During our last visit to OKW I was in the gift shop talking to a CM when a lady walked in and seemed to be on a first name basis with everyone. I asked the CM if she was at the resort for a long period of time and he told me that she is there every year from mid December to April. That was awesome and it would be a dream for me to be able to relax at a DVC resort for such a nice period of time. It seems that every time we go there is never enough time.

My dream would be to be able to stay at a DVC resort for at least one month every winter. I am thankful that someday I will be able to do this but it is just so far from being a reality that it is frustrating. I don't want to wish my life away but I think about it often.

What is your DVC dream?

My BIL and SIL plan on doing this, but at SSR. I looked at the points and it would take A LOT to do this. Or do they get special monthly point rates? I just calculated Dec-Feb(I figured 12 weeks) and got 2258 for a 1 BR (@2767 for mid Dec-March)...MFs would be $14300 for 2750 points. :scared1:

My dream is to do 2 more trips by the time all 3 of my kids are graduated from HS (2017)...in a 2BR for 6-7 nights. Want to try BCV, BLT and AKV (in that order of preference). Would like the next trip to be 2013, but probably won't be until 2014. Would also like to do HHI this summer and then add some more HHI points on w/in the next year or so.

I was talking to a very nice lady in the hot tub at OKW the other day. She and her husband come to WDW for 3 months (Jan, Feb, March). She said buying that many points was cheaper and less hassle than buying a home or condo, plus no worries about maintenance or anything. They are staying in a 1 br at OKW for January, then moving to AKV for the rest. Sounds like a great plan to me!

As much as I love WDW, I don't think I'd even want to do this. For upwards of 2600 points (to stay 3 months), the MFs come out to be over $4000/month.

I'm sure there are really nice rentals that are alot cheaper than $4000 for a 1bedroom.

If I had 2600 pts, I might alternate between cruising and staying onsite depending on how far the points stretch.

It is nice, though, to see that some people use DVC points as a part of their retirement.

So thinking more about this...I wouldn't mind going for 1 month every winter...from right after Thanksgiving to right before Christmas...comes to 662 points. That would be sweet! Or maybe the month of Feb, which would be 842 points. MFs would be way more, though, than renting a regular condo for a month. Ah...it's a nice dream though.

Wow that sounds awesome! :cool1:

It sounds like a nice idea, but I can't see the cost being worth it. For what you'd pay both in purchase price and, ultimately, maintenance fees - you could get a great 2BR Condo or Apt. rental in the Kissimmee area and drive to WDW in 10 minutes.

The issue with a 1BR is we'd want to be able to have friends and family visit. For the $14,000+ in maintenance fees, I think I could find something very nice or as good for about half over 3 months.

My plan would be to stay in a studio while using the public areas to read to relax. That would really cut down on the points. I would stay for lets say February the first year and January next year. Staggering the months like this would enable us to buy an annual pass and use it for both years. I would also perhaps miss the first and last weekend of the month to save on points.
