, almondbutter & jam on wholewheat
10a- apple, 8oz FF yogurt
12:45p - 1/3c chicken salad, 1 serving wheat thin Crisps
3:30p - peach, last slice of pizza
5:45p - small handful chocolate covered PB pretzels
6:30p - 1c cheese tortellini, 1/2c marinara sauce, asparagus, 12oz 1% milk

Amy, Jane, Amy: I was definitely mad at the scale, but, yes, it is motivating me to get back on track.

Amy: yup, I remember walking 2.5 miles each way to middle school. The middle school is less than two miles away, but kids around here don't seem to walk anywhere. To be honest though, the street goes by two canyons between our house and school and it freaks me out to think about my 12 year old child walking past these. I guess I have read about too many bad perverts out there ...

Amy: The chocolate covered PB pretzels are heavenly! Luckily, I can't get them easily around here. On our way through Oregon earlier this month, we stopped at Harry & David's headquarters. It is a supermarket of just Harry & David's! That is where the pretzels came from. Thankfully, I only bought a small bag and they are almost all gone. Still have a number of bags of MooseMunch though ...

CJK: thanks for the encouragement, and no, the chinese food wasn't even that good, but I ate it anyway  .

Marie: DD10 considers the day before school a day of mourning :rotfl2: . Back in school 3 weeks - wow! I guess I can't complain. Whatever happened to August being the "Dog Days of Summer" ?

Hi Anna, sounds like you are getting back on track. I think you should pat yourself on the back for doing so well through vacation, transitioning back into real life and getting all this paperwork done with virtually no gain. :cool1: :thumbsup2

I walked to and from school too, even as a kindergartener, I would walk home alone, midday with nobody else around. Times have changed for sure! My son is walking home alone now for the first time ever but I still take him in the morning. So far I have met him both days in a row out on the driveway! Luckily there are lots of kids walking home too but not the last leg which sort of freaks me out.

Thats incredible, 53 pages to get her excused from doing PE activity so that she can swim and study on her own! Ever wonder what it will be like to get them into college? I fear the day...

Hi Anna,
Well done for starting to get back on track so quickly :)
Sounds like things are pretty hectic for you at the moment, so its proberbly better to ease yourself back into things slowly.
When you have sorted all the school stuff out make sure you take some time out for yourself :)
I like the transporter idea....i wouldnt have to fly to wdw anymore :)

Hi Anna,

It sounds like you are on your way to getting back on track! :thumbsup2 I think you are doing a great job transitioning from vacation back into the school routine.

Speaking of school, I can't believe how quickly the summer went by! My DD5 is using an online virtual academy for homeschooling this year and her first day of attendance is next Monday. I was very surprised to hear the busess rolling this morning to pick up kids for their first day of school. Since my daughter doesn't start until Monday, I wasn't thinking about the local schools schedule.

I hope you have a great Wednesday! :sunny:

I think all the hoop jumping will be worth it for DD. She can get all her PE credits doing something she loves!

I guess my kids must be weird - they were both looking forward to school starting!

I think you are slowly getting back on track. First was the water, next the eating, and you will finally get back into exercising too. Don't worry, it will happen!

Clearly I am not fully back on track yet - ate lousy, didn't drink enough and still no exercise. I took DD12 and a friend to see "Material Girls" (Hillary Duff & sis) today. DD12 really doesn't know what to do with herself this week. She is so nervous, yet sort of excited, for middle school to start. Luckily, DD10 is loving her 6th grade teacher and class. She is all smiles now in the morning getting ready for school.

Thanks guys for all your support. It helps me not get discouraged when I have days like today. In thinking back over the past several years, the Fall is when my weight/healthy living really gets out of control. In the Spring, I am disgusted with myself and start eating right and exercising and I'll lose some weight. I sort of coast through the Summer, not losing or gaining. Then School starts, it gets crazy, and I gain weight and get discouraged and just figure what the heck through the holidays. I am determined to not let that happen this year!

Food:
b- granola bar
s/l - too many PB pretzels and way too much movie popcorn
s - granola bar and more PB pretzels, 14 oz 1% milk
d - Rubio's: chicken taco and 1/3 order of Nachos

Water: 78 oz water

Amy - Knowing that ISPE would really be worth it is what kept me going putting together DD12's portfolio. From what other parents have told me, the district really trys to discourage the kids from doing ISPE and makes the whole application process very challenging, but anyone that completes a portfolio gets approved. I hope so ....
DD12 loves school and looks forward to the new year. Even though she is nervous about middle school, she is still ready for it to start. DD10 doesn't like change of any kind. School starting is a change so she doesn't like it. Once school starts though she is fine.

Tracy - have fun with DD's first day of kindergarten. Take pictures! You are a trooper to do homeschooling. I don't have that kind of patience. :rolleyes1

Tracey - time for myself? What's that? :lmao: .By the time I get everyone else taken care of, I am too pooped to do anything for me. You are right though. I do need to make time for myself.

Amy - College seems so far away, but it really isn't. It is scary that decisions made in middle school will impact College applications. Honors or non-honors classes? Spanish/Language now or in HS? ISPE, Band or regular PE? We want DD12 to continue swimming for many reasons, but the fact that it looks good on College apps is a consideration. DD12 has a friend who is taking all Honors classes, Band for PE, and Spanish as her 1 elective. Plus outside of school she has piano and religion classes. She will be one busy girl! DD12 is taking Honors classes and she chose to take art & multimedia as her elective (no homework!). She sort of wanted to take Band for PE, but then she would not have time to keep swimming. She would like to continue piano lessons, but we have stopped those for the time being until we see how school goes. They are growing up way too fast ...

