My Fairy Tale Weddings Vow Renewal Trip Planning Session…

Oh, I hate to be off-topic but I just returned from taking my daughter to Tae Kwon Do class (she recently became a second-degree Blue Belt, the little bruiser). As we walked up to our townhouse door, I saw a beautiful floral arrangement sitting there all by itself. I noticed immediately that it was an arrangement of daisies. I thought to myself, “Wow, my favorite flowers!”

We brought the floral arrangement inside and I had my daughter read the card to me. She got very excited when she saw that the card had been signed by my Event Manager. I had to laugh out loud because if my recent vacation request hadn’t been squashed by my new boss, I would have been spending the week in Florida, with a few days all by myself at the Grand Floridian Resort.

I had mentioned that two weeks ago in an e-mail message to my Event Manager. I told him that if my vacation request had been approved, I was going to ask him to join me for hot dogs at Casey’s in the Magic Kingdom (he’s as big a fan of Casey’s hot dogs as I am). Alas, my vacation request was turned down, and there are no Casey’s hot dogs for me. But it was awfully sweet of my Event Manager to send me my favorite flowers in order to cheer me up. Sure, they’re not Casey’s hot dogs, but at least they won’t be adding inches to my waistline (and will last a lot longer than any hot dog would in my presence). What a wonderful surprise from a wonderful man.

Edited on 2/2/05: I came home from work this evening to find a stuffed Mickey Mouse ::MickeyMo plush toy and an adorable card waiting for me. It appears that the florist forgot to deliver the second part of my Event Manager's gift the other day. As I always say, better late than never! And now I have my very own Mickey Mouse doll to sleep with this evening. Psssst...Please don't tell my husband that I plan on sleeping with another man -- he's jealous enough of the Big Cheese as it is. ;)

Well, darn those turned down requests!!

Congratulations to DD!! WooHOO!! :) :) :)

:cheer2:

Franck’s Bridal Studio…

Before I knew it, my Event Manager’s vehicle was entering Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings complex. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this area, it sits next to the stately Grand Floridian Resort.

The Fairy Tale Weddings complex is comprised of two parts. The main part, of course, is the Wedding Pavilion. The pavilion actually sits on a little island that is connected to the rest of the complex via a walking bridge. The second part of the complex is Franck’s Bridal Studio. The bridal studio sits along the shoreline of Seven Seas Lagoon. To get a better idea of the layout of the Fairy Tale Weddings complex, please click here to view a map of the Grand Floridian Resort. Franck’s Bridal Studio and the Wedding Pavilion are located towards the bottom of that map.

My Event Manager pulled up in front of Franck’s. He temporarily parked his vehicle underneath the porte cochere so that he could quickly escort us into the building.

Franck’s is really lovely inside. To see a 360-degree virtual reality view of the bridal studio, please click here. Disney claims that Franck’s is a re-creation of the wedding studio from the Touchstone movie "Father of the Bride." And in case you’re wondering what else may have been re-created from the movie, I can assure you that the Sales Managers and Wedding Planners sound nothing like Franck Eggelhoffer (a.k.a., Martin Short). Their grasp of the English language is actually quite good.

Since I was with my Event Manager, there was no need for me to check in at the reception desk. However, since my Event Manager is a true professional, he introduced me to the Cast Member who was working there. She was very nice.

When my Event Manager left us to go park his vehicle, it gave the ladies and me a little time to peruse the items inside the bridal studio. Franck’s is filled with all sorts of wondrous things: wedding cakes, wedding dresses, table settings, table linens, china, bouquets, centerpieces, and a myriad of other items. You should have heard a few of the gasps that escaped from our throats as we found item after item that took our breath away. If anyone would have heard those gasps, they probably would have had a hard time believing that all four of us were well-established married ladies (a.k.a, old married ladies). I found our enthusiasm just too cute for words. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined any of us being as giddy as schoolgirls, and yet that is exactly what we were.

Located in the center area of the studio was a small table that was beautifully decorated. When I was a little girl, pink was my favorite color. Any wedding that I might have envisioned would have had a table decorated such as that one: click here. But as I grew older, my favorite color morphed into three very different colors: red, white, and navy blue. Because of my change in taste, there would be no pink table settings at my vow renewal’s dinner party, even though the one at Franck’s was stunning.

