My Dog Has A Sore On His Foot

It started last Wednesday or Thursday as a small pimple which he licked. It popped. Then it disappeared, but he keeps licking the spot, so much that he actually licked some of the hair off!!! Then we shaved it so air would get at it and it would dry up and I took him to the vet. She gave him an antibiotic, thinking that if it was inflamed/slightly infected that it might be itching or tingling which was making him continue to lick it. He's had 5 doses of the antibiotic, and he's still trying to get at it!!!! We've tried the Bitter Break spray...he licks it right off!!!!! When I put peroxide on it, that seems to deter him for a while...maybe it "calms down" the itchy feeling????...but then he's back to licking it again. I feel bad because I have to keep yelling at him. I tried wrapping it with a dressing that doesn't stick to his fur, but he pulled that off. I tried putting a baby sock on that foot, but he pulled that off too!!!! (That was actually pretty funny to watch!! )

I'm at my wits end. The vet doesn't want to put one of those collars on him, because she seen more dogs get injured when wearing the collar, by falling down the stairs or walking into something and the collar digs into their neck and cuts them.

Short of taking off the next 2 weeks from work to watch the dog 24/7, any suggestions?????

Use the E-collar, just taking it off if he has to go outside or down stairs. I've been through several eye surgeries with mine, the collar is not a big deal and they get used to it.

What kind of dog is it? How much does he weigh? If he's at least 15#, give him a benedryl tonight so he can sleep. Poor baby.
