Hey everyone,
I'm so shaken up right now. My standard poodle, Phoebe, was bugging me so I knew it was time for her to do her business. My mom was on the phone so I took her out the side door like I always do. I got to the top of my driveway when I see the german shepherds (2 of them) and then they saw me and phoebe so I ran to get us both inside and they got us before we could get in. I opened the door and all 3 dogs were coming in and I was trying to pull them out while getting phoebe in and thats when one got my finger and my dog. They got her in like 2 other spots too. So anyway I scream bloody murder for my mom and she comes out and helps me and finally the owner gets the dogs away from us. A couple minutes later there is a knock on the door - it's the woman holding her crying daughter who has blood on her face and she says - "I just wanted you to see my daughter's face before i take her to the hospital." What the heck is she talking about? It's not my fault - apparently she flew out of the stroller at some point during this whole debacle and hit her head. And for the record, these dogs are not hers and they're not socialized. She's housesitting and they never ever ever go out for walks - they just go in the backyard. She was an idiot for even attempting to take all 3 of them outside. So anyway, I called my vet who said to try and clean her wounds and to call in the am for an appt. My finger hurts like a ton and it's really swollen, but it didn't break the skin. So because of the comment the woman made, we called the police (of whom my mom works for) and filed a report just in case she turns this thing around on us. I'm still so wound up. I know this sounds dumb, but I turned into another person. I was ready to let this dog eat my hand before it got my baby. I don't want to compare this to parents and their children but I definitely got a little more insight into what parents mean when they say they will do anything to protect their children. I will keep you updated after we see my vet tomorrow. Send poodle pixie dust please!

My Poodle Pixie Dust is coming your way! I'm so sorry to hear about Phoebe! Please keep us updated. I have a poodle, too, and know how you feel. pixiedust:

That is terrible. yes keep us updated. That must of been such a scare for you and Phoebe.

Good thing you called to file an official report-just in case... get well Phoebe!

Poodle pixie dust from 4-month old standard poodle Darci!

It was best that you made that police report. You and Pheobe are innocent in this matter. I hope that everyone, especially the baby, is OK.

Sounds like you did everything right - I hope nothing becomes of it (in that the other person will accuse you of wrongdoing).

I hope your finger feels better soon AND your poodle gets better. You are not the only one who would stick themself out there to protect their dogs ;)

Oh, thank goodness you & your poor dog were not horribly injured!
I can't imagine how scary that whole incident must have been for you & your poodle! :grouphug:

Maybe that woman was just speaking out of great fear & upset, too.
Yes, 2 rather unfamiliar dogs & a stroller in a neighborhood you might be unaccustomed to, was very nearly a recipe for heartbreak!

If the police did not, Please, please, please take pictures of your finger & your dog's wounds, right now! Get yourself to a Dr & have him check out your finger, too. even if it is 'nothing'.

Your Mom was so smart to file the report. I bet seeing her daughter in such a row scared your Mom something fierce, also!

You are certainly brave, too! :thumbsup2

Both of you get well, :wizard: & keep us posted

Jean

Were any of these dogs on leashes?

Awwww, I hope Phoebe and you are okay. Keep us posted.

I'm wondering if the lady wanted you to see her daughter - maybe she just needed you as a witness to what the dogs did to her daughter so she can file a complaint against the owner of the dogs. :confused3

So sorry to hear this happened to your dog. Your right, the lady wasn't too smart to try to handle two big dogs and her baby.

I see a woman in my neighborhood on a regular basis. She has her baby in a stroller. She has two dogs she walks at the same time by attaching their leashes to the stroller. One of the dogs is fairly small. The other is a big rottweiler. Heaven forbid that big dog see something and take off. It scares me every time I see it!

Well thats what I was thinking too maybe, but the dogs didn't do it. She fell out of her stroller at some point when the dogs came after me and Phoebe.

I know for a fact that the first dog that came to us was not wearing a leash. He could have broken it off - like I said they are never ever walked on a leash - but he most definitely did not have one on. The other dog could have but again not sure about her. We do have leash laws and I can't even imagine her even attempting to walk these dogs off a leash. Truthfully, I don't blame the dogs as much as I blame the woman. She was asking for it IMO. I'm not pressing charges or anything but we filed the police report just in case she turns around and tries to say that something was our fault.

And thanks for all the poodle dust! She had her snack and has played some ball so I think she will make a full recovery. Still going to Vet tomorrow though.

I once had two german shepards attack me while I was riding my bike-knocked it over & bent the axel , so I had to push the bike home. I was pregnant at the time and very upset.(((Hugs to you and your puppy))

OMG, that is the scariest (and stupidest!!!) thing I have ever heard! What a recipe for disaster. :sad2:

Yikes. Maybe I should hide my signature right now  but I did want to offer my support and say I hope you, your poodle, and the baby are feeling better soon. :grouphug:

Lots of Poodle Pixie Dust coming from Reilly, Suzy and Hailey with a side order of Tibbie dust from Tinker ;) I'm glad it didn't end up worse that it did. That is always our worse fear when you see stray dogs running loose. We are at the point now where we don't take a walk with the dogs unless we have some type of big stick to protect our dogs.

DW Lauri was in the front yard with one of our poodles (who has since past but not for this incident). Anyway the Collie that lived behind us that spent it's life on the end of a 6 ft chain in dirt (another sad story but I digress) got loose and ran into our yard. It came snarling for our dog, a 10 pound mini poodle, and Lauri quickly dropped herself on our dog and curled over it in a fetal position while the Collie lunged and bit at her. :sad2: Luckily a neighbor was outside and scared the Collie away before Lauri or our dog were seriously hurt.

Sad thing is, Lauri always treated that Collie so nicely - more so than it's owners. The dog would be out there with no water.. she would hop the fence and give it water. Whenever she took the dogs out she would bring him a cookie and talk to him so he had human companionship. Sad. :sad2:

Not so surprisingly, several years later these same neighbors started breeding pit bulls in the backyard and fighting them. They had one female that stayed pregnant and several males the injected daily (steriods?) and took away on the weekends only to return them bloody and with broken limbs. :sad2: The female pit wanted out of that situation so bad she would try to jump our fence with a short chain around her neck and hang herself. Many nights we went out there and Lauri (who has experience working with aggressive dogs) would have to lift this dog back over the fence to save it because they would never answer their door. Thanks to Lauri, a local news station, and the county police -these people were busted. Not sure whatever happened to the dogs though. :(

That has got to be one of the saddest things I think I have heard all day.
