Wow, what a great trip!!
There were 6 of us total, From 27 yrs to 47.
The weather was great!! Never over 85. Sunny and warm until the last couple days then it was overcast but still comfortable. Maybe even better.
Sunday was the most crowded day, but strangely enough to me, Wed was pretty crowded too.
We met a lot of nice people from Australia. We noticed a lot of them by listening. It must be a good time for them to get away. Thanks to the nice family that rode GRR with us. You were a hoot!!!
We stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites. I have to say we were all very happy with it. The beds were firm but comfortable. It was very clean and had fresh paint. Good size refrigerators and a microwave. The staff was very accommodating. And we couldn’t beat the price. A family suite (2 rooms) for 119.00 a night. Directly across the street too.
We were on a budget trip, so when we flew into LGB( I would fly in and out of there again. It’s small and easy to navigate. No crowds, just walk off the plane, grab bags and walk across the street to get your car. Delightful!) we hopped in our minivan and headed off to Costco. There we got pre-made sandwiches on croissants and some vegies and amazingly cheap gin ;-) Seriously, Tanqueray in Oregon is way more. Then we stopped at trader Joe’s for coffee, juice, cream and yogurt. But I have to say our best buy was a 12 cup coffee maker at Target. $19.99. That’s equals the cost of about one coffee each. Genius!!! We had delicious coffee every morning ready when we woke up.
Every afternoon we would go back to the room and have a sandwich and a rest, so we could go for the rest of the evening. We ate dinner out every night. It was so fun. Mostly counter service, although we did have a late lunch at BB and I had the Monte Cristo. Not as delish as I had remembered, but pretty good and such a fun atmosphere.
Our most amazing meal was the Sunday brunch and Bloody Mary Bar at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen in DTD. I had the Crab Cakes Benedict. Delicious. We sat outside and had great service too.
Funny story… One of our fun loving group had gotten into a “sword fight” with a couple of cute little pirates in the store outside of PoTC. We all have to use the bathroom so she decides to head down to the water to wait for us. So we all catch up and one of us notices that she has something hanging from her belt loop. HAHA!! It was a sword. When she realized that she had absconded with a plastic sword, it was sort of like a cartoon. She took a double take an started running back to the gift shop! She managed to put it back without a scene. It kept us laughing for days.
As for the ride overlays, I sort of liked Space mt but wasn’t impressed with HM. Although I must admit that I haven’t seen that movie. I’m sure that would make all the difference.
I’ve never gotten as wet on Splash Mt. We were soaked!!! Good thing we were staying close.
Also, on day one, I was waiting for everyone while they went on the tea cups. (I just can’t do it) I see a little girl, maybe two, stand with her legs as far apart as she can get them and pee through her tights. Yikes! When her mom noticed, she was mortified. There’s no stopping a peeing 2 yr old once they get started. My days of little kids are long past, and I’m so OK with that…..
On day 5, I saw another kid pee in his pull ups and then strip before one of us tapped his very tired mom on the shoulder and pointed it out. Another mortified mom. That’s life with kids
Good stuff if it’s not happening to you…LOL
I hope to do another girl’s trip someday. We made some great memories.

I'm glad to hear your part on LGB airport. I just booked a flight and we'll be landing there. I've never been to that airport so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I prefer smaller airports (Burbank, John Wayne, etc...) over huge ones like LAX so it's a relief to hear that it will be easy to navigate.

I think at LGB there are only 5 gates. There are two in one building and 3 in the other building. You deplane onto the tarmac. Baggage claim is about 20 or 30 steps away. Super small and easy to find your way around. We love it!
