My imagination of what June was like and what it was really like..

I'm from California, where our heat is dry. After getting off the plane, the first time those automatic doors opened at MCO, that wall of thick humidity hit me like a suffocating blanket.

Going into the parks, I cursed, why did Walt Disney even think this was an appropriate place for a resort? Eventually, I decided I had to just accept being covered in a gross mixture of sweat, sunscreen, and humidity -- and I think now I kind of miss that whenever I go in the winter and it's not unbearably hot. It's almost as if the heat is a character in the story or an old friend.

I did see a Disney executive wearing a suit one day, and that just looked like the worst punishment one could ever have.

Hahahahaha! This cracked me up! YES! The heat IS a character!

The Heat and Humidity are like Chip and Dale! There should be pins! Great giant costumed characters! And they wouldn't sign autographs, but, instead, just drip sweat and smear the ink of the other signatures.:D

No one could get near them without getting all hot and sweaty themselves, and Olaf can never be in the same room with them! :P

We went end of May-June 3 2016 and I thought it was hot, but not as humid as summer. We went end of June once and I said never again. I send the rest of my family without me when they want to go in summer.

You have to prepare in advance for summer at wdw. Get use to the heat the best you can before you leave. For most people about a month ahead of time should be fine. I work by a 1600 degree heater. Yes you read that correctly 1600 degree. But that is nothing compared to the heat at wdw. I'm sure it helps me prepare a little bit for it.
If you have a yard do your yard work in the hotest part of the day. Get ready for wdw. But know your limit. Also take long walks. I like to walk a half of a marathon a day. Not all at one time but throughout the course of the day.
When you are at wdw take advantage of the free water. If the heat is getting too much for you go some place inside and cool off. Eat inside. Do not eat at a place that doesn't have inside seating.
Don't be afraid to leave the park a few hours and go take a nap or go swimming. Also remember to put on sunblock. Do the inside rides and shows at the hotest part of the day if not going back to hotel.
Enjoy but be safe. Know your limit and other people in your party.

Yes! This! I think because we are Georgia folks, the heat/humidity was just a bit worse than what we deal with so it wasn't a huge deal. Our Illinois grandson melted into a puddle, had to lug around one of those mister, asked to go back to the resort, and, even worse, wasn't up to the fireworks! Getting heat ready, IMO, is as important as the FPs and ADRs!

Bwahahaha!!!

Such a great thread! Thanks for posting!

I do think it's funny how OP said last September was no too bad, while we were there last September and thought is was SO HOT! LOL. Maybe because we're from Michigan? There were a couple times I was about to have a panic attack. Especially waiting for a bus from HS to DS. Just standing there in the blazing sun, no cover, and no sign of any bus for about 45 minutes. It was not pretty. My niece looked like she was going to pass out. The humidity...it's an entity.

I remember going to Vegas 8 years ago in late June. Throughout the week it was something like 103-105 everyday. Now that is hot and it was at times very uncomfortable. BUT I got back home in KC and it was something like mid-80s but with high humidity and it was sooo terrible in comparison.

Humidity or lack thereof makes a big difference for sure.

It hasn't been hot at all here in NH. A couple times it got a bit hot at 2ish and I went out and did yard work...but it's not hot enough to prepare for Florida heat and humidity. I have resigned myself to bringing an umbrella, and a fan in a back pack with a hydration system. I've water proofed my shoes and sandals. I think the umbrella will protect me from the sun and everything fits nicely into my pack without too much weight, except for the water. But I can't be anymore prepared! We have a dryer where we are staying, so we can dry the moist clothes if need be. I'm still very excited and ready to take on the monster that is the "heat" and still have a great time!

When we went in Sept, our first day only got to 87 and the evening, I actually needed a light sweater, ha! The rest of the week had a high of 90, but no more. It just wasn't bad at all and we were able to go to the halloween party in our costumes and not sweat at all!

