We have been looking for him since 10 am and cant find him.. Im so upset right now..

MY DOGGY CAME HOME...  11:40 LAST NIGHT MY NEIGHBOR RANG THE DOORBELL.. HE GOES IN HIS FRONT YARD TO SMOKE AND HE WENT OUTSIDE AND MATT WAS SITTING BY HIS GARAGE SO HE BROUGHT HIM HOME AS HE KNEW THAT HE WAS MISSING.. I WILL CERTAINLY DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME.. Yes but everyone is closed today because its a city holiday.. I called all 3 animal control places out here and left messages.. I called my vet cause he is wearing his tags and their phone# is on them if someone happens to pick him and sees them.. My DD15 dad just told her cause they've been at his house all day.. she is all upset.. I hope he comes back or someone finds him..

:grouphug: to you! I lost a cat once for a whole month! I couldn't sleep for days! He finally came home but he was dirty, smelly and skinny. But fine and happy to be home again! Hope your dog-baby comes home soon!

Crossing my fingers and toes that your furbaby comes home soon. Sometimes they just wander away for a while and make their way back. Hang in there. :grouphug:

This happened to me once. My older collie that never left her yard in 14 years wondered off one day. I was actually sick, it happened late at night and she was 14. it was cold and we live in an area with no street lights., plus 1/2 mile from a main interstate.

Someone found her wandering the road and called the animal control officer. I got her back the next day. I know how you feel, it is such a horrible feeling to not know where they are.

My friends dog got out of his kennel also and he was found as skinny as a rail, 3 weeks later. So don't lose hope. Please keep us posted.

I'm so sorry... stories like yours are why I check on my dogs constantly while they are outside and never leave them out while I'm gone. People think I'm manic but you just never know! I hope your baby is found soon.

I hate leaving them outside but generally if we are gone more than a few hours I usually do because they tear everything up.. Sometimes in the middle of the night they get ahold of stuff and tear it up.. One day a few months ago I left them in the house while I went to my parents and DF was down the road at a friends house.. he came home and checked on them and took them out to go potty and then let them back in.. I got home about an hour after the last time he checked on them and they tore up mail and left it on the living room floor.. they got ahold of some bags of school supplies and tore the bag open and tore the spiral notebooks up.. they tore up the boxes of kleenex.. basically they made a mess..

Now I wish I had just left them in the house.. but I knew we were gonna be gone for a long time with noone home..

I'm sure that he'll be home as soon as he gets cold or hungry!!!! :grouphug: :grouphug:

I would also invest in some crates and then crate them up when you are leaving. That will prevent them from tearing things up (they probably have some sort of separation anxiety) and keep them safe at the same time. :grouphug:

:grouphug: I can sympathize with you. Last night, I let the dogs out into the garage, but left the door open for them to go into our fenced in yard while we put away fall/Thanksgiving decorations, thoroughly cleaned the house, rearranged the furniture & brought up the Christmas decorations. While they were out there, the wind & rain blew in one section of our fence. One dog took off, but I didn't know about it until I went to let them in & only 1 dog came in!!. I didn't have any shoes on, so I couldn't take immediate chase. Besides - I had no way of knowing whether he was gone for 5 minutes or 4 hours! DH took off in the car looking for him. 1-1/2 hrs later, still no dog. At 1 am, I woke DD7 up, got her in my car so I could also help DH look. We were soo worried that he would get hit because who is looking for a black dog in the rain at 1am?? As soon as I backed out of the driveway, here he comes walking around the corner & up the driveway into the garage. Thankfully we had a happy ending because we had no way of knowing exactly how long he was gone for! The funny part when he went into the garage & sat down, he gave us a look like "where are you going in this rain at this time of night? Don't you want to go in the house where it is dry & warm?"

Again - hugs & PD that he will come home safe & sound!

My biggest fear! :sad2:

I'm too much of worrywart to leave my girl outside when I'm gone too. I even check on her when I'm here. She's never left outside any longer than it takes her to do her thing, unless someone is out there with her.

I hope your baby is safe somewhere, and that he finds his way home soon! :grouphug:

I am sooooo glad to hear this. I was just reading your other posts early in the thread. I have a suggestion for you (as did someone else)--get crates for your dogs. Now, it may be "too late" for them as they are now older and have not been crate trained, but believe me, it will give you some peace of mind.

I had three dogs for 16 years and I never even knew about crate training. I spent a long time dealing with issues such as yours: never being able to go out for long without the dogs tearing something up. *Most* dogs do not like to be left alone in the house, free to roam, and they get anxiety. You can obviously see that leaving them out in the yard is no longer an option. Try a crate.

My current animals have been crate trained and it takes such a load of worry off me. They love their crates now and are quite comfortable to go in them for however long we are gone.

If you feel your dogs are too old to start crating, how about just blocking off a room with a baby gate? We have a 6-month old canine paper shredder, and if we have to go to another part of the house for some reason (ie: laundry room in the basement), we gate him in the kitchen. He just can't be trusted when we are not around to watch! He has plenty of room to wander around, and there's nothing he can get into (unless we leave the newspaper too close to the edge of the table)!

I'm glad he's back home.

I don't think it's too late for crate training. good luck :)
