My insurance will pay for what !!!!

Yes, i have seen it happen once. After an ice storm a few years ago many people were without power (for quite a while). Some of the insurance companies were waiving the deductible and giving people money for spoiled food. I am thinking it was a bit less than $500, but either way that is definitely service above and beyond.

Ah yes, insurance, something we pay for but are not suppose to use. If you do, the fear of retaliation of rate increases or dropped coverage; even when it is a covered expense.

Certainly a common opinion.

However, some of us buy insurance for catastrophic losses and choose higher deductables in exchange for lower rates. As long as I don't have a claim more than once every 18 months....and assuming I am smart enough to bank the money I save for 18 months, I am money ahead.
I've had 2 auto claims in the past 40 years, and 1 homeowners claim in 29 years for a grand total of about $2,500.

I also received $500 for spoiled food from my homeowner's policy after Sandy. I doubt there was more than $200 worth of food in the fridge and freezer. And surprisingly, FEMA gave me $800 toward a new washer and dryer. As for flood insurance, I got a settlement, not enough to cover all the flood damage, but then again I knew what wasn't covered and didn't expect it.

Many people are having major difficulties getting their legitimate claims settled. Or for one reason or another, they're not eligible for FEMA assistance.

Our insurance would cover loss of food, but not the time it cost me to shop for it, and I wouldn't be able to replace it at the sale prices I paid. That's why we have a gasoline-powered generator to ensure that we will not have spoiled food in the event of extended loss of commercial power.

People, read your insurance policies. If you don't know what they cover, you don't know whether you have enough coverage, either.
