My idea for canceling adrs...

We are just back tonight from 10 nights. It was wonderful!

One thing that really bugged me was that when I tried to be a good diser and cancel my adrs that I realized we weren't going to need, I would be on hold for 10-20 minutes. Why couldn't there be some sort of cancellation option on the dining phone option for cancellations? After the first few times on hold I gave up and just let them go. I felt really bad, but there was no way I was going to spend hours on hold over the course of 10 days. I didn't have that many... so I am hoping it didn't affect too many people, but I felt really guilty about it. It is also almost impossible while in a different park than the one in which the adr is located. Once I did cancel with the concierge, but often the lines were just too long.

How hard would it be to have a "cancellation line" option on the Disney Dining phone system. Maybe you could enter a code or something....

I should clarify, these were adrs that we decided we didn't need when we were already at WDW. Usually it was while we were running out the door or were already at a park. If I realized we didn't need the adrs before we left I called immediately to cancel.

I still think it would be easier if you could cancel ADR's online. I understand booking online would be too much traffic and hard to maintain but cancelling surely would be straight foreward. You would just go on fill in details and then this would be emailed to the dining team to action off the system. Also would mean you could check ADR's

I agree. We canceled a bunch of ADR's and I was on hold forever!

During our Dec trip we were lucky the weather was beautiful and the kids would rather be a BB or by the resort pool so I was able to sit there and cancel away but I'm not crazy running up my cell phone minutes because WDW won't dedicate some of their reps to just cancellations.

Another option for canceling unneeded ADRs is to use your lobby concierge! They can cancel anything you need to have done. They can also make a new reservation for you if there is availability.

I never thought about that option. Thanks!!! :)

Excellent point, but the OP did that once. However, I can understand her point about not wanting to wait in line to cancel her ADR too.

I think that they could definitely use a better cancellation system.

You can cancel an ADR at ANY restaurant; or, guest services at the parks.

I agree! On one trip we wanted to cancel a dinner reservation that we fully intended to use-but just decided we really didn't want a big dinner that night. I called several times-put on hold forever-finally I was lucky to catch the concierge desk empty and asked them to cancel for me. If there was an automated line, a direct line for cancellations or better yet-internet booking-I could have easily cancelled.

You can also cancel reservation at the parks. We cancelled adr for Prime time at DHS at xmas time right at the booth for same day reservations and while we were there made one for Kona Cafe later that night. Worked out very well.

I had no idea I could cancel at any restaurant! That would have made life easier!

We also found a few times when we did want to eat somewhere that there were no adrs available if I called, but we were able to walk right in.

No idea why, but the concierge line at SSR was always a VERY long wait. The lobby and main pool seemed pretty busy for this time of year, but we never saw anyone in our CP hallways (even that pool was semi busy for a "quiet" pool, normally they've been empty in Jan).

If we ever wanted to cancel an ADR, we went to the concierge or guest services. No wait and it was quick! :)

I agree there should be some other number you can call and cancel. But what I did, because I didn't feel like being on the phone was go to the guest services and cancelled them there. I know there may be long line ups, but both times I went it was just 2 people ahead of me and my daughter and I wanted a break from the heat, so we were fine waiting in line. My husband and son were already off to do some rides so, we had some time to relax.;)
