I hate to say it but I am not in love with my ring. The chunkiness of it bothers me and I will not be able to have a normal wedding band . It won't be able to be straight across it will have to have like a groove in it so that it can fit with the ring. I don't want a space in between my engagement ring and the wedding band.

Please tell me I am not crazy and you think that the setting is too big for my diamond. Here is a picture. I feel like the setting takes away from the diamond.

I wish it didn't bother me so much, this has me so depressed today cause I have been stressing about this for a year and now that I started looking at wedding bands I hate it even more.

I think that the ring looks like a legos ring, Ican't explain it. I just don't think that it is sleek there are too many gaps,I hate it.

Oh I think it is gorgeous...but you need to love it! Did you pick it out or did DF? Will he be upset if you get a different one?? GL! I don't know if I'd be happy with a space between my e-ring and my band, but others don't seem to mind.

Not that I can add too much, we haven't even gotten an ring yet! Maybe after we pay for the wedding! :rotfl: But, DF doesn't like any e-ring with a fancy setting...just a plain ol' solitare, no diamonds/jewels on the side...we'll see!

I wish I did get a solitaire now. We had it custom made at the jewelers this is what it was supposed to look like, the second one from the right..

but stupid me felt too bad to not say anything and heve them fix it...I think that I am just going to get it reset.

You could have them redo the head and use a more dainty looking mount. The prongs could be much slimmer. But I love your ring. It isn't that hard to make a band to fit up against it. I had to leave my e-ring at my jewelers this past weekend:sad: so that they could make my bands to fit it. I am having a yellow gold added to each side of my e-ring for the two-toned effect. If you look at mine, you can see why I have to have it custom made. The jeweler is also making my DF's to get it to coordinate with mine and ve the way he wants it. We won't get them back until a few days before we leave for Disney so I don't know if I will get a chance to post pictures before we leave or not. I will try.

All they have to do is cast a mold of your ring then they can pour a band to match or coordinate with it.

Its imporant that your happy with your ring. Can you go back to the person who made the ring and have them adjust it or just reset it?

I think your ring is gorgeous! I agree with the other poster that maybe you can just have the center mount changed so it is not so chunky, but again, I love your ring.

I have a custom ring too and was worried about the band...I did not want a band that "fit" the engagement setting, I wanted a plain band...with a few diamonds of course ;) . The band that I wound up getting was custom made to match my ring. I love it!

I am starting to babble and not sure if I am making sense but I hope this helps! :)

PS: I am going to post my rings on the Ering board if you are interested in checking it out...:)

LMAO at Lego ring. I can see what you're saying about the chunkiness and gaps. It doesn't have the daintiness as some of them. I do think it's pretty, but if it's not your style it's not your style! Have you talked to FI about it? I can kind of relate. My FI set mine in a 6-prong solitaire for a few reasons. One of them was that he didn't know what setting to get so wanted to make sure that I liked it. Another was for money purposes. Being the frugal person I am, I told him that it was fantastic and since he bought it for me that I was going to just keep the solitaire for sentimental reasons.

Well...it's just a plain solitaire which you wouldnt think was a problem, but bands didn't fit against it since it's 6-prong. I realized I hated the gap and did NOT want a curved band. I don't think there's anything wrong with them, just SO not me. Even though he had tossed out the idea of me resetting it, I still felt odd bringing it up. Remember though that you're going to have to wear it for the rest of your life! It's better to pay the extra now and have it reset then end up getting a band that you ALSO don't like. I would definitely bring it up. It's not like you have to get rid of the diamond too! So talk to FI and tell us what happens!

I did want to add that I think it's a good idea to take it back to the jeweler that made it and see if they can just change the center mount. That would save quite a bit of money instead of getting a whole new setting. The center mount it possibly what's causing the band to not fit flush.

