I know I'm not the youngest, hottest chick on the block (that ship sailed many years ago) and in his defense he is 30 and I am 44, but what am I? Frankenstein's monster? And he wonders why he is single?

I'm not sure I would remain his friend if he is concerned that people would:

1) get the wrong impression that we were dating

AND

2) he would be creeped out that his cool factor will go down by people thinking that.

I'd kick him to the curb as my friend. Sadly, I get the impression by his comments that he likely would not care.

I don't think your friend is a jerk. I just don't think he thought about the way that would sound. My best friend is a guy and he has no filter between his brain and his mouth. I'm pretty sure he also has no idea that what he said would hurt you. I know where you are coming from but I'll bet he didn't mean it that way.
