I tried to reserve Dec. 7-11 at the BCV (my new home resort) in either a studio or one bedroom. MS said no availability. If I go onto the WDW reservation site, I can reserve a one bedroom villa for those dates. What gives? Is there no advantage to being an "owner" -- Though I suspect the reason is that the inventory has to include some cash paying customers...when it is my home resort...shouldn't I be able to get in if it is available???

There are two seperate inventories of rooms and you can't transfer between the two. So CRO often has rooms for cash but not DVC. This is something we all have gone thru when new. ?A percentage of rooms are always out of our reach.

Part of it is that people more or less sell their points to Disney when they use points for cruises, Concierge Collection, etc. Disney recoups their costs by renting out those rooms for cash. Like chainkid says, it's two separate inventories.

As mentioned, the inventory of rooms available for points is separate from the inventory available for cash.

Rooms in the "cash inventory" come from several sources:

Disney retains ownership of a a small percentage (approximately 4%) of each DVC resort. These rooms may be rented by CRO.

60 days ahead of time, DVC often allows CRO to rent any remaining unreserved rooms. Income from these rooms is returned to members and helps to reduce our annual dues. It is called "breakage" income on the dues statements.

The lion's share of the rooms in the cash inventory comes from members who use their points to reserve rooms in the non- DVC "Collections". An example would be you using points to stay at the Poly. DVC has to pay cash for those choices. It gets the cash from CRO - by sending the equivalent number of point room nights to rent for cash.

So try not to feel bad that there are still cash reservations available when there are no rooms left for points. It's more than likely because another member wanted to stay at the Poly or the GF or take a cruise, etc.

HTH.

That actually does make me feel better. I didn't reallze it was quite that complicated, but it all makes sense. Now, on to the waiting list for my BCV stay! :-)

popular months you really need to take the 11 month booking advantage at your home resort. bcv usually fills up fast, because of the closseness to epcot and sab. the beginning of the month of dec. fills up very fast because of the low points needed.
next year watch the dvc dis board at the 11 month booking for dec. and read all the buzz who got what and which weeks.:teeth:

try the day by day waitlist, you have 5 1/2 months from now, i wouldnt be surprise if your day by day waitlist comes thru

But unfortunately we just closed on a resale last week...so I was unable to do it. Now, we will want BCV again next year at same time...I have a Feb. use year, but I will still be able to reserve in January at the 11 month range, right?

Right! Use year has nothing to do with when you can call to make a reservation. That's always 11 months ahead of check out for your home resort and 7 months ahead of check out for a non-home resort.

Points need not be in your account when you call - they just have to be there when you arrive.

Sorry that happened to you. It's not a good first time experience. Try for other resorts at that time, while you're on the wait list. Most of them are very nice too, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

You are trying for one of the busiest DVC times. I am sure the waitlist will come through. You might try making a ressie at another DVC resort and then transfering to BCV if the waitlist comes through.

Actually the only thing available is SSR and while we will likely stay there sometime, we had a trip scheduled already and were staying at the BC on cash (before we decided to buy in) and our 6 year old has her heart set on the BC. With a 6 and 1 year old in tow, it is almost a necessity that we stay somewhere with walking or boat transportation to at least one resort. Neither BWV nor VWL is available either, so we will go on the wait list and if we don't get in, just suck it up and pay cash one last time.....

I got a waitlist a couple years ago at BWV for the same time period - and it came through about 2 months prior to the trip - and it was a standard view. The waitlist has always worked for us so be patient and maybe get on BWV and VWL waitlist as well and something will pop up I bet.

yes the waitlist is your only choice - but get on it NOW - if you wait - they will cut you off - they will have too many people on the waitlist and they know it.

did you buy through DVC? If so call your sales guide - they can and do pull off the impossible. If you brought it resale - then you will get have to use the wait list.

the first two weeks of December has always been very, very popular with DVC member - low points, low crowds, all the Christmas shows and everything is decorated....

so next year if you want December make your reservations in January.

sorry!!! most sales guide will warn you of this - and help you make your reservations for Dec if they can.

there are also several websites that have their meets during this time too.
