My husband just watched a man die

But what if you just can't get the item to come up and the person is clearly choking? And also, if it's an allergic reaction, wouldn't a tracheotomy help?

Even in an ER, surgeons try very hard to avoid an emergency tracheotomy. It's not a simple thing to do. (even though they did it on MASH, it's not like that in real life)

I am so sorry that your DH had to witness such a tragedy. DH almost choked at home a couple of years ago. I could not apply enough pressure on his chest to bring it up. He was able to do it to himself by using the corner of the dining room table.

The same thing happened to my boyfriend!! I tried, but couldn't do it. I felt so helpless, it was the worst thing ever. I thought I was going to watch him die. But he did it himself on a chair. I was shaking and crying afterwards.

But there is a funny part, the piece of bratwurst he was choking on flew out of his mouth, and my dog jumped up and caught it in the air!! hey, food is food! :lmao: :lmao:

We still laugh about that now. :teeth:

I thought if was mandatory that all restaurants and eating establishments have the procedure for Heimlich and CPR posted like in the employee breakroom or wherever they are mandated to post legal procedures so everyone has access to it.

I know our work has one posted in our kitchens on each floor.
