My favorite entree this vacation--San Angel Inn

Funny thing was--it wasn't even mine. (More on that later.)

I don't think we've ever been to WDW without eating at least once at San Angel. I love the whole atmosphere! (Ok, I do wish they wouldn't cram so many tables together...)

We started with the complimentary chips and salsa which are ok. I always ask the server to ask the kitchen to make up some chicken enchiladas with mole sauce for me. They are happy to oblige. Two oldest boys ordered Plato Mexicano (I'm one of the people on this board that advises others to steer clear of these kinds of items at San Angel. But they're just kids--what do they know?). They were very happy with their choice. DH ordered the Pollo a las Rajas which is a grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onions, chile poblano, chorizo and melted cheese. This was the first time I have ever regretted ordering my chicken mole entree. Oh, my goodness-- the Pollo a las Rajas was divine!!! (As a matter of fact, I told DH he is a traitor for switching his choice for favorite entree to Jiko's filet with macaroni when he made SOOO much more of a fuss over San Angel's Pollo a las Rajas!) It wasn't even mine and I only was allowed two bites and I am declaring it my favorite entree of all time at WDW. Now, tastes are a very personal matter, so I'm not promising you'll feel the same way if you try it--but I know that DH and I both went crazy over this cheesey dish! This will be the first place we will head for on our next trip, I assure you! (They really have some wonderful sounding and adventurous new items on their menu and I wish I would have branched out away from my old standby and ordered something daring like DH did.

We ordered the chocolate chimichanga (fried crepe filled with dark chocolate, banana, served with vanilla ice cream and peanut butter sauce) for dessert. Be warned--you'll need a microscope to find it. (Don't count on sharing it!) It was pretty good. Someone else ordered the bread pudding (White Chocolate and golden raisin bread pudding served with peanut butter sauce and milk caramel.) Sounds a lot better than it tasted. Oh, well. Next time we won't be so curious about the desserts here. Hey, the bakery in France is just half a lagoon away!

Oh, one more thing. The Plato Mexicano that the boys ordered for dinner is quite a bit more expensive than the lunch portion but comes with a cut of steak. The boys ordered their's well done. One son's was fine. The other's had to be sent back twice. I love the low lighting in San Angel but I suggest you pull one or both (if you have that many) lamps up to each plate to try determine if your meat is cooked correctly. It really is difficult to determine what you're eating in there sometimes!

Thanks for your post! This may be my favorite restaurant in the whole WDW World. However, the food last time was saturated in cilantro and DH thinks cilantro tastes like dish soap. Still, I LOVE the atmosphere and would eat a cilantro salad to sit next to the river. I may try to talk him into another visit this summer when we go. Thanks again!

That cheesy chicken dish sounds really good. I have to confess to ordering Nachos and enjoying then from the Cantina a few weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing - It sounds as if a good time was had by all!!!!

Belle, my husband is not a big fan of Mexican food in general but agreed to go to San Angel with me during our last trip. He too ordered the Pollo a las Rejas and raved about it! I did taste it and it was great! A definite winner.
And their margaritas are terrific too!

Sounds sooo yummy. I wonder if they serve that cheesy chicken dish at lunch? Thanks for sharing!

Yes they do, and it's nearly $3.00 cheaper at lunch time (though I'm not sure if the portion size is the same but I suspect it is).