Upon the pink table sat a few elegant enhancements: click here. There were pink silk roses, clear glass crystals, and silver glass balls arranged together inside an etched glass vase. What a lovely centerpiece it made. There were also clear glass votives scattered about the table in order to add a little romantic ambience. A place card was held in place atop a stained-glass castle, truly befitting anyone’s fairy tale wedding reception.

The pink table also held more businesslike items: click here. What I mean by businesslike is really the simple fact that people are at your reception for one main reason – to eat. And to eat they need the appropriate tools – plates, silverware, and glassware. You can’t get any more businesslike than that. Or can you? If your name is Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, you can easily turn those ordinary implements into extraordinary ones (and you thought they only turned pumpkins into glass carriages).

As I took a look at the table setting, I noticed a glass charger that was edged in silver balls. It was striking. There was nothing plain about the plate, either. Upon closer inspection, I found the plate was white china with a raised border and a lightly scalloped edge. It looked elegant atop the charger. To top it all off sat a pink napkin that was tied with pink crystals. Everything blended together beautifully. I would have been proud to have had a place setting such as that at my vow renewal, except for the simple fact that I really thought it would clash with the Western motif of the Great Movie Ride where my dinner party would be held. I didn’t think Cow Folks used anything that citified out on the range, ~sigh.~

Also on display inside Franck’s were a few styles of chairs and chair covers. At the pink table sat two standard chairs that were covered in different white chair covers. Each of those chairs was adorned with different sashes, too. At another table sat a few more chairs: click here. Those chairs were called chiavari chairs, and we saw examples of them in gold and silver. A chiavari chair would definitely add an elegant touch to any affair.

Bonzie1 had fun checking out the many items that were found inside the display cases: click here. There were examples of announcements, invitations, place cards, place card holders, confetti, ceremony programs, unity candles, and so on.

There were two wedding gowns on display. Nutz4dzny had fun posing next to one of them: click here. I think all four of us ladies found that dress positively captivating. I have no idea who the designer was, but I’m sure they must have had fun designing the “bouquet of roses” skirt. I wished I could have been the type of person who would have worn such a creation, but my tastes were much too simple and I would have felt out of place in it.

There were many examples of wedding cakes on display. They ranged from the whimsical to the sublime:
Wedding Cake # 1
Wedding Cake # 2
Wedding Cake # 3
Wedding Cake # 4 (a domed cake may be seen on the left-hand side of the photo)

On the table with the castle cake sat examples of a few of the mini-cakes. Like their larger counterparts, they also ranged from the whimsical to the sublime:
Mini-Wedding Cake # 1
Mini-Wedding Cake # 2
Mini-Wedding Cake # 3
Mini-Wedding Cake # 4

The mini-cakes came in both one- and two-tiered versions. Some were fanciful and some were elegant. All were elaborately detailed. The mini-cakes were complete wedding cakes in every sense of the word except for size – they were designed to serve just one person. To give you a feeling as to their size, please click here.

With cakes so beautifully proportioned, I felt positive that none of my guests would say, “Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs.” The mini-cakes were perfection. As I viewed them, I decided right then and there to have them served at my vow renewal’s dinner party.

Now that I’ve shown you various examples of cakes, both large and small, I have only one thing left to say before I end this post: Got milk?

And since it might be a few days before I post again, I’ll give you something to keep you occupied:
Got Milk? Commercials (check them out)
Got Milk? Kids (play the trivia game)
Got Milk? Ad # 1 (spy kids love milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 2 (older spies love milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 3 (martial arts stars like milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 4 (my broken bones like milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 5 (sexy ladies like milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 6 (folks in makeup like milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 7 (the King likes milk)
Got Milk? Ad # 8 (Cirque stars like milk)

And finally,
Got Milk? At Walt Disney World (Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex likes milk)

Siiiiigggghhhhhh!! What fun you must have had! And what memories!

