Not that I'm a big lush......but I've found that even a little recreational drinking, at this point, gives me WAY too much of a headache next day. We very rarely drink...don't keep much in the house, maybe a 12 pack in case people drop by and then it will last months.
Before Christmas we met friends for dinner and I had 2 beers....massive headache next day.
Last night I had 3 glasses of zinfandel...headache AND stomachache today. Just starting to ease off at 4 PM.
I guess my tolerance just dropped too far. Or maybe at 45, it's just time to hang it up, except for the occasional "boat drink" at a restaurant.

I, too, have noticed that as I get older the number of drinks (beer, for me) I can handle gets fewer. One or two is okay, three or four is a lot and anything over four is a binge. I don't drink every day, maybe a few times a week, if that. Maybe it's lack of practice?

Unfortunately we can't bounce back the way we used to! :sad2:

I made the decision to give up alcohol a couple months ago...haven't had a drink in almost 4 months. There are several reasons why I made that decision, but the fact that alcohol gives me migraines and I'm on medication that I'm not supposed to drink with are 2 pretty good reasons to stop.

Good luck! Sounds as if your body is telling you what's best.

I'm right there with ya. I have completely lost my tolerance, so not only do I start to slur my words after two glasses of wine ( I LOVE Zinfandel, too..the red only, and that is stronger than other wines..) and I get a headache the next a.m., too. I have found that if I pop two aspirin before I go to bed, I do much better when I have just had a glass or two..more than that I feel awful no matter what. I can't enjoy my Margaritas anymore either, I know any amount of tequila is gonna get me in the morning.

i have needed to learn that lesson for many years, and i keep messing it up.

I will sometimes have a Key Lime rum & 7up after work...maybe once a week. Last night I had 2 beers and had a pounding headache this morning! (I don't know if it was the beer or the 3am to bed) :confused3
One glass of wine will put me under the table! Go figure! :sad2:

Except for an occasional small glass of wine (hum - I can count them on one hand for one year if not more) we don't drink. Just doesn't give me pleasure and it certainly doesn't make me feel good afterwards.

I told my DD16 last night to look at the girl in a short black dress and heels throwing up at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas last night to remember what she looks like and hopefully she can picture this image if she thinks about drinking some day.

I haven't had a drink since June due to the medication that I'm on. I must admit, I miss having a beer when I want one. :(

I opened a bottle of wine when I was wrapping presents. First one I've opened in a year! And it's still only half gone! While I do love a cold beer on a hot day, I just usually don't seem to care any more. When I think about how much we used to spend in a liquor store .. weekly .. when I was younger, whew! But, I did have a lot more company then! :goodvibes

I drink a lot less often than I used to, but my tolerance seems to have improved and I rarely get hangovers anymore. I drank my friends under the table last night and only had a mild headache this morning that vanished as soon as I got a couple of Advil Liqui-gels, some Diet Pepsi, and a little food in me. My BF, on the other hand, is 5 years younger than I am and gets wicked nasty hangovers pretty much anytime he drinks. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. :)

I'm there too. I drank a little wine on Thanksgiving and starting feeling really hot and flushed as we were eating. And it left a burning sensation in my stomach. We bought a pack of wine coolers this week and everytime I drank one, I ended up feeling weird. I've never been a big drinker and I'm thinking I don't need to drink anymore at all. I just turned 44 on Tuesday so maybe it's just my time to turn into a lightweight!

For me it depends on what I'm drinking. I had several glasses of Piesporter last night and I feel fine today. I had to give up some other drinks though.

Maybe it is lack of practice! :)

I find that it is better to be the person who chooses not to drink. It not only keeps my head level, but at later dates I can blackmail those around me with embarassing details of their shenanigans (just kidding)!

I'm no lush but I enjoy a few glasses of wine on nights like NYE or Christmas. I don't drink anything other than Chablis but I have found that even 2 glasses makes me feel like crap the next day. I started buying Chaser Plus for Wine pills and tada....no feeling like crap. You take 2 with your first drink and then 1 every hour or so. I only take the 2 and never wake up feeling horrible. They also have just Chaser Plus for the rest of alcoholic beverages and I know they work thanks to many Jimmy Buffett concerts in Vegas!:thumbsup2

I'm in the same boat. Not that it's going to keep me from a Lapu Lapu, but I just can't drink like the old days anymore.

I used to be a drinker but am 9 months pg, it seems like it has been a long time!

I definitely enjoy having a few drinks, but it has been nice and a lot more productive to not wake up with a hangover.

I read another thread on this board where a poster swears by ginger chews, she gets from Whole Foods or World Market.

Might not be a bad idea to bring some along on the next trip, just in case! :drinking1

DH gets a headache after drinking wines with a lot of sulfates- Maybe check into lower sulfate, or organic wines?

I rarely get a headache hangover. Mine are sick to my stomach type. I've managed to pinpoint the alcohols that make me ill. Tequila, and Gin are the worst, along w/ white wines. Weird because I had never had an issue w/ tequila till about a year ago, but by the 2nd time getting REALLY sick from it, I knew--now I can't even stand the smell.
