OT - How is Connor doing? ...

I hope this isn't a dumb question: Do you folks in other states have the Purple Heart license plates or is that just California only? {ETA: I just googled and other states do seem to have them as well, but I don't know if ALL have them.}

Regardless, I think the people who have these plates deserve stuff, like, special parking, the ability to cut in front of me (Ok, well, I always let them), and maybe even handicap parking if there are ample spaces.

Me too, loved it. Thanks for sharing it. You've inspired me. :)

DD needs to "interview" a WWII veteran for American History. I think she'll be enlightened/inspired also. :)

I love stories like these! We met a couple like that in wdw while on our honeymoon.:goodvibes

Aw, that is such a sweet story! I have a friend who was a WWII fighter pilot, I think he will be 89 this December. He owned a company I purchased from and up until a couple years ago he called on the company I worked for every Monday looking spiffy in hand tailored suits & ties for over 50 years. The new president had only one meeting with him and was so impressed he had a plane made out of wood and painted just like he flew, my friend carried that plane to show everyone, made his day. I missed him so much when he had a heart issues and had to quit driving & working-in his late 80s! I loved hearing his stories, totally an amazing man. I need to call his daughter and set up a visit soon, thank you for the reminder!

Unfortunately, we are losing our WWII, Korea and Viet Nam vets at an increasing rate as they grow older. We need to take time to listen to their stories.

My father was a forward observer in the Army in WWII. 14th Armored Divison. Entered Europe thru Marseilles and moved into the fighting in Southern Bavaria. We are fotunate to have all the letters he wrote home an the photos he took while he was there. He never spoke much about the war. His unit liberated a concentration camp and my brother and I believe that what he saw there affected him so deeply that he would not speak of it. A couple of the pictures I have from him show a bunch of men in business suits with shovels in their hands...on the back dad wrote: "German business men digging a mass grave."

Dad passed in 1991, the year before my son was born. He was laid to rest with military honors, and since I was on active duty at the time, I was privileged to hold salute over my father as the American Legion rendered a gun salute and the bugler played Taps. I presented his flag to my mother, and one day I will inherit that flag.

Treasure our veterans of all of our wars, and those who served during peace time to protect our rights and way of life.

Thanks for the story. I love to hear things like that.

Kristen
