Yesterday we had a 60th. birthday party for the Mom. We were talking about our recent trip to WDW and she asked to see our pictures. Well, the minute I get on property the ears go on and stay on until we leave. I bring the same ones with me, they are now 7 years old. With our new digital camera we can show the pictures on TV, cool! We start to show them and there are several with me and my Minnie ears, nieces and nephews are laughing and ooohhinng and ahhhing. The Mom says not very kindly, cute Michelle, you didn't really walk around like that did you? I proudly reply, yep I always do, they are on from time we arrive to time we leave and they are 7 years old! DD, 13, even says proudly, I have some too Grandma. She looks again and leans over and says, aren't you kind of old and big-her meaning fat-for that? Again I reply Mom you are never too old or big! My extended family just does not get it, sad for them. I even have to hide the fact that we will be going back in October and I am thinking of a long weekend trip in July when 4 out of 5 will be at camp! I love this board cuz everybody gets it, lol! princess:

Yep, twice and she didn't get it then and doesn't get it now!

We went in Dec. and I told my Mom that I wanted to take a short trip in July and you would have thought I looked like an alien the way she looked at me!

what ever you do dont show them this site they will think your really nuts

It sounds like your mom is missing the magic.:)

My mom clucks her tongue everytime she sees me. She says "Do you have EVERYTHING in Mickey now?", because I usually wearing something Disney. Then she hands me something else with Mickey on it for me (usually a shirt or something). She doesn't get Disney, but she doesn't insult me because of my love of Disney.

That's sad when people just don't get it. They're missing out on so much.

Our families don't get it either. We just ignore them and continue to go because it makes us and our kids happy.

winniedapooh, your story almost sounds like it could be a TV commercial, LOL, a mom 'not getting it', but somehow, someway, one day, 'getting it'. Your mom is not at the end of the commercial yet.::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Don't tell her about your DIS friends.

My family is the same way. People ask why? I tell them it's clean, it's safe and it's fun - something for everybody. We go to the beach alot and see of bunch of bimbos wearing thongs and people drunk & cussing, this is not the atmosphere I want for my kids. I agree with Lewski709 though, don't tell them about DISboards they'll think you're nuts!

Oh goodness - join the club!:earsboy:

DH and I LOVE WDW, but his entire side of the family thinks we're wacky. But THEY are the wacky ones - they've never even BEEN there - so how can they knock it?

We look at it as a good thing - keeps the undesirables out.;)
