My goal is to lose 40lbs this year.

Wow, what an inspirational story! I am SO glad that it was a minor heart attack, and doubly glad that you realized that changes needed to be made! I should have you come talk to certain members of MY family! ;)

Congratulations on your weight loss and life changes; here's hoping you never have to experience the bed of an ICU ever again! :thumbsup2

Hi! I would like to lose 40 pounds of my "baby weight" (weight I gained while being pregnant. I have to eat a gluten free diet for health reasons and already see that as a challenge. I am hoping that it just becomes a way of life ans not a struggle.

Good luck to everyone!!

Down 1.6 this week. Was hoping for more but like brerrabbit said I am aiming for a lifestyle change. Slow and steady.

Congrats to everyone. There is progress being made.

I love 3 lbs this week!!!!! :cheer2: Counting calories is the way to go for me. I also added exercise this week. So I am now feeling the burn plus watching my intake.

Lets Keep it UP:yay:

That's a great idea. I'm going to stake out a drawer today and get those in there. We have an air popper and it's on the counter all the time. Most nights I make some and use the spritz margarine to put on it for some flavor.

Do you have a deep drawer in your kitchen? I would throw the snacks that you dont want to eat in there. I threw anything that would tempt me into a snack drawer and I forget its even there. I automatically go for the pantry and the fridge so I keep healthy snacks handy there. I dont know about you but I love popcorn! I found a microwave popcorn bowl at Target, you just put 1/3 cup raw popcorn in it and microwave it for 2 minutes. Even if I melt a tablespoon of butter over it I still waind up way ahead in the snack category! Its easier than dragging out the popper and getting that all ready and its healthier than whatever the crap is they put in the microwave popcorn bags :)

Thank you for sharing your story! I'm sorry you had a heart attack at such a young age. I think your story hit hard with me. I think I'm going to workout right now. I'll on Demand a workout. Thank you so much. I hope I can change my lifestyle like you did without having to go as far as a heart attack.

I have dieted off and on for many years and had great success only to give it away by gaining it all back.

That all changed pretty dramatically for me on December 28, 2009. After eating dinner at our favorite Chinese place I went home with what I thought was indigestion. An hour later the pain was worse and I was on the way to the emergency room. After an EKG, a nitroglycerin patch and 4 childrens aspirin the Doctor said he did not think it was my heart but wanted to keep me over night for observation and do a stress test in the morning. After a sleepless night in a hospital room I asked the nurse if they had scheduled the stress test because I was on vacation till January 4th and wanted to get out of there as soon as I could. Her response changed my life forever, she said, your not going home, your going to ICU, you had a heart attack.

Well a bunch of needles, IV's, pills, and a heart cathiter later I was laying in a bed in ICU trying to come to grips with the fact that at the age of 50 I had had a heart attack. Fortunately it was mild and did little if any damage and other than the one artery that was clogged the others looked good.

So I have embarked on not a diet, but rather a lifestyle change. I am quick to point out to all my friends, family and coworkers that I am not on a diet, but rather have change my lifestyle. Since then I have lost 25 pounds, which is a lot but more an indication to me of how bad I was eating rather than being unhealthy by losing to much to fast. I eat virtully no fat, very little sodium, and portions are now more reasonable. I walk, have a stair stepper and a weight machine that have had the dust knocked off them and get a lot more use these days.

I offer this story not to scare people but rather as a learning experience that while dieting is good, lifstyle changes are better. I have always been a big guy. I played football into college, I played Lacrosse, baseball, softball and was very active. My weight was all over the board and that took a toll on my heart. My wish for all of you is that you don't look at what your doing as a diet but rather a lifestyle change for the better. Proper eating, exercise, and all things in moderation is my new lifestyle. I hope you all do great things and meet and maintain your goals because if your like me,(and I'm sure you are because your posting on the DIS) you have alot more trips to WDW to take before I leave this world.

how awesome. This morning I had multigrain Cheerios with blueberries. YUM! My first time buying the multigrain. I'm hooked now. That was my first change. I'm trying to cut out some foods while trying new healthy ones.

