My DS's school is on strike as of 2 days ago. we got a recorded message today stating that school may not start on Wed. as planned! I wonder what's going to happen.....

what state are you in. I'm a teacher and we do everything possible to not strike is it contract related?

I truthfully have no idea what the strike is over :confused3 . I live in Ohio. They have some meeting scheduled for tonight, so we'll see what happens.

When I was in school back in IL it seemed every year right before school started the teachers would go on strike. They usually had it resolved the day before we went back, but a few times it lasted a week or two. In that case, they just added the missed days to the end of the school year, or squeezed them in during teacher work days. Throw in some snow days as well and sometimes we went longer. However, I think they actually built in more days in anticipation of snow, storms, etc as I recall getting out about the same time at the end of the year (I think they were able to "miss" a few days???

Three years ago our schools were closed for 3 1/2 weeks due to a strike. They started the school year and then two weeks later went out. It was a real hardship for many parents, especially those who worked. There are over 7000 students in our district, so the area merchants did their best to help out with special programs, etc.

Hopefully, yours will be resolved soon.

A strike stinks for everyone involved, including the teachers...that being said, we've had 2 strikes since dd's been in school. One of them lasted over 1 week and they resolved it by not having a spring break. A good friend of mine was going to WDW. Families were not penalized in any way, as reservations were made so far in advance.

Here's some pixiedust: I hope everything is resolved soon!

well they had a meeting today, that was only suppose to last 2 hours and end at 4pm, well at 6:30 the news came on and the meeting was still going on. They had another school meeting at 7, so they decided to move the rest of the meeting to Monday. My son is suppose to meet his teacher on Monday but that got cancelled. I really hope they start when they're suppose to because we are already leaving early in the school year (september 10-17).
