So my personal goal is to qualify for the 2014 Boston Marathon. For me this means a 3:35 and personally I hope to get either at Philly in Nov. or Disney in January. I was close prior to my nearly year long break from running (in which I did a lot of pilates and yoga so I'm not completely out of shape). My last half showed me I have a bit of work to get back in shape, but I'm optimistic that seeing as I still ran a sub 2 hour 1/2 on less than 25 miles per week with a max long run of 8 miles, that it is quite possible to get my fitness back.
Any one else trying to BQ? I'd love to have a place to discuss the trials and tribulations that go with this lofty goal.
If I'm alone in this goal, I'd definitely appreciate all the support. I know how great the WISH team can be about supporting each others goals.
My first step is building up my base.
My test races will be:
Big D Texas Half April 15 (shooting for sub 1:50; possibly sub-1:45)
*RnR St. Louis October 21 (sub-1:45; hopefully back in sub 1:40 PR range, not sure about the exact race but looking for early October-ish)
ToT Ten Miler September 29 (shooting for sub 1:20; sub-8 splits)

I'm with you on that goal. My goal is to qualify. I have to have a 3:10 in order to do so. I run my first marathon this Sunday. I'm hoping for around a 3:25, but being my first, who knows exactly how it will finish. I've run 4 Half's this year and all around the 1:35 mark, so I'm great position to attempt this goal. I've definitely been putting the miles in the last 3 months, and have a 2nd marathon in April. I really hope to get my qualifying time at either Savannah in November if I run that one, or at Disney in 2013. Those courses are fairly flat where as the Georgia Marathon I'm running Saturday is quite hilly along with Nashville Country Music Marathon in April. Good luck with your goal and stay in touch along with your progress. It is nice to chat with someone else with the same goal. You should be right in the thick of things once you get your base.

Go ahead and start that thread or change the name of this one. It will be fun to follow!!!

My goal for 2012 is a BQ also. I need a 3:05. I spent the winter changing how I lift and my diet a bit to drop 10 pounds. So far this spring my training times have been the fastest they've ever been. I am also going to start running with a local group of friends who have all qualified for Boston at one time or another.

My first race of the season is a local 5K on St. Patrick's day but from April 28th through May 27th I will be doing a local 10 Miler (Hermes for those in Cleveland) and two halves...the Flying Pig in Cincinnati and Buffalo. I am not sure yet how I will run the 10 miler or Cincinnati but baring injury I am hoping to PR in Buffalo with a sub 1:26.

Good luck with the training and a BQ thread would be pretty cool.
