I've seen people asking about Thrifty fairly reguarly, and recently we used them for a weekend rental, so I thought I'd share my experience. I usually get one of the onsite places (or Hertz) via Priceline, but this time Thrifty had a good rate so we decided to give them a try. We always see their buses at MCO, so we knew getting to the office wouldn't be a problem. They are located right next to Hertz via the North Exit of MCO, so it's a fairly short ride. We arrived early in the morning, so the line was non-existent and there were plenty of counter people. We were waited on immediately, and check in went smoothly. I had booked via Orbitz for the cheapest car level, but they upgraded me one class, to a Cavelier. They were slightly pushy about the insurance, but not overly so...just ask a couple of times. The car was clean and in good shape, with 1000 miles on it. Surprisingly, they did not try to sell me the upgrade like the other places almost always do. They just have it to me.
When I book via Priceline, the places want $5 for my husband to be added as a driver. At Thrifty, they told me my spouse is free (although he prefers it if I play chauffer anyway).
We returned it pretty late in the evening, so again, no wait. We filled it with gas on Boggy Creek at the Circle K because the nearby gas station really gouges you. We just caught the bus to the airport as it was pulling away. All in all, a painless experience. I imagine the waits can get pretty bad at peak time, but if the price was right, I would rent from Thrifty again.
