My husband broke his toe. We arrive in one week

You may want to go ahead and rent a scooter. My good friend broke her foot about a week before her trip and the scooter was a lifesaver. It can be a pain on the buses, but will make it easy to get around in the parks. Good luck! I have chronic toe pain and it is no fun.

I'm not trying to score any GAC benefits or anything.

Don't worry you wouldn't get any. The GAC has been replaced with the DAS and now all but a few rides have lines that are accessible.

Hope his foot feels better.

I broke my little toe years ago a day before we left for a trip to N.O. & let me say I am a WHIMP! lol. But I kept it taped up to the next toe, loosened up my nike's & shoved my foot in it. I walked all over the French Quarter, etc. (with uneven side walks, etc.) for 3 days and I was fine. No problems what so ever. He should be fine, I wouldn't worry about it too much. :flower3:

I went to Disney one year just a few days after breaking two toes - my little toe on one foot, any my 2nd toe on the other foot. My husband convinced me to tape my toes and wear my tennis shoes and I almost died from the pain. The thing that helped me to walk easier was wearing flip flops - they allowed my broken toes some extra space. The only thing with flip flops is making sure that your toe doesn't get stepped on in the crowds :sad2:

My toes hurt for the first couple of days of the trip (the Universal portion), but my the time we got to Disney (a week post toe breaks), and I was almost back to normal. I do agree with the resting, icing and elevating the toe. I did not need any special GAC or wheelchair or anything. I just went with the flow and had a great time!

He's currently being all tough guy and won't go to a doctor. Eye roll.

That probably doesn't matter. Unless it were some strange break they would just try and tape it to the toe next to it and suggest wearing comfortable shoes until healed. I've had 3 broken little toes (horses), one broken 4th toe (clumsy me barefoot and kicking a step) and one broken big toe (motorcyle without steel toed boots). The big toe is the worst. The others become manageable when you are able to just wear sandals but walking fast won't be an option. By the second broken little toe I stopped trying to tape it - it just didn't provide much help IMO because of being an outside toe. Taping works best on the "inside" toes.

Bummer! And it will hurt probably for 2-3 weeks and be tender for longer than that but manageable.

I assume he works and has contributed money toward this vacation?

"Honey, I know you don't want to postpone the vacation. But we have to do everything we can to make sure you and we are not miserable and feel like we have wasted our money. For me (or for the kids) I want you to go to the doctor before we leave. I don't want you to make anything worse. And when we get there, I will rent you a scooter. I don't want to hear you be macho about it..I don't want you to be miserable or have to take the kids around by myself because you are in pain."

People have mentioned various alternatives like wheelchairs and ECVs, but no one has mentioned the last resort...a TOE truck:duck:

This is my 7 year olds favorite (and first!) joke!

'Who do you call when you hurt your toe?'
'The TOE truck!'

Sorry OP - I hope you can convince him not to be macho. I don't think there would be much the doctor can do but maybe he can get some better pain relief and also make sure there are no concerns about blood clots/travel.

The complimentary onsite resort chairs are usually reserved for issues that occur while you are at the resort. No one should show up at a resort expecting to get a free wheelchair, as they are first come/first served, and not always in the best of shape, or the right size, either.

If I was going to WDW and knew I had a mobility issue, I'd make sure I had what I needed before I got there.

For what it's worth, I never said anyone "should show up at a resort expecting to get a free wheelchair". Please don't assume I am promoting "freebies". If a chair is available, the resort will gladly help as was our experience. When my family inquired about a chair for DH, the resort was very accommodating and never once questioned whether or not we arrived knowing we had a need or not. On the other hand, when visiting with my mom, we rented an electric scooter for 8 days! Which by the way I also did mention to the poster was an option.

I fractured my ankle in NYC and still mangaged to hobble my way around.

And ace bandage, and some good pain killers (okay and booze) went a long way.

Nothing you can do for a broken toe. I broke two several years ago and I even went to a doctor. They taped the toes together and that was it. On tip of that, I was a ballet dancer at the time and I still had to rehearse/perform 2+hours a day. Sure it hurt but the doctor said I could dance without causing further damage. I think he'll be fine in a few days.

I just have to chime in with a "I broke something before a big trip" story. My older sister broke her leg a week before a trip to France back in 2001. We rented a wheel chair at a pharmacy in the heart of Paris (my french, learned in Canada came in handy there for that conversation) and pushed her around Paris for two weeks. We carried that wheel chair up and down the Metro stairs, pushed it over cobble stones at Versailles and other historical sites and she hobbled on crutches anywhere we couldn't bring the chair. If we could bring my sister to Montmartre and all those stairs, you can bring a broken toe to the most accommodating vacation location on the planet. With no problems what so ever. Good Luck!