Which was imperative since I was Mary Poppins and I'm quite certain Mary Poppins would never have sweaty armpits! :p

THIS. My DH and I have gone in August the past three years, and if I have a suggestion for anyone, it's to do laundry at the resort! Many people stay for 7 days and don't room in their suitcases for 14 outfits (or even have 14 bras!). I actually think it's pleasant to do laundry in the resorts as they are always next to the swimming pools. So start your laundry, watch the clock, and enjoy a swim until it's time to change clothes over to the dryer! Then just keep swimming... :-)
How does laundry work at the resorts now? (Haven't been in years...) Do you need coins, or your magic band, or how does it work? Thanks!

I honestly don't remember specifics off the top of my head, but I can give you a little info! I don't think you can use your Magic Band. I think you can use coins or a credit card. I'm sorry I don't remember that well... I'm usually trying to hurry up with the laundry so that I can swim! One cool thing to check out, though: http://classic.laundryview.com/disneyworld/. This told us when the laundry machines were open so that we didn't waste our time hauling all of the items from our room. One tip: Use a suitcase for darks and another for lights, and roll 'em down! Easy peasy.

This is what I do if I have to go during the summer. I bring my camelback which also doubles as a backpack (has a few small compartments and an area to hold some clothes). I fill the bladder with ice then pour cold water on top of it. About an hour or so before leaving for the parks, I leave it in the freezer. It does not freeze but makes it very cold. I then wrap the bladder with styrofoam sheeting (the type you get with a new tv or computer monitor). That seems to keep it cold for a long time and the ice pack resting against your back keeps you comfortable for a little while.

getting off that wet sports bra was like wrestling an angry octopus.
In 2008 I was participated in a committee hearing that was televised live on C-span. The room held about 100 people with several US senators and congressmen seated as the panel moderators. I was seated behind the moderators (press area) so was very much covered by the C-span cameras. (I am not being political here - just describing why I was on TV - you've all seen those hearings.)

I had worn a garment similar to Spanx except that it had "bones" in it. I finally decided that it was horribly uncomfortable and had to go. I left for the restroom, got the garment halfway up my body where it got stuck. I could not get up up over my head nor could I get it back down. I envisaged having to go back on live TV asking someone to please rescue me. When I FINALLY got it off I tossed it in the trash can.

Wow...great idea! I'm using my backpack with a bladder and had been thinking about how to keep it cold. Did you just put cubes in it and then added the water and stuck in the freezer overnight?

OMG...2 funny, this should be part of a sitcom....like Miranda.

You really do not want to freeze it overnight. That could damage the seams in the bladder and make it uncomfortable against your back. I just load it up with ice and then fill with water then into freezer for about an hour. I try and load up with water before going to the park so I can avoid using the water in the backpack for a little while. I also have a lizard skins drink tube insulator which keeps the water cold while passing through the tube.

You are so right with this! I'm in ONtario, Canada and we've had add very little heat and humidity this summer. Literally one or two truly summer days. Our August trip is going to be like visiting the surface of the sun. Still excited though!

Thanks for the tip on the Wal-Mart fans, OP! We are going in three weeks. We have both done August trips before, and are used to the humidity, but every little bit of breeze helps!

A couple of weeks ago, my DS called me. He asked when the last time we went to Disney in August was. I said 2014. The reason he was asking, is, his AC stopped working in his car. He delivers pizza, so he was forced to drive in 90 degree heat with his windows down. (the horror!) As he was doing this and "dying", he started to think about our trip to Disney in August and he figured if he was this hot and uncomfortable in Virginia Beach in June, what was WDW in August going to be like? So he called me and asked...once he realized it was that recent, he was shocked, because he said he could not recall being uncomfortably hot on that trip. I explained that we weren't. Sure, it was hot, but nothing we couldn't handle.

I do think our imagination gets away from us when we think about the heat. But in reality, it is not all that bad.

Your "angry octopus" is why cotton sundresses with the built-in bras are amazing. Of course, I'm not well endowed, so it really doesn't matter. Not having a sweaty bra and some ventilation works for me!
