He's been hurting for about a month and the vet figured it out today after doing x-rays of his neck (we had thought the pain was in his shoulder initially). They are going to treat him with prednisone but if that doesn't work, he will need surgery. Anyone have any experience with this in your dog? Just wondering what to expect.
Thanks

What type of dog is he and how old is he? I hope the steroids work for him. I would consider getting a second opinion from a specialist at a veterinary teaching hospital if I were you. Best of luck.

He's a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and he's 7 yrs. old

no advice, just wanted to say I hope your doggy feels better soon! :dog:

Our Lhasa Apso slipped her disc several years ago and has aggrevated it twice since. She has been treated successfully with regular old Johnson's baby aspirin but she only weighs 8 lbs. When it gets inflammed ( hers is down the middle of her back ) we have to bring her up the stairs and don't allow her to jump on the chairs, beds, etc but she feels better after a few days. Basically doggie bed rest and she has developed calcium deposits but no one has ever suggested surgery. I would think that was the last thing they would try.

Good Luck, its so hard when they are sick because like babies, they can't communicate.

My little Yorkie had this. His was so bad that he could not walk and the vet told us he should probably be put down. I took him to another vet for a second opinion and my baby was better in a couple of weeks. The other vet was trained in (now don't laugh!) (I'm serious) chiropractic for animals. Honest. I am not into natural healing or even chiropractic for humans, but I must admit that he was a miracle worker for my baby. He used this little metal thing to "adjust" my pup's back and fixed him. We were also on some kind of medication, but I can't remember what. Before surgery, I'd try to find a vet trained in this sort of thing. If you are interested, I bet our vet could even recommend someone in your area. Hope your pup is up and around soon.
