A week after Disney marathon weekend our family came down with the strain B flu. That was a minimum of two weeks in bed. Felt ok for a couple days and ended up with then with a sinus infection. Ten days on antibiotics. I started to get better on antibiotics then hit a brick wall. They put me on new meds and four days later I had a raging fever. Long story short I now had pneumonia. I finished my medication last week and went for my first run since marathon weekend. Wow...2.5 miles and I was worn out! My hands and legs were shaking and I was extremely thirsty. Anyone have experience with sickness and how long is a normal period before feeling back to your old running self??

I feel your pain. I ran the marathon day with the initial stages of flu. Improved on the trip home but my first day back to work got hit like a ton of bricks. One moment I was thinking about stealing a short run at lunch then an hour later curled up in bed with a 104 fever. I had the A Strain followed with the B strain. I had the flu shot but unlike previous years, the danged thing did not work. I only recently started working out again and have lost 40-50% aerobic capacity. Ugh.

For me it can take weeks...sometimes two sometimes three...and thats just getting back to feeling good, never mind getting into the shape I was before.

It does drag on and on and on..and sinus headaches...thats a whole other story..you find yourself taking tons of meds to deal with that and the meds make you tired to do anything.

Yeah I hear you...you do 26.2 miles one moment and then you can't even crawl a tenth of a mile down a road paved in pillows without nodding off.

Coach I'm proud of you for even running! My brother had the same issue plus he hurt his back on Saturday in the park! He went over his usual time by 45 minutes. I guess you do all the training and spend all the money you feel like you have to run.:)

That last sentence is an excellent description of how I feel!!
