Just when you think you've seen the oddest of human behavior, someone lowers the bar yet again!!!!

Last night I was in our local large chain grocery store, right at closing time. There was a middle-aged woman(probably mid to late 60's) who stepped into line behind me. They opened up anothe regiter, and the guy called for the next person in line, who was me. Mind you, we had been waiting all of about 3 minutes.

So I am checking out, and this woman starts yammering about how she's been waiting 20 minutes and she wants to see the store manager and this is ridiculous...yadda...yadda...yadda. She was getting on my nerves...it was late, I was tired, my stomach hurt...so I fiinally turned around and looked at her and said "I don't know what your deal is lady, but you're lying. You have been waiting all of maybe 5 minutes. You got into line behind me, and I can guarantee yo it hasn't been anywhere near 20 minutes." She goes on about wanting the store manager etc. So I finish up my order and leave, and she follows me out to the car to yell at me for intejecting because "don't you know that if you complain enough at that grocery store, they give you free stuff"? My response "Oh, so you're a liar and a thief."

I actually called the store manager from my cell phone to tell him not to give her any free stuff because of what she said to me. He said he had given her the name of their headquarters, but nothing free, thank God.

The world is full of nuts and beaters, who will try and beat people out of stuff because they think they deserve it more than the next guy.

Sounds like my neighbor, make a stink and you might "get something". He actually asked to speak to the manager when he and his family stayed at POFQ because "he wasn't impressed with their landscaping", "the grounds weren't well kept" according to him. :teeth: BTW, you should see his impressive landscaping. :teeth:

Yes, I have met people that almost seem to hope something goes wrong on a trip, because they know how to stomp their feet just right and get compensation. My favorite story was a woman I knew who walked into her new hotel room to find someone there. She managed to get compensated for two nights! Some people just know how to work it.

But as an aside, why is it that all the people breathing down your neck, muttering and complaining about the lines are retired people! They have all the time in the world. I feel like saying "just where are you going after this that you can't wait a few more minutes?" Like they need to get back to work or pick up their child at the bus stop. I thought you got more patience as you get old, but that is not what I see in real life. Anyway, good for you for speaking up, Disney Doll!

My explanation for this is maybe you just stop feeling well as you get older. Maybe waiting in line is harder and maybe just feeling bad all the time makes you cranky. I've tried to have a bit more patience with them since I came up with this theory.

Oh gosh! When I worked at the Marriott, I saw so many crazy people complaining about the most ridicules things just to get "something" free, and most of them did, free breakfast, marriott points, bill adjusments on phone calls "they didn't know the charge" bcs they didn't read the phone charges info, I remember one lady that was yelling at the general manager because she had ironed her dress and burned but she blamed on the cleaners, they called the cleaners guy and he said that they didn't use and iron for dry cleaning, it was a whole fiasco right at the front desk, after an hour of arguing, the manager told her that she would pay for the dress but she need it the dress, and the lady didn't wanted to gave up the dress but she wanted the money, at the end she kept the dress, no money was paid, but she got a comp night, about 20K marriott points, free breakfast and concierge access. She was a big time B word.