Woo Hooo! :woohoo: Just got a call from school and DD12 has been accepted for ISPE! :cheer2:

Yay, I'm glad she made it!!!!! DS10 decided he wanted to be in orchestra this year. He chose the cello. So now we have to go out and find a cello this weekend. Could he have gotten a bigger, bulkier instrument?!? Since he is in the gifted program, he is automatically enrolled in all honors classes in Jr High and AP classes in High School. We'll see how that goes...

You need to stop your trend of gaining in the fall. You can get out of your rut! I was in a really bad "not wanting to exercise" funk, but I think I finally snapped out of it. You can snap out of it too, all it takes is 1 good day, then the next one is easier, then you see the scale go down and the next one is even easier. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!! :cool1: :cheer2:

Come on, Anna - join us in the detox! You've got nothing to lose - but weight!

Sounds like your kids are doing a great job in school. Glad your daughter was approved for the ISPE PE. Congrats on making it thru all that paperwork!! Whew! You must have more patience than I have!

Can I send you my kids for a few weeks?? :rolleyes1
Congrats on ISPE! That's great!
My DS brought home some paperwork for the school choir....it went into file 13!! Heck, it takes 2 hours to do 27 math problems....like i need the distraction of choir practice!!!! :joker:

Congrats on DD's acceptance!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: All the hard work paid off!

You know, the fact that you recognize the pattern of weight gain in the fall is the first step. As good ole Dr. Phil says, "you can't change what you don't acknowledge". Now that you know the pattern, you can work towards changing it. With your determination, I KNOW you can do it!!!! :cheer2: Have a great weekend!

sorry whats ISPE ???
You have a foreigner here you know!!!!
Any way it sounds like good news so congratulations :)
I agree with CJK (& DR Phil!!) Make those changes NOW dont put it off, you can do it, you go girl whooooooo hoooooooo :)
have a GREAT week
Tracey xxx

I am almost embarrassedd to logon. Dumb day, again. Calorie wise it was probably ok (don't even want to put it into fitday), but not health wise - lots of fat, no fruit, 1 veggie. No exercise, and NO water. I guess the good side is I recognize how poor my choices were, now I just need to find the motivation to fix it. I have done a bit better this morning (peach, 1/2 grapefruit, hot chocolate), but can't seem to snap out of the blah's. Hopefully it gets better next week. Sorry to be whiny. It is just the mood I'm in right now.

Food:
b - 3 triscuits, slice of ham (grazing while I made DD10's lunch)
s - granola bar
l - ham sandwich on sourdough w/ mayo & mustard, 12 oz 2% milk
s - granola bar
d - carne asada burrito w/ beans, tomatoes, guacamole, 12 oz 2% milk

Water: 16.9oz

Tracey - sorry, ISPE = Independent Study Physical Education. :teeth:

Amy -
Could he have gotten a bigger, bulkier instrument?!?
LOL. Maybe the Bass? :rotfl2: Good luck with your cello search and orchestra.

Amy, Marie - I wish our school had choir or orchestra. DD12 loved honor choir last year in 6th grade. Unfortunately, the middle school does not have as good a music program. Band is the only option and it is not great.

CJK, Tracey, Amy - Thanks for the encouragement. I'm glad you have faith in me. I am in a funk, and I don't really know why. You are right though. Recognizing the pattern is the first step. Now I need to do something about it...

Jane - I am not sure my family would survive me on detox :rotfl2: . If something hasn't improved in the next week though, I will join you. That's it. I am giving myself until the end of the month to get all of the pieces back on track: eating right, exercise, and water! There. I have set a goal. Now keep me to it. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for listening/reading/commenting. I really do appreciate the support. Just typing it all out seems to help me get a better perspective.

Anna, I am so much like you in that every fall I just sort of bag it in anticipation of the holidays. My daughter's birthday is 9/10 and it starts then, continues when my son's birthday hits 10/14, then there's Halloween and heck by then its Turkey Time so why bother? We are both NOT going to do that this year! Just get back on with the exercise, join September's challenge and that will help. The exercise challenges are the only thing that keeps me going. I think you are doing great and can accomplish a healthy fall easily!

Thats great about your daughter getting into the ISPE thing. At least you know you didn't fill out that paperwork for nothing! College is just around the corner. I mean in 6 years my son will be a senior. Six years ago, he was starting kindergarten, and the time since then has flown, and I know the next six years will too. When I was a kid college didn't even come onto the table with anybody until junior year. Times have changed!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Have you gotten any exercise in today yet? Just start small, then work back up to your long walks. Get some workout DVDs that you can do at home. You'll get there!

I asked DS (in a very smart alec tone) why he didn't just pick the bass and he said he would have, but they could only pick the voilin, viola or cello... He is extremely music oriented, so I am glad he is finally showing an interest. He always sings in the perfect pitch. I think poor DD is tone deaf, and of course she loves singing... :rolleyes1

I hope your food day finishes as well as it started! :wizard:

 Anna,

I know how tough it can be to get back OP after a vacation. ::yes:: Just remember to take things step by step and day by day. Start small and work your way up. I know you CAN do it! :cheer2: Go Anna Go! :cheer2:

Have a great weekend! :sunny:

Anna, you've got a lot on your plate right now. The stress definately doesn't help our eating. Don't feel bad. All summer long I've been craving Milk Duds and cheese and its finally shown up on my scale. :guilty: Don't ever think we think that you're whining. We've all been there. :goodvibes You will turn this around!
