Not exactly wild. This was at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, Mass. It was cool to be able to get so close. I was watching the mountain lion when a man asked me if I had seen the bird show. He highly recommended it so I went. Very cool. Taken with my D50 and 18-125mm Quantaray lens.

Nice shot! I didn't know they had a bird show there I'll have to check it out. I've noticed that they have a new black bear exhibit so I may take a ride by there on one of my days off.

I need to get out and shoot so this would be a good idea.

Thanks. I had never been so close to an eagle. Its a small zoo but fun. They have river otters that are fun to watch. Their habitat is being redone right now so they weren't out:(
The bird show was cool. The birds fly overhead. I wasn't quick enough catch any good shots in the air.
The bird that smashes its prey on the ground. (its a fake snake)

They are behind glass and chain link fence.
Worth a visit if you don't live too far. Or even the Franklin Park Zoo.

I think its a great shot. You must have been close to get such a tight shot at even 125! I'll definitately make a trip there this summer, I usually just hit Franklin Park.

If you did crop this shot, I would suggest maybe moving the eagle's head to the right side of the frame from the center. For some reason, I've really had a thing for off-center landscape-oriented shots. If its to the right you would also imply that the eagle is looking at the big space to its left.

Great shot and perfect sharpness! :thumbsup2

I didn't crop the photo at all thats how close I was. I could have reached out and touched him/her.

Wow... amazing shot of the eagle. The other bird is called a Secretary Bird, I think. Seen those things stomping cobras on Nat'l Geographic channel. Any bird that stomps a snake to death is a friend of mine. :rotfl:

I really enjoyed your pictures! I was just there on Monday...first grade field trip. I was very surprised that the size of the eagles. I did not see the bird show however.
Aren't those black bears wonderful!?
I did not get as good as pictures as you did....I was too busy keeping track of my group!

Thanks for sharing the pictures!!

This is actually the best picture I got that day.
I LOVE the big cats!!

Monday was the day I was there, too. I saw a bunch of young school kids at the entrance when I got there.
You got a nice picture of the jaguar. Mine have glass glare on them.

We didn't get there until 1:30ish. It looked like your group was getting ready to leave.

Cool! I'm hoping to get out and find some eagles in NH or northeastern Mass this summer to watch and photograph. I know they are here. Its a matter of finding them.

and remembering to use sport mode or continous shooting if they are fishing - lol.

They are a very majectic bird. They were very prevalent in Alaska - I must have 100 pictures now. Your photo was stunning. You were fortunate to get a close up.
