My fish have names

Years ago we had several renditions of "Otto" the gold fish, DD named them after the Dr. Seuss/PD Eastman book "A Fish Out of Water." (Technically not written by Dr. Seuss but his wife, though based on a short story written by the famed author.) Ironically, when I was a young child we also had a Otto (my dad named it, I'm not sure the origin).

More recently DD names her Glow Fish after Sesame Street characters. So far we've had Dorothy, Elmo, Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Zoe, Oscar, Grover, Julia and Tango. Maybe a couple others, I lose track over the years. The current 4 we've had for about 2 1/2 years.

We have a Raphael Catfish that my kids have named King Fishy since he’s so big and had lived in our tank now for over 7 years. At one point we thought he died as we hadn’t seen him in a long time, but he was just always hiding inside our big rock formation.

Very creative. Any fish we had, had names because we considered them pets (but never had more than 3 or 4 at a time in a small tank).

DS was also a Dr. Seuss fan and named one of his goldfish Krinklebine, after the fish in The Cat In The Hat.

Years ago, in our pond, I had 4 goldfish. Named them, North, South, East and West based on the placement of any white on their bodies.

Fast forward until now, I have way too many to name in my pond. Babies and moving to a new pond now in NJ, so their numbers grew. Some of these are more than 10 years old. One baby has just lost much of its early greenish/brownish color. First baby to reach that milestone in years!

I do consider them pets, but now they don’t have names.

The baby is circled. You can see the dark spot barely!
