I stand by my statement. Anyone who has spent a great deal of time here has seen someone who has given them the willies! Luckily most are quickly deleted.

And no, I don't think witch-hunts are necessary. The nice thing about the computer is the ability to ignore what you don't like. I would have happily ignored this except I saw another attack coming. They are sad, and they hurt people. Not cool.

eta: If cousin fred from nowhere stated the same thing would there have been this reaction? I don't think so. I just see a bunch of folks wanting to catch a reasonably nice guy in a snafoo.

How do you know it is wrong? There are not and have not ever been any perverts on the Dis? Everyone else says what they want on here, why shouldn't he?

There may very well be people here that shouldn't be alone with children. The dis is a big place. But for Dan to make the statement like he knows who they are was wrong. If he knows who shouldn't be alone with our children, he needs to tell the police. And I for one would like to know who they are.

If he doesn't have any proof, then he made just a general insult to people he doesn't like.

It was wrong.

And just for the record, Dan and I are friends.

The point is the OP was posting about a TEACHER who was ARRESTED, and Dan made a very off the wall comment about people on the DIS as a generalization and a slander. Saying that

had absolutely nothing to do with the original post, and was uncalled for.

I find it a bit disturbing that the insinuation here is that some of the "racier" DISers are being likened with child molesters.

I've worked with sexually abused children before.....one of the first things out of their mouths once you earn their trust is "But I always thought Mr./Miss X was so nice....they did nice things for me."

I've yet to hear from a child "Mr./Miss X was a total perv and said nasty things"

But I guess the racier DISers are just an easy target

Did anyone say that? I have seen many post deleted here for a lot of reasons including those of a sexual reason. I've worked with kiddos too, and you are right. I believe Dan at one point clarified that he meant predators can be evrywhere, not just male teachers in the classroom. I may have misunderstood, however.

So, if the topic had been "do you think there are sexual predators on the DIs?" it would have been okay? I think on the dis there are predators, racists, people who like to spread hate, alcoholics, druggies etc. Why would the Dis be any different from real life?

I can't believe people. Folks say offensive things on here day in and day out. I have never seen anyone demand an apology!

Do people really think that, with over 60,000 registered users, that there is not a child molester, child abuser, or someone who like kiddie pron on these boards? Dan didn't name any names, he just asked you to imagine. IMAGINE that the nice person on the other side of the computer screen, after chatting about Disney, is downloading kiddie pron.
These messages boards give a degree of anonymity that you don't get in regular life. For all you know, I'm not from Philly and my name isn't Beth. Heck, I could be a guy!

This was a statement directed only to DIS boards people , which later on Dan stated which later on was edited and some things removed , but not only that, later on was turned into I further developed the thought that one can not be too safe anywhere in life, as I think most of us try to instill in our children today, awareness....an example close to most of us, this board, sort of like our neighborhood in RL.

His statement has a second meaning, or at least this is how it comes across to most of us, if he wanted to generalize that people should be aware everywhere, he would have not particularly used only the DIS as a reference and told the people that there are sick people here with whom he would not trust children with and ask to think of some.

You are kidding me right? So it's ok for Dan to attack and insult on the DIS but not for the rest of the people? Sorry, but the guidelines are for everyone, there are no Gods or Saints here. And I am not saying in any way that the attacking to Delswife was right .

Bottom line is , we all know that there are sickos everywhere, but the statement about the DIS and asking us to think of some , was not a generalized statement as he later on stated.
If this had been posted by someone else, that poster would have been flamed to ashes and the post locked or deleted.

That is HARDLY just a general statement not directed at specific people, take off the blinders.

"Just think of some of them", that is specific. Have you ever read anything on the DIS that would make you think somebody is a child molester? That statement is obviously pointed to people who actually post. It is not a statement directed at the 'scary child molester' lurking on the board.

If you feel the need, 'Frustrated' to defend Dan at all cost, you might want to tell him that he shouldn't make silly statements he can't back up.

I notice Dan likes to toss out these little comments and then you won't see him again on the thread, like I said, passive agressive.

He gave a general statement, the best I can see. The attack is very personal, IMO. I have said the same thing. I think perverts visit the Dis. No one cares, because I am a nobody. Dan was a target, IMO because he is usually a very nice, helpful individual. So what if he thinks people are inapropriate, so do I sometimes. Then I report it and go on.

eta: I can think of several people that have posted on here that I would not want my children around.

I personally think Dan's post regarding child molesters on the DIS and all the subsequent posts beating a dead horse should go bye bye. As a former mod on the CB, its rare that I deleted posts, in fact I could count the times on one hand that I did it. This certainly would have been one of those times, but alas, I'm no longer a CB mod.

Nancy, I am so sorry that your girls had to find this out about their former teacher. We as parents always want to protect our children from the sickos of the world, at all cost. Hugs to you and your girls.
