We typically always go in April, Feb, Jan, Oct, Nov, or Dec....when the temps are cooler and reasonable. I had envisioned June, July & August as this sweltering, tennis shoe melting, steaming asphalt, heat stroke inducing larger than life experience.
But we went anyway, to take a grandson....at the end this June.
I wanted to share what it was really like for those who try to avoid the hot temps, like we did. (I did go in Sept. last fall with a girlfriend and we had cooler than normal temps so it wasn't bad at all).
I'm from Georgia and used to hot summers. Yes, it was hot like that, but the humidity was worse. So much worse, omg.
All day long I had a layer of sweat on my face and chest. My underthings stayed sweaty and I went through two bras per day/night. At the end of touring each afternoon, getting off that wet sports bra was like wrestling an angry octopus.
Having a tiny, 5-inch hand held fan (they have them at walmart for about $3) was a life saver. That big ol' thing they sell at disney for $20 is a pain to lug around, The tiny one was great and actually had more air power. It saved my life, by cooling me down. Didn't need the mister, my face was already wet, haha!
Overall, I had grown the 'thought' of the heat to a larger than life experience, and it wasn't as bad as I expected. If you try it, come prepared. Bring a small fan, plenty of bras and panties, baby powder, & sunglasses.
And drink drink drink drink. None of us got dehydrated but the opportunity is clearly there.
(grandson is from a much cooler state and he wilted from the humidity, kept saying he just wasn't used to it and can we please go back to the hotel....)
So all in all...we were surprised. It was just a southern summer...but sweatier.