Thanks for sharing this amazing experience with all of us. I'm in big trouble if my two dd's find out about Disney Fairytale Weddings! (dd16's favorite ride is GMR and she is a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan - you two would have been dangerous together!)

Thanks again, Janet! Your latest installments were just wonderful - I really enjoyed hearing about your menu tasting session and your experience at Franck's (I was always curious to see what it looked like, in there - it looks just beautiful!)! Your photos are just wonderful, as always, and it's so great to be able to continue this virtual "journey" with you and your friends and family! Looking forward to hearing about what came next! :)

just awesome, janet! thank you for taking us with you on such a special journey... i'm looking forward to what happens next! THANKS! ::MinnieMo

Janet, my head is swimming with fantasies of what you are detailing. Don't they have the nicest people working at Disney? I have never come home to flowers and such but postcards have arrived from my Disney friends. I think they like to be appreciated as much as they appreciate us. You would be hard to forget anyway.

All the parties and such are special but the most special thing of all is the fact that you and your hubby would do it all again, and have. Is a gift beyond measure.

Your parade watching buddy, SG

BTW, do not ever try to take pictures of the parade through the railing at the train station. LOL

Oh my! I just read all of your installments today and I'm hooked!! More! Lol!!

I'm definitely living vicariously... ;)

janet2k i have loved, loved, loved reading your disney vow renewal thread, it has been so enjoyable! we are getting married at wdw in 2006, custom wedding at yc gazebo, ariels, epcot dessert party, etc and your true life romance & wedding vow renewal experience, have so put me at ease. what a wonderful vow renewal you had! congratulations & best wishes for you & your husbands future!

Franck’s Bridal Studio – Cake Tasting…

After browsing through many of the items that were on display inside Franck’s Bridal Studio, it was time to get down to the business at hand. The following little song popped into my head:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"If I Knew You Were Comin’ I'd've Baked A Cake"
(click here for music)
Lyrics and Music by Bob Merrill, Al Hoffman, and Clem Watts
Performed by Bing Crosby and Bob Hope

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
baked a cake, baked a cake
If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Howd-ya do, howd-ya do, howd-ya do

Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band
Grandest band in the land
Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band
And spread the welcome mat for you

Now I don't know where you came from
'cause I don't know where you've been
But it really doesn't matter
Grab a chair and fill your platter
And dig, dig, dig right in

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Hired a band, goodness sake
If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Howd-ya do, howd-ya do, howd-ya do

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
baked a cake, baked a cake
If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Howd-ya do, howd-ya do, howd-ya do

Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band
Grandest band in the land
Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band
Spread the welcome mat for you

Oh, I don't know where you came from
'Cause I don't know where you've been
But it really doesn't matter
Grab a chair and fill your platter
And dig, dig, dig right in

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Hired a band, goodness sake
If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Howd-ya do, howd-ya do, howd-ya do

Howd-ya do, howd-ya do, howd-ya do
Howd-ya do-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

Since I love sweets, I had especially been looking forward to the next item on my Fairy Tale Weddings Vow Renewal Planning Session Agenda:

Planning Session Agenda:
11:45 am – 12:15 pm: Franck’s Bridal Studio - Merryweather Room

Janet & Friends
Janet’s Event Manager, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Cake Tasting

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The second half of my Planning Session would take place inside the Merryweather Conference Room. For those of you who haven’t been inside Franck’s Bridal Studio, I should mention that this conference room resides there.
The Merryweather Conference Room was a tastefully decorated room. Inside it sat a nice-sized conference table and enough chairs to accommodate my entire party plus the Cast Members who would be joining us there throughout the afternoon.
I am going to re-post below a little background information:
- - - - - - - - - -
Shortly after I had FAXed my planning packet, I received the following e-mail from my Event Manager’s assistant:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Janet, I received your planning session information. I noticed that you do not know what type of cake and flavor you are going to have for your wedding. For the planning session, do you want us to choose some cake and filling flavors for you to taste? Please let me know since our bakery usually requires 2 weeks notice before a planning session.

