My goal is to lose 40lbs this year.

If you haven't checked out SparkPeople.com, there are some great resources and support systems there. Very cool site.

As for rewards, I try to treat myself with things like new nail polish or lipstick, jewelry, massages, a new movie...nothing with food!!!

Oh wow - what a timely thread!

I am trying...no I am GOING to lose 60 pounds this year. I have already lost 10, so I am very encouraged, but sometimes, looking at how far there is to go is so disheartening. (especially since I was just 20 pounds from my goal weight when I fell last summer, and my doctor forbid me to even walk on my treadmill, because I couldn't hold on, and if I fell again I could have ended up permanently disabled, and I gained 40 pounds in 6 months :sad1: )

Anyway, I'm on my dinner break and they're serving chicken and dumplin's in the cafeteria, which are to die for.

I was so tempted, but I read this thread, and the stories of your successes inspired me to be strong and eat the healthy dinner I brought and stay away from the carb and calorie-laden comfort food. :goodvibes I was thinking the very negative "well, it's SO many months before my goal can be reached anyway, just eating this one thing won't be such a big deal" but I know it is. And every day, there is something new to tempt.

I guess I need to visit the WISH board, too, but I'll try to keep up with this thread. It is easier when someone is in that same boat with you.

join us in the Biggest Loser Season 9 challenge on the WISH boards here at the DIS!

You can do this!!

Ok, I'm in. PMed and joined in the thread. So now we'll see how much i can accomplish by the finish date. I have to fool around with my sig and add the clippie. Change flair pieces etc.

Good for you! You CAN do it if you make up your mind. Just be sure your goals are realistic. No "I'm gonna lose a billion pounds by next thursday". Then Thursday comes and--surprise!--you only lost a pound. Time to break out the Haagen Daz.

I hit my all-time high last April, well over 200-lbs. I developed type 2 diabetes. Nothing like a serious life-threatening illness to get my attention.:scared1: Since then I have lost 44-lbs through a combination of Weight Watchers, exercise and old fashioned calorie counting and low carbs. I have about 44-lbs to go and I anticipate it might take me an additional 9 months. I lose slowly, about a pound a week. Some weeks it's a lot more, 3-4-lbs. Then the next week it will be 1/2 a pound or even gain a pound. You can't let that frustrate you so much that you quit though.

A couple things that I do to reward myself. I celebrate every 10-lbs with a big announcement to the friends and family who care about it. I have bought a few cute tops in my smaller size. I had a pedicure. And the best one is I GIVE AWAY MY FAT CLOTHES! The only thing I'm keeping is one pair of gigantic panties. I keep them in my closet and I see them every single day. Not a pretty sight, let me tell you.

Today I bought some things at the thrift store--I don't want to invest in a lot of clothes just yet. And I was so surprised to find that i needed a much lower size! I'm down to a Large now. And a 16 in pants! Down from a high of 24 last spring! :yay::yay:

Have some long term goals and short term goals and celebrate every goal with something other than food. Start doing things now that you want to do when you lose the weight. And find a few people in your life who will be excited for you and supportive while you're dropping the pounds.

Don't give up! :dance3:

The good news is that i am NOT at my all time high. But i set this goal because I bought a pair of pants that fit me everywhere except the waist. They actually button I just can't tuck anything in or sit in them for long periods of time. But if i lose about an inch around my middle then problem solved. But i really should lose more than an inch because every time i try on clothes and see my legs in a full length mirror I just go OMG:scared1:

So even though I'm not unhappy with my weight, I am unhappy with my thunder thighs. So we're going to be doing something about those in the near future. They will be the hardest.

But anyway, I've been on Spark people b4 and it just didn't thrill me so this time I'm trying my fitness.com (See the ticker)and we'll see how that goes. I also blasted this goal on FB and hopefully, with 120 friends i can get at least 10 of them to keep me honest.

Good for you - you could set a short term goal of getting rid of that inch, and treat yourself to something small and then keep working on your long term goals.

Just got back from my first weigh in. Down 2.2lbs!!!:cool1: Its not much but every little bit counts.

I love this. Setting goals and making it public is a great way to be held accountable.
I have lost 24 lbs since Thanksgiving and I WILL lose 37 more before this year is up.

I need to head over to the WISH boards.

great job everyone!

How is everyone doing with cooking? I am modifying everything I can and trying to sneak nutrition in everywhere when no one is looking LOL.

I love to cook so this is the easy part for me, but it does take a lot of adjustments!
I made my new ticker, I dont know about that goal, I would be happy with 50 but its what Im aiming for right now.

So far since Dec12 (my new life start date) I am down 13 pounds!

:woohoo: That's awesome!!!
Thanks :) I am taking advantage of moving to a new place and starting a whole new life. I have been away from the computer more, spending a lot more fun time with my kids (not doing schoolwork), and getting out and enjoying life more. I have a new attitude and I am determined to make this fresh start work for me!

Hi there! I've had a rough year so I totally got off track with losing weight. i had lost 25 lbs, gained a bit back but kept most of it off since last summer. Now I want to drop a bit more and I suppose this is as good a place to find support as any. My biggest draw back is that my workout partner had dropped out on me so now it's just me. This thread already has a good effect because it reminded me I am supposed to go back to my P90 today. First I will post on my My Fitness Pal and then work out. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction:goodvibes

YAY to everybody making fresh starts with me:dance3:

The more on the train the merrier. Anyhow, I'm hopping back on the exercise wagon and boy do I need work on my lower half. Yes i knew this b4, but after doing my workout I realize that it worse than I thought.

Today I did my stability ball dvd for Lower body and flexibility and my was my lower back unhappy about that. It wanted to freeze up after the lower body section and just quit. The flexibility brought it back, but i really didn't think it would protest as much as it did. So I must really concentrate on getting my lower half in gear.

Tomorrow, its back to work which means on my feet all day walking and so forth. And at some point tomorrow I'll get an Abs workout in on my dvd and the flexibility. And we'll work on Upper body later on after i have the others down.

Good job Lorna!

For heavens sake! As soon as I hit send my phone rang and a DF called freaking out that her dog got out of the house and could I help her look for it. Well I found the seeing eye pup in training and she had me in for tea but no workout and no entry for my fitness pal... :sad2: tomorrow is another day.

:cool1: Congratulations on your weight loss!! You're really cruisin'! :thumbsup2

I would like to second the hungrygirl.com recommendation; I've only been there a short while, but I love it so far! Some of the recipes sound positively sinful, but the nutritional info makes you feel a LOT less guilty

I would love to join in. I have 50 lbs to lose. I've been taking care of my mom and my family and have neglected myself. DH wants to go to bed now, so I'll update more info tomorrow.

I love the Hungry Girl! I have both of her cookbooks and just bought the ingredients to make the danishes! Glad to hear they turned out so well.
