shaking head in embarassment smilie...I do fight for what I believe in! I was just plain wrong! I guess everyone needs to be humbled on occasion!

No Michelle you just mistyped. You knew what you meant to say just mistyped it. ;)

Cheers,

I felt that way when they were young. As they get older, I don't worry quite so much.
Although a student teacher just got fired at my dd's highschool for messing around with a student. I know it can happen with both male and female teachers, but I worry more with men.

Obviously you've never heard of Mary Letourneau?

There have been two women accused of this, that's been in the media, that I know of. How many men have been accused of this? It happens so often it's not even big news anymore.

I'd still like to know who I am supposed to protect my children from....

You and me RM, but I am afraid we will never get a straight answer. :yo-yo:

We've had a few talks in the last few days. Luckily I have always had open talks with the girls and they are old enough to understand. They know that not all teachers will be like that. It just reinforced what I have always told them...just because someone is nice to you and seems perfectly normal doesn't mean they are. I don't want them to not trust people, but there is a fine line sometimes that is hard to define. I don't want them to think that someone is being nice to them because they want to harm them, but I want them to keep their guard up. How to find a proper balance isn't easy. Sometimes being a Mom isn't easy.

You will never get a straight enswer, you may get more passive aggressive responses though. I, for one, know that I wouldn't let my daughter or sons go meet any stranger from the internet, maybe everybody should follow those rules.

 Possibly you had not read the whole thread, ima, or kanga. The thought transited from male teachers, to teachers of any gender, I further developed the thought that one can not be too safe anywhere in life, as I think most of us try to instill in our children today, awareness....an example close to most of us, this board, sort of like our neighborhood in RL. I guess I have always taught my two kids, now adults, to be aware, everywhere. Sorry for having a thought. As for tea, I prefer coffee.

BTW, have a nice holiday.

There are some sick people on this board, both genders, whom I could not imagine trusting a child with. Just think of some.

Dan , the second is one pretty strong statement that you made that came out of the clear blue sky , directed only at the people on the DIS, not in general in life.
No I did not miss anything when I read the post , what the heck are we supposed to think when you are saying that there are some sick people on this board who you would not trust a child with and tells us to think of some? This is a direct statement about people on the DIS.
Not an appropriate comment if you ask me , coming from someone who has claimed that this board is like a big happy family. JMO.

Nancy, this is not an easy situation , the best that you can do is reinforce that not everyone is the same but the girls should never under any circumstances let their guard down , that's all we can do.
We can only protect our children so much, but sometimes it's out of our hands.

Wow, I'm really puzzled? Dan you do a lot of Dis meets (which I think is a great thing). Total strangers meet you and others at Dis meets. It would be sad if none of them trusted you to even meet you but they do and at first you were the stranger. I usually stay out of this kind of stuff but I just don't understand what you meant or who you meant.
I took it you meant someone on this thread is a pervert. I don't really know any one here, never met any but I don't have a clue who is and who isn't a pervert.
Some times those that we think are so great and wonderful turn out to be a pervert, you just don't know.
I do agree that one should be very careful when meeting others even from the dis. and introducing them to their kids.

Maybe Dan meant that, like any community, that there are some that can't be trusted on the DIS. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I'd still like to know who I am supposed to protect my children from

::yes:: Well Dan anything to say

Not an appropriate comment if you ask me , coming from someone who has claimed that this board is like a big happy family.

I would agree and i'd like Dan to explain his comments or withdraw them.

You all just can't stand no going in for the kill, now can you. So what if someone thinks that someone else is a pervert on here! Do you honestly believe with the numbers involved there are not sexual assaulters in our midst. Give me a break.

Why don't we all just attack Dan like folks did Delswife. That seems to be the new thing here. It is now okay to attack anyone
no matter how kind and generous of a human being they are.

Woo hoo! Have a good one.

first of all i would like to say that i hope that Nancy and her family can put this damaging situation behind them,it makes me sick to think we have these people in society.my prayers are with you.
Now there seems to be alot of conteversy stirred up in this thread
and a couple of things said i don't agree with:-

I dont think its a good ideal for men to be teachers

i totally disagree with this!,here in the UK we had a tv show called nanny's from hell which showed how innocent children were battered by there babysitters, all of which were female.does this mean that its not ideal to have women nanny's!!!!
SAD TO SAY THAT THERE ARE GOOD AND BAD IN BOTH GENDERS.

Then there was the Dan quote, well Dan i read some of your comments and think yer a decent guy,i don't know how to interpret your quote but maybe you're right,it also makes me sick that some vermin might be reading my posts too, name and shame my friend they don't deserve anything but hatred.

Since there's a large number of posters here does that mean EVERYONE has the right to make such strong statements about others?

Would it be all right for someone other than Dan to make that statement?

As for the Delswife "attack", had that been a less popular DISers, the CB protectors would not have come out in such force.

My son and I shared an Illuminations Cruise with other DISers in April. It was our first time attending any type of DIS event/meet. We both had a great time. This is something I look forward to doing on future trips. If there's someone here that shouldn't be around children, as a parent I'd like to know.

There are many post that are quickly deleted because they are rude, sexually explicit and such. That is what the mods do such a good job taking care of. As a parent, I am sure you will be watching your kids carefully around strangers. We all do.

There do seem to be an awful lot of attacks on here recently. I am surprised it is allowed. On anyone's part. I think it is rude. IMO.
