I've had a rough couple weeks. I went to visit my sister in chicago via train. On the way off the train I banged my leg hard against the steps carrying 5 suitcases and bags. At my sisters I walked hard right into the hitch on her truck with my knee. Saw starts, huge bruise again. On the day I left I sprained my ankle in her driveway and fell bamm on the other leg/knee. Bruises all over. 26hr train ride due to delays. Got home feet and ankles swollen, when the swelling went down the leg that I had bruised the worst got stayed red and hot. Went to dr's. She kept asking me about my home life. She said sometimes we don't have the courage to remove ourselves from difficult situations. I kept telling her I was just really clutzy. She didn't believe me.
Today I went to get something out of my trunk and jammed a piece of wood veneer splinter completely under my nail into my finger. I didn't have the nerve to go to the dr's.

Aw, tiggeroo, that sounds like a heck of a couple of weeks! :rotfl:

But, at least your doctor notices things that may seem out of the ordinary- even if things are fine with you!

I think you need some pixiedust:

Did you walk under a ladder, or did a black cat cross your path. Sounds more like you dropped a mirror and broke it, seven years bad luck you know :confused3 ;)

Here is more pixiedust: you really need it!

:rotfl: You gave me a good laugh!! Hopefully, there isn't something in your file about it--you may get asked every time you go in from now on!!!!!!!!!

the second time i showed up ALONE in less than 3 months at the local e/r with a broken nose they realy gave me indepth questioning about spousal abuse-needless to say they were relieved to learn the guilty party was my then toddler son (who dad had decided was probably better off nowhere near me so they both stayed home while i got treatment).

haha. Did you son smack his head back into your nose. My kids used to do that to me.

That happened to me once. I bruised my sternum before and dont quite know how. Probably hurt it doing something for the sweetpea. But it just started hurting one day so I went to the doctors. He kept asking me if I was hit or kicked. I told him no. He then asked me, are you sure? Of course, I would remember if I was kicked or hit in the chest. He then went on to ask how things were with my bf, and other guys in my life. Then asked me again if i was hit or kicked. For the record, I was never hit or kicked. He never believed me.

Tiggeroo you sound like me. While on a trip to the zoo with my first grade class I bumped my leg into the armrest of a chair, then I walked into a metal table (low to the ground) and bruised my other leg. Yesterday in school I bruised my ankle when I walked into another metal object. It seems once I start I end up with several bruises. I think I need a vacation. :beach:

Sorry about that!!!! I feel your pain - literally!!! My baby boy while sitting on my lap threw his head back right into my eye and gave me a black eye - I could literally feel it swelling up instantly. Do you know how much I was questioned about DH hitting me.  "Gee - no not my DH - just my DS!"

Stay away from ladders, holes and don't play the lottery for a while!!!

When I had my physical a couple of months ago, the nurse inquired about my home life. She said they are required to ask about abuse now. I don't know if it is a WI law, or the clinic policy. :confused3

come on, you could tell us the real truth :)

Sounds like late 1999 for me and Lauri. We were just getting married. Right before, on a trip home to Atlanta, I accidently broke her nose (she knows now its not a good idea to sneak up behind me and tickle me and that I have a very hard head). Anyway, that was in September. In October she sprained her ankle tripping walking up a hill doing yardwork. In November she got really bad second degree burns on her left hand from a grease fire. Her doctor was positive that I was trying to do her in and was ready to report me. :rotfl2:

That happened to me once too when I went to the doctor! I was just there for a physical, but had several bruises on my arms and legs, I don't even really recall why, however, this was before I was married, and the doctor asked me if I was in an abusive relationship. I had to ask him to repeat himself because I didn't know if I heard him right!! I thought it was a really strange question, and at the time, I was somewhat offended, but now, I think it is great that they ask, because there are plenty of abused women/children/men out there and perhaps in the safety of a doctor's office, they would feel comfortable talking about it.

My ex and I were renting a house one time that had these doors that were really difficult to open--they'd stick and you'd have to jerk them really hard. One day, I was going out of the bedroom at the same time he was coming in. I was already yanking on the door when he gave it a huge push and it smacked me right in the face. I was wearing my glasses (I have a very strong prescription so the lenses were quite thick) and the door hit me right in the face--cutting under my eye and giving me a black eye.

Oh, yeah, and I was starting a new job the next day. They seriously thought I was an abused wife when I told them I got hit in the face with a door. :teeth: My ex had many faults but hitting me was never one of them.

I ALWAYS manage to bruise myself before going to the doctor. I'm waiting for the day when they ask.

I'm just clumbsy as well.

This is a pretty funny thread :rotfl: I once passed out at home, when I went down I apparently slammed my head into a door jam... anyhow, I had a black eye.... DH brought me to the hospital for other things OTHER than the black eye... I didn't really care about the black eye...

Do you know they grilled my poor DH about our home life & all those other questions?? My poor DH!! All he was trying to do was get me proper medical care & they thought he did it LOL.... turns out I had a virus, was a little dehydrated, you know, typical stuff that led me to pass out... poor DH LOL...

I really would be in trouble. I bruise real easy. I will bruise even when my DH and I are rough housing. Lucky for you they don't push it and send someone over to investigate. Think about it if you where a child chances are they might of.

Back in Dec. Dh fell off the ladder while hanging Christmas lights. He fell about 15ft to the asphalt driveway. He broke his leg, shoulder, wrist and punctured a long. In the emergency room they asked him how his home life was, I guess they thought maybe I pushed him :lmao: By the way, it was not funny at the time :guilty:

Both my DH and I have been asked by different Dr's if our home enviroment was abusive.
My DH was on a soft ball team and was warming up before a double header. A teammate threw a ball to him and he missed catching it. The ball hit him right in the eye instead. SO after the game I convinced him that it was so swollen and black and blue that we should at least take him in to have it looked at. Now I admit it did look like someone punched him. So when we got there and the nurse started the intake process she asked him over and over while looking at me how this had happened and if anyone had hurt him at home. I felt like asking if she would like me to step outside the room for a little bit so they could talk.

After I had given birth to my son and was getting ready to leave for home the nurse said that there was some things she needed to talk to me about when we were alone. Then she asked if I was being treated well at home, if anyone hit me ect. I had no bruises or anything that would lead her to think that, nor has that ever happened to me personally. All I can conclude is that at least at this hospital everyone is asked and maybe someone will actually come forward and get some help if they need it.
We have had some good laughs about it though.

Actually that's what scares me. My 6 year old, unfortunately for me, got my bruise easily gene. You look at him wrong and he bruises. Add to that he has delayed motor skills and he is literally the klutzy kid that will walk into walls, doors, bang his legs on things that are right in front of him, etc... His legs are always bruised and 99.9% of the time we have no clue where the bruise came from. It's to the point of I'm paranoid all someone will see is bruises and assume the worst. He get OT and so that's addressed but geez. *I* still get bruises left & right from minor stuff -- usually stuff I have no clue how I got it, I just look and go "oh another bruise, wonder how I got that one".

However, what's really funny is that if he does have a hard fall and so we KNOW there will be a bruise or expect one, he doesn't get one. Go figure. :confused3 He fell down HARD in gym class when they had roller skating. The gym teacher after school told me, he might end up with a bruise since he took a hard fall. He didn't.
