My goal is to lose 40lbs this year.

I am def not a fan of hungrygirl, I tried some of her recipes and she uses too many artificial & chemical type ingredients. I also made the mistake of trying tose gross noodles she recommends for the ALfredo. Ick, Stay away from those.

Some of her recipes are good, but I try to stay away from all the chemicals.

Ok, you have all inspired me and I would love to jump on your bandwagon!! I would love to lose 50 pounds this year. I have re-started exercising and we are trying to make better choices in the eating dept.

I loved the tip of weighing in on the Wii Fit!

Here goes.....

To each, their own. I really like the Tofu Shirataki noodles. It also depends on on what your goals are for "healthy". Organic, whole foods? Low-fat, low-cal? A combo of both? I like that she provides substitutions of a lot of really bad for you foods.

You sound like me...sort of. I want to eat more clean. I have one of the eating clean cookbooks by Tosca Reno. Some of her ingredients are hard to find and extremely expensive, but I try to pick as many as I can in my budget.

Get your exercise in today!!!!! Remember You're important!

I need to go on the Wishes threads to find information on Weight Watchers and do something close to the core diet. Do they even have that anymore?

I'm so glad you started this thread and we can be there for each other.

I did WW several years ago and have been on other diets through the years. I have lost a lot of weight but have always gained it back and then some. In the past week I had an enlightening moment. I finally realized I cannot eat the same way as other people. My body and metabolism can't handle all the sweets I like and the other foods I like. Having them in small portions occasionally is OK but not like I was. In the past as soon as I would lose the weight I would go back to eating like I used too.

I have made the decision to make our house more healthy not just for me but for DH and DD too.

I think you're going about it the best way.
What I plan on doing is finding a way to balance and it's really hard. I would love to throw out stuff that's unhealthy, but DH would have a cow. The kids would come around eventually...I think. :rotfl:

I'm decluttering now in the laundry room and hope to do the pantry this weekend. It would be nice to get rid of the junk food, so I can fill it with more nutritious foods.

Do you have a deep drawer in your kitchen? I would throw the snacks that you dont want to eat in there. I threw anything that would tempt me into a snack drawer and I forget its even there. I automatically go for the pantry and the fridge so I keep healthy snacks handy there. I dont know about you but I love popcorn! I found a microwave popcorn bowl at Target, you just put 1/3 cup raw popcorn in it and microwave it for 2 minutes. Even if I melt a tablespoon of butter over it I still waind up way ahead in the snack category! Its easier than dragging out the popper and getting that all ready and its healthier than whatever the crap is they put in the microwave popcorn bags :)

Hi everybody:wave:

I'm always surprised when to see a thread I start take on a life of its own. And its awesome that y'all are joining in.

My report thus far: Went back to work Thurs. after my vacation finished up. Too much to do that day so no workout. Yesterday was a normal day, work then home. So after being home and checking email for a bit I did a half hour workout.

Right now for working out I am using a dvd: 10 Minute Solutions on the Ball. I LOVE working out with a stability ball, it has really gotten me in a good way. This dvd has a bunch of different sections. Core(Abs), Cardio, Upper Body, Lower Body and a Flexibity(stretch) section. As my old habits always used to be to concentrate on the core and Upper body I am switching it around. My upper body is fairly strong and my job has me lifting stuff throughout the week so right now I am concentrating on the Lower body and the Core pairing each with the flexibility program. I will say it used to be too dificult to do the Lower body section with a carpet, but after replacing it with floors last spring I just really never buckled down and turned it into a habit. Now, I am working on that. Does still take some adjusting cause of a low ceiling but its much easier to do.

When I got back into it this week I realized that I did not have enough of a warm up section so right now I am doing a sandwich. Flexibility b4 and after each main workout. And that's helping quite a bit. Since Thurs. was an off day at some point today I will be doing the lower body and tomorrow will be back to the Core. I have some other DVDs in mind for switching it up and probably after taxes are filed I will be looking into starting step aerobics. Had thought about doing it now, but I'm just gonna work on getting into the workout habit and progress as we go.

And I signed up for the Hungry Girl emails. I'll give it a shot and see how that goes. Did look into Cook Yourself Thin last night. They charge for site membership and I'm not gonna bother with that, though i may buy the cookbook. We'll see.

Have a great weekend everybody:banana:

Oh FYI

If anybody is looking for workout videos I get mine from Collage video.com They have all the videos that work and a great return policy.

Ok time for breakfast.:hippie:

I think I'm going to try to use my Wii fit more. I know I shouldn't be discouraged but I didn't loose any weight this week. I hate when I have weeks like that.

