Woke up at 7:20 to shower and hike to the food court. This is one of the things that I really do not like about this resort....the hike to the food court. Another thing that is hard is that there is only one hot tub and it is a Old Port Royale and closes at midnight. For most of our stay it was inhabited by teenagers which is very uncomfortable if you are in your 40's so we stayed away. We do not understand why there aren't hot tubs at all the island pools. Anyway, the food court at CB really makes up for the walk. There is a fabulous selection of breakfast choices available!! And the food was very good. I only ate lunch and dinner there once, but breakfast almost everyday and it was great to have so many things available. I bought the mug, too, which helped on drinks.
We got to the Animal Kingdom by 8:30am on the buses, walked right in. The security checkpoint was well staffed and very quick. Once inside we headed straight back for the Safari. In less than five minutes we were seated in our truck and off on the best safari any of us had ever been on. It was overcast and cool so there were tons of animals out and lots of them right near the road. Our driver/guide was Matt and he had a great voice. He really made this safari a great experience. I was snapping pictures right and left and when my camera ran out of film, I tried to change it but the new roll jammed in the camera and refused to work so I not only lost some chances of some great pictures but a whole roll of film
. I thought for a moment it might be that the camera broke but the next roll went in just fine and it worked beautifully the rest of the trip. We got off the safari and went lanyard sharking (hunting CM's with lanyards and pins to trade) and did a little shopping in the market right outside the entrance to the safari. It started to rain so I bought a Mickey poncho. I wore it for five whole minutes and it stopped raining. It did not rain for the rest of the day!! Found a really cool manpurse, an over the shoulder bag that had lots of pockets and zippered compartments but very butch, not girly at all!! had to buy one. Then it was off to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Very interesting. Lots of characters out, I got my picture with Tigger, of course, Pocohantas and Rafiki who was a riot to watch sneaking up on people and hiding in the trees that are there, very funny. We had a great conversation with an animal nutritionist who was preparing meals for the animals. It is totally cool and fascinating how well Disney cares for the animals there. I was really impressed. out to the petting zoo for a few minutes and then back to the main park for a stroll through the African Jungle. We decided on lunch at the Flame Tree BBQ. I love this restaraunt. While I was ordering, the CM pointed out that for a dollar more I could get five dollars worth of drink and ice cream later in the park. Definitely worth it!!! After lunch we did the Pagani Trail. Then on to ITTBAB. This is another favorite and it was great! more shopping on our way to dinoland. Got the AK interactive 100 years of magic pin. These pins light up during parades and on a bunch of the rides!! I ended up with three. The Magic Kingdom one and the MGM one were sold out and they had the 2003 version, but I did not get those, I was holding out for the 100 years version, <sigh>. Dinosaur was a short wait so we rode it rather than fast pass it and it was one of the few things all six of us did together so of course I bought the photo! Then on to Primeval Whirl. This is a great, great, great ride!!!!! We screamed the whole way, it was so much fun! Couldn't wait to do it again but had to go if we were going to catch the parade. The puppets in this parade were gorgeous and very well handled by the CM's. After the parade, we went to find the pin trading pony which I had heard about in Camp Minnie Mickey. We found out that he is only there from 11:30 to 2:30. Oh Well
maybe if there is time we will come back. We decided to go back to the resort so we could rest up for DisneyQuest that night. When we got back the rest wanted a swim so they went to the island pool but I decided to hike to the hot tub. When we got to our room, housekeeping had put the stuffed animals we had all on one bed watching tv with the remote in one of their hands. Very funny. Off to the hot tub. There were a couple of high school boys in it, there were not jets just soothingly hot water. The boys were well behaved and a younger boy told them he did not believe they were cheerleaders. Then some girls decided to join us in the pool. One girl asked the guys why they went into cheerleading and they all blushed and said to meet girls. Amusing, but it was too much for me. I think...fled...is the most appropriate term for what I did then. Jumped into the regular pool where a woman was asking the guards if they could clear the hot tub for a few minutes so she could go in. She wasn't comfortable going into it with all those kids. The guards said they could not really clear it unless the kids were being unruly, which they weren't. I was kind of surprised that they wouldn't ask the kids to give it up for ten minutes. Oh well. I got out of the pool and wrote in my journal and then went in and got some dinner. Burger and fries. Prety good. Then went to lay down just as the rest of my group came in for dinner. When they came back, we got ready and went to DD to go to DQ. What a blast. No crowds so we were able to do things two and three times in a row. The Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite although Alien encounter was pretty good and the river raft ride was fun too. After that we went to the arcade where we won some more stuffed things. I got two miss piggy's and a gonzo with one try at the claw machine. Then we got a free card when we came in for use in the carnival section. You win tickets which you can then redeem for prizes. i was very good at the Goofy Whack a thing. Sort of like the mole thing except when you hit the pop ups part of a building goes down and if you are really quick you get lots of tickets! I got enough pencils to give everybody two with my winnings!! Then went back down and wrote a country song. My Dog Gets more Dates Than I Do. lots of fun. it was closing time so we went on back to the resort. I fell right to sleep, even though I had a nap earlier! Ah! Tomorrow, MGM!!!