I agree with slow and steady.. I look it it this way. I didnt pack on all of these pounds overnight. My goal is 60 by august for my disney trip. Overall I need to lose at least 100. so far I have lost 14 pounds. I started doing low carb the beginning of the month. Its the one thing I can do and stick with. I do need to increase my water start exercising.

I've recently started on the same path and I started a blog to track our progress. I've found it is another way to hold myself accountable. I've got a small following and posting everyday keeps me on track. If you enjoy writing, you might try it! We just started out but for the first time I can see the changes we're making as lifestyle changes.

Thanks, I'll be reading your blog. I don't think I'm ready to blog yet, but might try in the future.

Bumping this thread back up.

Weigh in today was good. Down 2 lbs. Little by little. :cool1:

How is everyone else doing?

:woohoo:

Had my follow-up appointment with my doctor this morning; what a WONDERFUL appointment it was!! :cool1: I'm down 28 lbs so far; 34 to go to get within the allowable parameters for donating a lobe of my liver :thumbsup2 My blood pressure and heart rate were both excellent, down from last appointment, and the response from the front desk clerk and my doctor when they saw me was SOOO gratifying, I can't even begin to tell you!! :lovestruc

Hoping I can really ramp things up and wipe out these extra 34 pounds as quick as I safely can, so I can get mom what she needs!!

I am down 21 lbs so far only 80 to go....agghh I was just exercising but added Weight Watchers to it now.. moving faster with that.

Down only a half pound today. I'm very happy with that considering the weather has really cut into walking the dog. Today was the first really safe day to do it since last Sat:sad2: I wanna move back to PA just because they know how to plow up there. Also had my monthly appt. with gaining weight and I'm thrilled to have lost any at all.

On the exercise end of things I was off the wagon for the weekend. Work weekends tucker me out. Got back into my routine last night and should be smooth sailing through the weekend.

Was watching QVC this afternoon and they had Stephanie Huckabee for a half hr hocking her Powerfit DVDs. Well, after a quick check on my video site i went ahead and bought it. I really liked her after that half hr. And I definitely need to add something new to my collection so check goes in the mail today and videos should be here next week sometime. Got a great deal, Intro price + free shipping. :thumbsup2 I'll report back when I get started on that series.

I started the Wii Active 2 1/2 weeks ago and so far so good. The first couple of times it was really sore but not so much now. There was even 1 day I did a couple of extra exercises after the 30 day challenge one. Tonight I am starting tap classes. :upsidedow. The class is adults only and has less than 10 in the class so should be OK but we'll see. I haven't done anything like that in 25 years.

I don't have a Wii, but I'll admit that after playing it at my parents' house I'm starting to want 1. Probably won't get 1 though. There are bigger needs on the list. Tapping sounds like fun. I don't think I'm brave enough to try a dance class. Let us know how it goes:thumbsup2

Darsa: So glad you're doing really well. Just make sure you're not trying to kill yourself while you lose weight. I really don't think the vast majority of us are cut out to lose weight at the BL cycles.

Melisazack: You can do the 101:thumbsup2 By the time i lost this 40 that's about how much I'll have lost altogether.

Hey all.
Glad to see some updates on here.
I haven't lost anything this week which really kinda upset me because I am counting EVERY calorie and I started working out this week.

I got the Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred this weekend and WOW is it a great workout. I was exhausted 6 minutes into the workout. LOL.

Keep up the great work.

I started the 30 day shred as well and it kicked my butt. I checked my weight and gained . My DH tried to cheer me up and tell me it was a muscle gain but it does make me want to give up. I took a day off from Jillian since I was so sore and did Walk away the Pounds today though.

Oh goodness, I went to hungrygirl.com today and found a recipe for Alfredo using noodles made with Tofu. The nutritional info was intriguing so we tried it tonight. The cheesy sauce was fantastic... the noodles... the texture was HORRIBLE!! I can't even describe it; they looked and felt kinda like ramen noodles, but when you bit into it :crazy2:

Not gonna give up tho; gonna keep trying those healthy recipes! :thumbsup2
