Four years ago, I lost my Grandma also on Dec 23. She would have been 94 two days later on Christmas Day.

Thank you all for your kind words. We are coping well as we enjoy each others' stories about Grandma and Papa and Christmases with them.

I am sorry to hear of your loss...Somehow loss during the holidays seems harder.
Had your GM been ill or was this sudden?

Grandma was diagnosed with congestive heart failure about a year ago. She came down with pnuemonia in early October and never recovered. The CHF and pnuemonia were competing illnesses; i.e., treat one, and the other becomes worse. Finally, when the doc ordered a feeding tube on Dec 8, her advance directive and living will overruled.

While we can point all all these medical reasons for her passing, I believe she died of a broken heart. Grandma spent the last 28 months growing increasingly depressed living without Papa. She told me several times that she wanted "to be with him." I asked if she meant that she wanted him back and she just answered, "no, I want to be with him."

Theirs was a very powerful love story. 65 years of all the blessings a marriage can bring.