I'm going to try to boost my water intake and see if that helps. I can't wait for it to get warmer so I can get outside and take walks with the boys!

I actually ate more tonight than I've eaten in one sitting since I started this diet; two pieces of ham, about 1/2 cup of butternut squash, and an apple sliced and dipped in a bit of PB. I'm uncomfortable now!! :guilty: Never thought that so little food would make me feel sooo full...

That's a good sign!

Good morning

8 days into this goal and we're skating right along. I have officially lost 2.5lbs, not the 3 you see in the ticker. Apparently they like to round it up. Workouts have been accomplished on 6 of the past 8. I am going for a goal of 5 workouts this week(starting back from Mon.) We'll see how that goes. I already know Sat. will be an off day workout wise. Got work and then church and I don't usually find a place to fit 1 in. Might possibly get 1 in next Sun. but we'll see.

So how are y'all doing? Don't be shy. Jump on in if you haven't yet.

The stupid scale at the gym... I think it hates me!! It hasn't moved down for about 5 days now, and I'm getting SO FRUSTRATED, since I'm doing everything re eating and exercising right. :headache: I know I shouldn't be weighing myself every day, but I can't walk past that blargety thing without it drawing me in...

On the other hand, I went to JC Penney last night, and was trying on pants. It was AWESOME; I had to go out twice to find a smaller size, and when I found some that fit, I was all  :cool1: :cheer2:. Just like that, right in the fitting room :) I also spent some time marveling at my back; the mirrors are placed so you can see your back, and I was amazed at how much less fat it looked. :thumbsup2

Way to go!

I have weigh in at 11:30 so we'll see. I did well this week watching my points and started the 30 day challenge on the Wii Active last Thurs. The workouts are really good. I was surprised at how much I can feel them the next day. My scale at home shows a loss but we'll see what the WW scale says.

Great thread!

I am pregnant and have gestational diabetes. The first week that I changed my diet I lost 5 lbs and haven't put any more on. The doctor said that first week most people lose a lot of water due to less sodium intake.

I eat low carb/low glycemic food and combine my carbs with protein. My husband and I menu plan and this is key...I have to be organized...know what I am going to have to eat the next day and make sure everything is ready to go in the fridge. DH has lost 7 lbs this month because of the switch and he isn't following what I am doing 100%.

I exercise but it is only about 30 min/day on the eliptical. It's too icy to walk outside where I am. The diabetes clinic told me to exercise after eating to try and divert the glucose to my muscles instead of my blood stream.

I hope to continue as much of this as I can after baby so that I lose some weight. Before pregnancy I was 236lbs and not healthy. Right now I am 250.

My girlfriend is doing P390x and is trying to follow the menu plan as well.

I have dieted off and on for many years and had great success only to give it away by gaining it all back.

That all changed pretty dramatically for me on December 28, 2009. After eating dinner at our favorite Chinese place I went home with what I thought was indigestion. An hour later the pain was worse and I was on the way to the emergency room. After an EKG, a nitroglycerin patch and 4 childrens aspirin the Doctor said he did not think it was my heart but wanted to keep me over night for observation and do a stress test in the morning. After a sleepless night in a hospital room I asked the nurse if they had scheduled the stress test because I was on vacation till January 4th and wanted to get out of there as soon as I could. Her response changed my life forever, she said, your not going home, your going to ICU, you had a heart attack.

Well a bunch of needles, IV's, pills, and a heart cathiter later I was laying in a bed in ICU trying to come to grips with the fact that at the age of 50 I had had a heart attack. Fortunately it was mild and did little if any damage and other than the one artery that was clogged the others looked good.

So I have embarked on not a diet, but rather a lifestyle change. I am quick to point out to all my friends, family and coworkers that I am not on a diet, but rather have change my lifestyle. Since then I have lost 25 pounds, which is a lot but more an indication to me of how bad I was eating rather than being unhealthy by losing to much to fast. I eat virtully no fat, very little sodium, and portions are now more reasonable. I walk, have a stair stepper and a weight machine that have had the dust knocked off them and get a lot more use these days.

I offer this story not to scare people but rather as a learning experience that while dieting is good, lifstyle changes are better. I have always been a big guy. I played football into college, I played Lacrosse, baseball, softball and was very active. My weight was all over the board and that took a toll on my heart. My wish for all of you is that you don't look at what your doing as a diet but rather a lifestyle change for the better. Proper eating, exercise, and all things in moderation is my new lifestyle. I hope you all do great things and meet and maintain your goals because if your like me,(and I'm sure you are because your posting on the DIS) you have alot more trips to WDW to take before I leave this world.