Have a Magical Day!
Your Event Manager’s Assistant
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Boy, if he had asked me if I wanted ketchup or mustard for my hot dog, I could have answered him in a heartbeat (neither – I like ‘em plain). But since he had asked me what cake and filling flavors I wanted, well, with me, the sky’s the limit. I haven’t met a cake or a filling that I don’t like. Asking for my favorite cake/filling flavors was like asking me which of my two children was my favorite. I have no favorites. I love my children (and my cake/filling flavors) equally:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Event Manager’s Assistant,

I have no idea what I want for the cake. The only request I have is that the cake/filling not contain nuts or coconut, as I am allergic to both of those items. If the Bakery could provide some samples of various flavors of cakes and fillings, that would be wonderful.

Janet

Before my Planning Session, that e-mail exchange was the only time the topic of wedding cakes had been discussed with me. My only request was that nuts and coconut not be used in the cakes and fillings that would be presented to me due to my food allergies (note: that video clip will take a little while to load). Other than that, the entire cake topic was an open book for me.

Now that it was time for the Cake Tasting, I was curious to see what cake and filling selections the Grand Floridian Bakery had provided. My guess was that they would be the most popular flavors, and that was perfectly fine with me. I knew that if I didn’t like any of them, the Bakery would work with me to accommodate my needs. I didn't have a care in the world.

As I entered the Merryweather Conference Room, I noticed a platter sitting in the middle of the conference room table. That platter contained the following selections of cakes (click here): yellow, chocolate, and marble (a yellow and chocolate combination). I also saw teardrop-shaped cups that contained the following selections of fillings: strawberry, Bailey’s Irish Cream, milk chocolate, and white chocolate. As expected, my Event Manager informed me that these were the most popular cake and filling flavors. I was pleased with the selection that sat before me; everything looked yummy.

My Event Manager asked if we wanted something refreshing to drink. My beverage of choice would have been a glass of milk, but I knew that wouldn’t be an option so I didn’t ask for it. My second choice would have been a can of Pepsi, but I knew that wouldn’t be an option either so I kept quiet about it. There was one beverage, however, that I knew would be possible and so I asked for a Coca-Cola. My Event Manager was happy to oblige me. The ladies asked for cold water.

My Event Manager soon returned with our beverages and cups to pour them into. Then someone knocked on the conference room door and my Event Manager let them in. It was my Sales Manager. She was carrying a pink gift bag which she placed before me. What a very unexpected surprise. I was touched. She only stayed a moment and then she was gone. I was sorry to see her go, but I was happy that she had spent as much time with us that day as she had. My Sales Manager is an absolute doll, and I will forever be in her debt for everything that she did for my Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal.

The ladies and I were sipping our beverages when my Event Manager handed me a large photo album (note: view the wedding cake slideshow on that webpage) that contained photographs of various styles of wedding cakes. The cakes shown in that book ranged from the simple to the sublime. I saw cakes that were decorated with fruits; cakes that were decorated with flowers; and cakes that were decorated with more fanciful items (bride & groom figurines, Mickey & Minnie Mouse figurines, butterflies, ribbons, and so on). There were even a few photographs of whimsical Groom’s Cakes. I was amazed by everything I saw. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, please take a look at the following slideshows: Food Network and Sylvia Weinstock. The cakes shown in those slideshows were indicative of what Disney’s pastry chefs could create.

I must admit that the photos in the cake album that really caught my eye were the ones of the miniature wedding cakes. After having personally viewed a few of those cakes inside Franck’s Bridal Studio that afternoon (mini-cake #1, mini-cake #2, mini-cake #3, and mini-cake #4), I had pretty much made up my mind that a miniature cake would be served at my vow renewal’s dinner party. Since my guests would be enjoying their desserts inside the Land of Oz, a munchkin-sized dessert was in order. There wasn’t a more appropriate dessert for such a whimsical location than a miniature wedding cake. The only question remaining in my mind was which miniature cake style to choose?

As I sat inside the Merryweather Conference Room, I quickly narrowed down my miniature cake choices to three: the Cinderella Castle cake, the Underwater-Themed cake, and the Mickey Mouse Ears cake. Those three cakes all caught my fancy.

