Because of the podcast, we had to stop and see the glass blower demonstration. We stopped first thing in the morning and saw him make a vase similiar to the one in the picture, only it had handles. After his demonstration someone made a purchase and someone else asked about a vase with a different type of handle. The glass blower said that he likes to have the customer see him make what they buy. So, I set up a time for later in the day to come back and watch him make me a vase. I picked that it had no handles, and as he was making the piece he would ask me questions about how I wanted it to look.

The demonstration was amazing to see, and it was neat to have my vase made right in front of me. Thanks to the podcast for sharing this fun and different activity. My vase stands about 12 inches tall, hard to tell in the picture.

I had absolutely no intention of buying when we stopped, but it was amazing to see. So, I just couldn't resist. This vase took the place of me going to the Christmas Party.

Wow, I didn't know they would do custom work while you stood there.

Yep, that was the best part. I felt really special with a big group of people who were watching him make this vase and the only opinion that mattered was mine. Oh, if only life was always that way :)

I showed DH and even he was impressed - I think he is glad I stay on wrong side of the pond as it would make Disney shopping trips too easy :lmao:

No, I don't mind sharing. It was $75. He acted like he hadn't made one before without handles, because he "made-up" the price. The vase with two handles on it was $95. It was worth every single penny. The experience was great. The demonstration alone was very informative.

I think that's a fantastic price for something that is pretty much a customized piece of art. :thumbsup2

I think so, too. When he told me $75, I thought that was cheap. I was expecting closer to $100 when compared to other pieces.

Just a note to anyone thinking of doing this, though. We set up a time to come back and have him do this. But, we weren't allowed to take the piece with us that day. We had to go back to the park to get it the next day. It had to cool down over night in a special oven. The temperature starts at 975 degrees and slowly decreases over the remainder of the day.

Wow! That is so cool. I like that it's subtle. Chances are, if you're not a Disney fan, you may not get "it". There's a strong chance that I am going to be a copy cat and have one made in January. Thanks Madi100 for sharing!

Yes, it is subtle. My mom didn't get it. I love her to death, but she often times doesn't get it. When I told her it was a Mickey vase, she said, "Oh, yeah, now I see his eyes." "No, Mom, those are the buttons on his pants." And I certainly didn't design the piece. He already had the Mickey vase there. I was just able to customize it by leaving off the handles and deciding how wide I wanted the top to be.

Hi, I know I heard that podcast but am having an air bubble. Is the glass blower at the MK?

Love the pix - have to have one - there goes my mousefest budget!:yay:

Yes, he is in Magic Kingdom. I can't remember the name of the store, but it is right before the bakery on the corner. There is a little side street, and there is a door on the side that will lead you right into the back of the store by the glass blowing area.

Hi, I think the store is called Arribas Brothers, or something like that. If you are heading towards the castle it is on the right side after the side court where they do silhouette pictures.

When my family was there in Oct we went in a few times to watch him make things. At one point we were the first ones there and he started a lid for someones vase. Then we snuck out, or so we thought, to see wishes and came back in to watch him finish it. He commented on how we deserted him for fireworks. By the time we got back into the store he had finished most of it. We thought it was amazing to watch him make such beautiful things.