I'm not gonna say anything new but I think it's important that you be reassured! Your ring is georgous!! I agree that the prongs could be thinner, and that you should speak to the jeweler who made it about either thinning them down [not sure if they do this?] or possibly getting a smaller mount. The setting itself is lovely, it seems to just be the prongs to me. I agree with the curved band......ok for some but soooo not me! Hope everything works out!:cool1:

Thank you girls. Tim and I have talked about changing it when we first got it. I am afraid to go back to the jewelers we got it from because I don't want to be a pain and I got the ring like a year ago. I am too embarrased to go back:(

Tim wants to take care of it tomprrow since we are both off but I don't know I am nervous...oh yeah and I went to a lot of jewelery stores in the mall and they are having showcases where they have a jeweler come in and they bring a lot of settings and they reset it in fron t of you but that makes me nervous too. Are the mall jewelery stores ok?

Don't be nervous!!! Custom rings cost big bucks and since DF spent so much you deserve to be 100% satisfied with the end result! :goodvibes Their JOB is to make you happy!! Be polite and gracious and they won't care, they'll be happy to help you! Now as far as mall stores goes it depends......I have a Barons Jewelers, a Kays and a Zales in my local mall and all 3 are awesome. If your going with a mall store i'd suggest going with one that has a name brand, such as Kays or Zales. Again Good Luck and don't be nervous!:)

Hey Lynn,
First, I just want to tell you that your ring is soo goreous.
Secondly, I went through the same kind of thing with my initial e-ring. At first I was afraid to say anything but then I finally did. The oringinal wasn't quite 'me'-although it was stunning. So my DF suggested we go to have it redesigned. I did, and it was going to be nearly $3000 on top of what he paid (just to change some settings and switch out a faulty diamond). At first we went for it, but then I changed my mind and went back to cancel the order. We just ended up choosing one together that we equally loved, similiar to the original, but more 'me'. The one I have now is perfect, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I HIGHLY suggest getting it altered to changed if your aren't 100% happy with it. You will be wearing it your entire life, so it needs to be perfect for you.

Good luck,Maggie

Hi Lynn,
I think your ring is beautiful, but I agree, the prongs could be thinner. I personally wouldn't want a gap in between my ring and wedding band either and if it was there it would bother me and I would just end up obsessing over it. I think you should definitely take it back and let them fix it. Like everyone else said, you will be wearing it so its really important that you love it. Don't be nervous, I'm sure you're not the first person who has come back for this type of request. The most important thing is that you are happy with it. Good luck! :goodvibes

Well I agree with everyone above, your ring is absolutely beautiful. Custom rings always are. But the prongs could be thinner...thats too funny about lego-ring. :) I have a similar setting, but my main diamond is a little smaller. I have smaller prongs and a very tight setting and love it. So I would definately take it back to the original people and see what they can do. Don't be embarassed!! Its their JOB to make you happy! :) Who cares if its a year later?? If they can't do anything I would definately take it into one of the mall stores, they are very reliable. I got my ring from Zales and have had no problems thus far.

Most of all, your ring should be something you love 110%. Don't ever settle. :) It is wonderful your DF understands. Best of luck hun! :)

OK girls,we just got back from the jewelers,I had the ring cleaned so it looks so much better but anyway he is going to shave the prongs down on each side and in order for the gap to go away we have to upgrade to 3/4 diamond and 10 pointers on the sides, now it will all blend in together.

Thank you for all your help,I feel so much better now..... I am nervous about switching my diamond out cause its a vs quality and I don;t want to go bigger and lose qaulity but he is getting 3/4 vs in so hopefully it will all work out.

I can either keep the old diamond or they buy it back so it doesn't cost so much for the new diamond.ahhhh I am so nervous but excited at the same time..I also feel so shallow:(

glad you were able to get it worked out! :)

don't feel shallow...it is, after all YOUR ring and YOU are the one that has to love it! :thumbsup2

Lynn- I am so happy that you found a compromise that you like. However, I have to tell you that your jeweler is full of bologna...All they have to do us cut the old head out and replace it with a smaller, more dainty head. You don't HAVE to upgrade anything. A change in heads should be less than $100. They just want to suck more $$ out of you. Now, if you want me to keep quite and go for the upgrade, I will remove my post ! :goodvibes Just let me know !

I think because of the way my setting is it would have to be either I get a new setting or they can just shave the prongs down, I need bigger diamonds to close the gaps next to the side diamonds...I hope that he would have told me that I could change if he knew it could be done,he has been honest with us through everything..I don't know I have to stop worrying about this.