The castle cake was initially in the lead because there was no place other than Walt Disney World where a cake topped with a replica of Cinderella Castle could be served. But since my dinner party wasn’t being held inside the Magic Kingdom Theme Park, I decided that cake wasn’t appropriate for my event. My list was now down to two cakes: the Underwater-Themed cake and the Mickey Mouse Ears cake.

As much as I loved the Underwater-Themed cake, I knew it would look out of place inside the Great Movie Ride. That meant the only logical choice for my event would be the Mickey Mouse Ears cake. The more I thought about it, the more confident I felt regarding my decision to choose it. The original icon for the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park had been the Earffel (or Earful) Tower. That cake definitely reminded me of the tower. It was truly the perfect choice for an event inside the theme park.

I tried to visualize the expressions upon my guests’ faces as the miniature cakes were placed before them on the night of my party. I knew their expressions would be priceless. And so with a smile upon my face, I felt at peace with my decision. Since I hadn’t planned any “Disney” touches for my vow renewal just yet, a cake topped by mouse ears would be the perfect way to incorporate a little bit of Disney magic into my event.

With the hard part out of the way, the fun could now begin. It was time to finally taste the cakes and fillings that had been sitting on the table before us. My thoughts quickly turned back to the following song verse:

“Now I don't know where you came from
'cause I don't know where you've been
But it really doesn't matter
Grab a chair and fill your platter
And dig, dig, dig right in”

The ladies and I did exactly that as we began sampling the goodies from the Grand Floridian Bakery.

I started with the yellow cake and the strawberry filling. I proclaimed both of them delicious. The ladies started with the yellow cake and the white chocolate filling. WeFullTime, Nutz4dzny, and Bonzie1 were in perfect unison with their enthusiastic “Yum’s!”

I then moved onto the yellow cake with the white chocolate filling. Another delicious combination, but the strawberry filling still held a slight edge with me.

The ladies moved onto other cake and filling selections. The yum’s continued to escape from their mouths as they tasted combination after combination. It was fun listening to their moans; however, after a bit I began to feel like the restaurant patron in the movie “When Harry Met Sally.” I wanted to say to my Event Manager, “I’ll have what she’s having” (click here).

With each bite of cake and filling, it was getting harder and harder for me to make a decision. When Nutz4dzny polled everyone in the room for their favorite cake and filling combination, the ladies’ response was unanimous, “White with white.” Since I still preferred the strawberry filling, I was wavering with my decision.

Then my husband’s face popped into my head. After 22 years of being a couple, I knew he was strictly a yellow cake and white chocolate filling kinda guy. It was at that point that it became crystal clear to me what cake and filling choices I needed to make. So, in honor of my husband and my dear friends, I told my Event Manager that I wanted the yellow cake and the white chocolate filling to be used for the miniature wedding cakes at my vow renewal’s dinner party. It felt good to have that scrumptious decision out of the way.

The cake with the mouse ears was a wonderful choice...and the White on white in honor of your dear hubbie was a great idea too....

Thanks for continuing to share .... :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Over the past year or two, many of you have asked me for pricing information regarding the events that my family has experienced while vacationing in Walt Disney World. When I began sharing information about those events, I made the conscious decision to keep the pricing information private. My fear was that if I began sharing the pricing information, the events would become more about their cost and less about their experience. I did not want that to happen and thus chose to keep mum. I want to thank you for your understanding in this matter.

I will share the pricing information regarding the miniature wedding cakes that were served at my vow renewal’s dinner party. The miniature cake pricing information has become somewhat public over the past year so it is safe to share what Disney charged me. Here goes…

On my final bill, the Mini-Wedding Cakes’ cost breakdown was as follows:

Mini-Wedding Cakes charge was $625 ($25 per cake x 25 guests = $625)
Sales Tax charge for Mini-Cakes was $40.63
Gratuity charge was $173.75
Sales Tax charge for Gratuity was $11.29

When all was said and done, the cost for 25 miniature wedding cakes came to $850.67. That works out to $34.03 a cake. Because I had three guests drop out at the last minute, I was still charged for all 25 cakes. That meant my per cake cost was slightly higher ($38.67). As the French say, C’est la vie (such is life). ;)
