As one who had to express dog's anal glands - definitely leave the room! I worked for a groomer and it was my job (lucky me ) who had the chore of expressing the anal glands of each and every dog we groomed each day. An average of eight dogs a day times five work days a week = too many glands expressed!

Not only does it smell nasty but you don't want it on you!
