be prepared to show your passport when wanting to order any alcoholic drinks in California Adventure. When there on Tuesday we tried to order beer while at Taste Pilots Grill and were denied due to not having our passports with us. We did have our Government issued, pictured driver's licenses with us, but were told that foreign driver's licenses were not acceptable forms of id. They would only accept passports. This was a shock to us as we have never had issues with this before and had in fact on Thursday ordered beer while at Paradise Pier.
We were not upset about not being able to have a drink, but rather, it was the non-consistency and no warning that this was their policy. I even looked on their website and there was nothing. The reason for this new policy is that there has been underage drinking happening with those showing driver's licenses as their form of id from other countries and the cast members not being able to understand the driver's licenses.

Anyway, just a heads up that if you are wanting to drink, have your passport on your person!

This has happened many times to me, particularly at Food and Wine festival events over the years. They refused to serve alcohol to me at the Hoop de doo revue because I did not have my passport (I was 40 at the time, with my husband who did have his passport! So I snuck drinks from him)...

Over the years I've read many reports of needing a PP to order drinks. It's nothing new. It does seem to go in cycles though.

I've been to many places in the states that the policy is if you look any younger than 40 you will be asked for ID. I was asked at a Walmart in FL last summer.....I was with my DH and my DD's that are 14 and 23. So pretty safe to say I'm over 40.

I can't recall the last time I was carded at disney. Normally my wife does once or twice a trip and DL has always been accepted. Our PPs do not leave the safe so if our DL is not good enough for whoever asks then there doing us a favor as we save the inflated price for whatever drink we might have had. lol

Like everything else at disney it really comes down to the individual cast member.

actually, Dave and Busters here in Toronto have the same policy.
my cousin from Scotland could not get a drink since he only had his driver's licence and not his passport.
I had never heard of it before, but interesting that DL does it too.

Passports?? I fear losing them and not being able to get home...I keep them.locked tight in the safe the second I walk in the door until the second we leave to go back to the airport. ..I'd rather not drink

Exactly! I lost my passport once, many years ago, in my house (probably went out with the trash), got a replacement passport but was told at that time that I would be flagged as having lost a passport in the past. Now I'm super careful and would never carry it around just to be able to buy alcohol. They either take my driver's license as proof of age or I spend my booze money on a new purse!

I would suggest always making photocopies of your documents, just in case. You'll still need to get your passport replaced but if you're in a foreign country, a photocopy might expedite this process.

Thank you for this tip. I guess we'll throw our passports in our bag when we're touring WDW. The good thing for us is that we're driving. So if we do lose them, we won't have to worry about it until we're back in Canada. Still, though, it would suck to lose your passport.

My mom takes photocopies of all both sides of her ID and credit cards before she leaves on a trip and gives me a copy. That way if everything is stolen she still has a copy that can be accessed.
